Diagnostic Performance of Ultrasonography for Evaluation of Osteoarthritis of Ankle Joint: Comparison With Radiography, Cone-Beam CT, and Symptoms.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the diagnostic performance of ultrasonography (US) for evaluation of the ankle joint osteoarthritic (OA) changes. Cone-beam computed tomography (CT) was used as the gold standard and US performance was compared with conventional radiography (CR). As a secondary aim, associations between the imaging findings and ankle symptoms were assessed. METHODS: US was performed to 51 patients with ankle OA. Every patient had prior ankle CR and underwent cone-beam CT during the same day as US examination. On US, effusion/synovitis, osteophytes, talar cartilage damage, and tenosyno

Ultrasonography of Shoulder in Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Reliability Exercise Using Consensual Definitions among Maghrebian Rheumatologists.

The shoulder may be affected in a large portion of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) worldwide. However, this joint does not receive the attention required during follow-up. Indeed, although numerous clinical tests for diagnosis of a painful shoulder are available, differentiating articular from peri-articular lesions may be difficult in daily practice. Fortunately, the precise diagnosis of shoulder pain in RA has benefited from a reliable imaging modality used to detect its exact origin-ultrasonography (US). This study was aimed at assessing the intra- and inter-observer reliability of

Large-scale genetic investigation reveals genetic liability to multiple complex traits influencing a higher risk of ADHD.

Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a complex psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorder that develops during childhood and spans into adulthood. ADHD's aetiology is complex, and evidence about its cause and risk factors is limited. We leveraged genetic data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and performed latent causal variable analyses using a hypothesis-free approach to infer causal associations between 1387 complex traits and ADHD. We identified 37 inferred potential causal associations with ADHD risk. Our results reveal that genetic variants associated with iron d

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Tenosynovitis at the Metatarsophalangeal Joints: An Anatomic and MRI Study of the Forefoot Tendon Sheaths.

Background Although tenosynovitis in the hands is associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), it is unknown whether tenosynovitis of the forefoot is associated with RA. Purpose To determine the anatomy of tendon sheaths of the forefoot and the relationship between MRI-detected tenosynovitis at metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joints and RA. Materials and Methods Fourteen forefeet of donated bodies were examined at flexor tendons and extensor tendons for the presence and course of tendon sheaths. In the prospective study between June 2013 and March 2016, newly presenting patients with RA, patients with

Use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Identify Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor-Induced Inflammatory Arthritis.

IMPORTANCE: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have transformed the treatment paradigm for an ever-increasing number of cancers. However, their use has also led to the emergence of immune-related adverse events, such as ICI-induced inflammatory arthritis. A reproducible, reliable, and accessible modality is needed to assess and distinguish early ICI-induced inflammatory arthritis and help in management. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of joints may be helpful for early diagnosis, guiding therapeutic decision-making, and identifying patients at high risk for erosive disease. OBJECTIVE: To as

An unusual case of remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema: Case report and literature review.

Remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema is a rare but well-recognized clinical entity that is easily overlooked due to lack of clinical vigilance. It is classically described as an acute onset of symmetrical tenosynovitis of both upper and lower extremities with pitting edema, mostly noted in elderly population. Young patients with other rheumatological diseases and unilateral involvement had also been reported, but symmetrical remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema in a young patient is a rare observation. We hereby report a case of a remitting

In vitro Antagonistic Activity of Endophytic Fungi Isolated from Shirazi Thyme (Zataria multiflora Boiss.) against Monosporascus cannonballus.

Transthoracic and transesophageal examinations should be considered as mutually complementary. Transesophageal echocardiography is performed in cases of a justified need to visualize structures that are poorly visible or invisible on transthoracic echocardiogram. Primary indications for transesophageal echocardiography include an assessment of cardiac source of embolism, suspected endocarditis, suspected prosthetic valve dysfunction, an assessment of thoracic aorta and other vessels, an assessment prior to valvular repairs and closures of septal defects, intraoperative monitoring of cardiac or

Sonographic findings from inflammatory arthritis due to antisynthetase syndrome.

Inflammatory arthritis is a common feature of antisynthetase syndrome. Ultrasonography is able to characterize important features of bone and tendon pathology but has not been evaluated in this setting. We review the sonographic findings in a series of patients with antisynthetase syndrome and inflammatory arthritis. A retrospective chart review was performed of patients with antisynthetase syndrome-associated inflammatory arthritis who had undergone ultrasound imaging for joint pathology. Seventeen sonographic assessments of eight patients were included. Synovial hypertrophy was seen in all e

Arthritis risk with immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for cancer.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review summarizes the current evidence on inflammatory arthritis following cancer treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), and the effects of these therapies in patients with preexisting autoimmune arthritis. RECENT FINDINGS: As the use of ICI for cancer therapy continues to expand, a myriad of immune-related adverse events (irAE) caused by these therapies are being recognized. Arthritis has been increasingly reported as a de novo irAE, presenting sometimes as a well defined disorder, such as rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis, and in other occasions

Serum YKL-40 and IL-6 levels correlate with ultrasound findings of articular and periarticular involvement in patients with systemic sclerosis.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare connective tissue disease characterized by vascular, immune and fibrotic abnormalities in the skin and in many internal organs. New biomarkers with predictive value associated with target organ involvement are needed. The up-regulation of IL-6 production is associated with the disease activity and in the development of cardiopulmonary manifestations in SSc patients. The protein YKL-40 is a promising and intensively investigated biomarker related to inflammatory and tumor diseases. The objective of the study was to investigate how serum levels of YKL-40 and IL

The value of MRI examination on bilateral hands including proximal interphalangeal joints for disease assessment in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis: a cross-sectional cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Bilateral hands including proximal interphalangeal joints (PIPJs) are recommended on physical, X-ray radiographic, or ultrasonographic examination by clinical guidelines of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but MRI still tends to examine unilateral wrists and/or MCPJs. We aimed to demonstrate the advantages of MRI examination on bilateral hands including PIPJs for disease assessment in early RA patients. METHODS: Active early RA patients received 3.0T whole-body MRI examination with contrast-enhanced imaging on bilateral wrists, MCPJs, and PIPJs. MRI features were scored referring to the
