HSV-2 infection and HPV incidence, persistence, and precancerous lesions in a cohort of HPV-vaccinated women living with HIV.

BACKGROUND: Several co-factors for HPV oncogenesis have been proposed, including co-infection with HSV-2. We assessed the relationship between HSV-2 infection and HPV-related outcomes in quadrivalent HPV-vaccinated (qHPV) women living with HIV (WLWH). METHODS: In this multi-site study of immunogenicity and efficacy of the qHPV vaccine in WLWH, visits took place at months -3, 0, 2, 6, 12, 18, 24, and annually thereafter. Participants provided clinical data and cervico-vaginal swabs for HPV DNA detection; baseline serum was tested for HSV-2 type-specific antibodies. We used non-parametric stati

Associations of ABO and Rhesus D blood groups with phenome-wide disease incidence: A 41-year retrospective cohort study of 482,914 patients.

BACKGROUND: Whether natural selection may have attributed to the observed blood group frequency differences between populations remains debatable. The ABO system has been associated with several diseases and recently also with susceptibility to COVID-19 infection. Associative studies of the RhD system and diseases are sparser. A large disease-wide risk analysis may further elucidate the relationship between the ABO/RhD blood groups and disease incidence. METHODS: We performed a systematic log-linear quasi-Poisson regression analysis of the ABO/RhD blood groups across 1,312 phecode diagnoses.

Clinicopathologic and Molecular Characteristics of Epstein-Barr Virus-Associated Smooth Muscle Tumor Compared With Those of Leiomyoma and Leiomyosarcoma.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated smooth muscle tumors (EBV-SMTs) are rare smooth muscle neoplasms exclusively associated with immunosuppression, such as in patients with HIV/AIDS, posttransplant, and congenital immunodeficiency. However, the genomic landscape of EBV-SMTs is poorly understood. Leiomyosarcomas harbor genomic instability and multiple recurrent DNA copy number alterations, whereas leiomyomas lack such changes. Thus, this study aimed to fill this knowledge gap by characterizing copy number alterations in EBV-SMTs and correlating this information with clinicopathologic characteri

Human Papillomavirus-Associated Anal Cancer Incidence and Burden Among US Men, According to Sexual Orientation, Human Immunodeficiency Virus Status, and Age.

BACKGROUND: Men who have sex with men (MSM) without HIV are known to be at elevated relative risk for Human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated anal cancer in comparison to men who have sex with women (MSW), but are poorly characterized in terms of anal cancer incidence due to absence of reporting of sexual behavior/identity at a population-level. METHODS: By combining age-specific statistics from multiple data sources (anal cancer incidence among all males; anal cancer incidence among MSM and MSW with HIV; population size of men with HIV by sexual orientation), we developed a mathematical model

Characterization of HPV subtypes in invasive cervical cancer in Botswana patients using a pan-pathogen microarray technology.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) plays a significant role in the development of cervical cancers in the setting of co-infection with HIV. Botswana has a high prevalence of HIV and cervical cancer. In this study, we investigated the distribution of HPV subtypes in cervical cancer biopsy samples from patients in Botswana using a highly sensitive pan-pathogen microarray technology, PathoChip, to detect both high- (HR-HPV) and low-risk HPV (LR-HPV) subtypes in women living with HIV (WLWH) and women living without HIV. We analyzed samples from 168 patients, of which 73% (n = 123) were WLWH with a median

Camrelizumab as adjuvant therapy in urothelial carcinomas after radical surgery in people living with HIV.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are effective strategies for multiple cancers and may be safe in people living with HIV (PLWH). Camrelizumab is a monoclonal antibody against PD-1 activating T cells against tumor cells. Evidence of camrelizumab's safety and activity in PLWH with urothelial carcinoma (UC) is lacking. Here, findings in a cohort of people living with HIV with advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma are presented. METHODS: Patients who had locally advanced or metastatic disease after radical surgery were given camrelizumab (200 mg intravenously every 3 weeks).
