Elbow pain arises from diverse tendinous, ligamentous, neural, and bursal disorders involving the lateral, medial, anterior, and posterior compartments. Because clinical symptoms frequently overlap - such as epicondylitis, distal biceps tendon injury, cubital tunnel syndrome, and olecranon bursitis - precise imaging is essential for accurate diagnosis and targeted management. Ultrasonography has become a first-line modality for elbow evaluation due to its high-resolution visualization, dynamic capability, and real-time interventional guidance. This article presents the Ultrasound Musculoskelet

INTRODUCTION: Chronic inflammatory conditions have previously been shown to lead to the development of cancer in humans. Olecranon bursitis (OB) has not yet been explicitly correlated to the development of squamous cell carcinoma and to our knowledge, this is the first case report documenting this possible association.
CASE REPORT: A 70-year-old male with a 12-year history of non-healing wounds, smoking, alcohol use, gout, and intermittent OB presented to the orthopedic clinic with acutely worsening left elbow pain, fever, chills, and fatigue. He was previously treated with incision and drain

Olecranon bursitis is a common clinical condition that is usually traumatic, inflammatory, or bacterial in origin. Fungal involvement of the olecranon bursa is exceedingly rare and may present a diagnostic challenge because of its indolent course and nonspecific clinical and radiological features. A 63-year-old female with diabetes mellitus presented with a gradually progressive, painless swelling over the posterior aspect of the left elbow of 1 year duration. Ultrasonography revealed a thick-walled cystic lesion with internal echoes and septations overlying the olecranon process, while plain

A 43-year-old male presented to the emergency department due to progressive weakness of the left hand and wrist following blunt trauma to the elbow around three weeks prior to evaluation. He was initially evaluated at the time of injury with radiographs of the elbow and forearm, which were reported to be normal. Due to worsening weakness, he sought care at additional emergency departments and with a neurologist who performed a CT, repeat radiographs, and eventually an MRI of the elbow, all of which revealed no acute findings. At our facility, point-of-care ultrasound evaluation of the elbow de

Elbow wounds secondary to septic olecranon bursitis are a challenging problem to treat. Neurotized fasciocutaneous free anterolateral thigh (ALT) flaps provide a reliable soft tissue coverage option with the opportunity to provide protective sensation to a common pressure point. Free flaps can provide coverage when alternative options lower on the reconstructive ladder are unavailable. A 69-year-old man with rheumatoid arthritis presented with septic olecranon bursitis requiring serial debridement resulting in significant soft tissue loss and bone exposure. A free ALT, with fascial tacking sut

INTRODUCTION: Primary Cutaneous Aspergillosis (PCA) is a rare localized fungal infection resulting from direct skin inoculation of Aspergillus species, often affecting immunocompetent indi-viduals following minor trauma. Unlike systemic forms, which are predominant in immunocompro-mised hosts, PCA frequently mimics benign subcutaneous lesions, leading to diagnostic delays and mismanagement.</p> Case presentation: A total of 3 cases of adult males (aged 55-70 years) were reported: two immuno-competent and one with controlled type 2 diabetes. Lesions presented as painless, mobile subcutane-ous s

Claw lesions in dairy cattle pose a significant risk to dairy farmers worldwide in terms of animal welfare concerns and economic profitability. However, the use of different data sources, classification systems, and definitions of reference groups limits the comparison across herds and decreases the usability of the recordings for phenotypic and genetic analyses. In South Africa, information on claw lesions is not routinely collected by dairy farmers and data are limited to hoof trimmers recording lesions during preventative trimming or as needed by producers. Records of the most common claw l

An acellular dermal matrix is a biological graft composed of several components present in the dermis such as collagen fibers, elastin, fibronectin, and hyaluronic acid that serve as support for cellular repopulation that will gradually become vascularized. This provides mechanical resistance and improves suture retention. With this article we aim to present 2 cases, and our technique, in which a rupture of the distal triceps tendon occurred, patients presented late due to usual insurance authorization delays, and then required delayed surgical repair by means of dermal acellular matrix grafti

Non-tuberculous mycobacteria are a rare cause of olecranon bursitis. We present a case of a 65-year-old man with history of chronic olecranon bursitis status post bursectomy two years prior, presented with two weeks of right elbow swelling but no pain or redness. On exam, bursa was enlarged with mild warmth present but no concern for elbow joint involvement. The bursa was aspirated, fluid analysis revealed leukocytosis with monosodium urate crystals consistent with gout. Ten days later, the mycobacterial cultures grew Mycobacterium kansasii. Two weeks later, on repeat aspiration of right elbow

BACKGROUND: Elbow disorders are a common cause of pain and functional impairment in the adult population, yet there is a lack of comprehensive epidemiological studies describing their distribution. This study aims to fill this gap by analyzing the epidemiology of elbow complaints in a specialized orthopedic clinic.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the prevalence, age distribution, and sex-related differences of the most common elbow disorders in an outpatient orthopedic setting.
METHODS: A single-center cross-sectional study of medical records from patients treated between 2015 and 2024. Adults of both

A 63-year-old female presented with acute, atraumatic posterior elbow pain. She was found to have infectious olecranon bursitis with resistant bacteria. Her treatment was complicated by a penicillin allergy, necessitating the use of linezolid, which was further complicated by the rare black hairy tongue (BHT) side effect of linezolid. Despite the visible discoloration and associated pain from BHT, the patient continued linezolid to treat her bursal infection. She recovered from the bursitis and linezolid side effects after completion, supporting that immediate withdrawal is not necessary for t

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis is one of the deadliest diseases worldwide, with an estimated incidence of more than 10 million new cases annually. As part of bone and joint tuberculosis (5-6% of all extrapulmonary tuberculosis cases), elbow tuberculosis is a rare manifestation-especially in the Western world-and is associated with nonspecific symptoms such as swelling, redness, and painful limitation of motion. This often leads to initial misdiagnoses, such as septic arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, resulting in a significant delay in diagnosis and treatment.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 27-year-old male

PURPOSE: To determine the outcomes of endoscopic olecranon bursectomy for the treatment of recalcitrant olecranon bursitis in one surgeon's practice.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on all patients who underwent an endoscopic olecranon bursectomy for the treatment of recalcitrant olecranon bursitis between January 2018 and May 2021 at one surgeon's practice. Demographic variables as well as causes for olecranon bursitis such as aseptic, septic, and gouty tophi were recorded. In addition, any complications such as infection, recurrence, wound failure, or hospitalizations were d

The olecranon bursa is a pocket-like structure located at the posterior aspect of the elbow that is responsible for the smooth movement of the surrounding tissues. Frequently, it is the source of elbow pain due to an inflammation which may be caused by local injury or penetration of bacteria through the skin. This can lead to an initial acute and possibly a late chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation may originate from systemic diseases such as gout and rheumatoid arthritis as well. The treatment of olecranon bursitis may be conservative (non-surgical) or surgical. Recently, there is more

BACKGROUND: Olecranon bursitis can be difficult to treat, resulting in persistent or recurrent symptoms. Bursectomy is a frequently applied treatment option for refractory cases but has high complication rates. This is the first in vivo study to investigate the safety and efficacy of hydrothermal ablation, a new treatment modality for recurrent or chronic olecranon bursitis that aims to cause thermal obliteration of the bursal lining by irrigation with heated saline.
METHODS: First, a pilot animal trial was set up to determine a safe irrigation temperature window. Second, in a human trial the

Non-septic olecranon bursitis (NSOB) is the inflammation of the olecranon bursa, which is usually self-limiting with aseptic clinical manifestations. NSOB can be idiopathic or secondary to repetitive trauma or rheumatological conditions. Septic olecranon bursitis (SOB) is usually caused by bacterial skin colonisers, such as staphylococci and streptococci, and patients tend to present with systemic symptoms requiring medical and/or surgical interventions. Herein we present a case of disseminated cryptococcal infection stemming from bilateral septic olecranon bursitis in a previously healthy imm
