BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is one of the primary causes of shoulder girdle dysfunction, characterized by pain and restricted mobility in the glenohumeral joint. There is no consensus concerning treatment, with various clinical and surgical approaches proposed. The purpose of this paper is to compare the results of AC treatment in patients who underwent suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) associated with physiotherapy (PT) and those who only underwent physiotherapy.
METHODS: Patients diagnosed with AC, presenting with spontaneous shoulder pain and progressively restricted glenohumeral m

Frozen shoulder (FS) is a common disorder characterized by spontaneous onset of shoulder pain accompanied by progressive loss of range-of-motions. The cause of FS is still unclear, and radical therapy has not been established. With the final aim of preventing or curing FS at an earlier stage, we reviewed the pathological and biological features of this disease. Many studies indicate that the main pathology of FS is inflammation initially and fibrosis later. There are inflammatory cytokines, immune cells, fibrotic growth factors, and type-III collagen in the synovium and the joint capsule. The

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to validate slaughterhouse indicators collected during meat inspection as an alternative to on-farm animal welfare indicators. For this purpose, the assessments of twelve on-farm and seven slaughterhouse indicators of 628 pigs from three different farms were combined into three indices, differentiated between on-farm and slaughterhouse: (1) limb health, (2) other organ health, and (3) respiratory health. At first, an assessment at animal-level using agreement parameters was carried out to ascertain whether the same welfare or health issues were identified on-farm a

BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is a disease of the glenohumeral joint that is characterized by pain and both passive and active global stiffness with a slow and insidious onset. The disease can occur spontaneously (primary AC) or it can be secondary to other comorbidities, surgery, or trauma, such as fracture or dislocation. Multiple treatment approaches have been suggested: intra-articular steroid injection, physical therapy, manipulation under total anesthesia, and arthroscopic or open surgery. Shoulder manipulation under anesthesia is usually proposed to patients that suffer from seve

BACKGROUND: Although prior observational studies indicate an association between cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and frozen shoulder (FS), the potential causal relationship between them remains uncertain. This study aims to explore the genetic causal relationship between CVDs and FS using Mendelian randomization (MR).
METHODS: Genetic variations closely associated with FS were obtained from the FinnGen Consortium. Summary data for CVD, including atrial fibrillation (AF), coronary artery disease (CAD), heart failure (HF), myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and ischemic stroke (IS), were source

Frozen shoulder is a spontaneously self-resolving chronic inflammatory fibrotic human disease, which distinguishes the condition from most fibrotic diseases that are progressive and irreversible. Using single-cell analysis, we identify pro-inflammatory MERTKlowCD48+ macrophages and MERTK + LYVE1 + MRC1+ macrophages enriched for negative regulators of inflammation which co-exist in frozen shoulder capsule tissues. Micro-cultures of patient-derived cells identify integrin-mediated cell-matrix interactions between MERTK+ macrophages and pro-resolving DKK3+ and POSTN+ fibroblasts, suggesting that

The Frozen Shoulder is a frequently encountered pathology in clinical practice. This condition often coexists with various comorbidities and is characterized by severe pain and a significantly restricted motion of the affected shoulder. A limited passive external rotation with the arm in adduction, with no signs of any other pathology that could explain the finding, such as shoulder osteoarthritis or an undetected posterior dislocation, is pathognomonic. The course of the disease typically spans over one to two years and is usually self-limiting. In the vast majority of cases, this condition c

Multiple studies have indicated a potential correlation between immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) and Frozen shoulder (FS). To explore the genetic causal relationship between IMIDs and FS using 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data for FS were obtained from Green's study, while data for 10 IMIDs were sourced from the FinnGen Consortium. The MR analysis was performed using inverse variance weighting, MR Egger, and weighted median methods. IVW, as the primary MR analysis technique, was complemented with other sensitivity ana

OBJECTIVE: Frozen shoulder (FS) is a painful and debilitating condition affecting the shoulder joint. When patients fail to improve after conservative treatments, operative treatments including arthroscopic capsular release (ACR) and manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) are recommended. However, the comparison between these two interventions remains controversial. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of ACR and MUA for refractory FS.
METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analyses (PRISM

The reconstruction of past life based on archaeozoology is a challenging domain that offers a range of valuable details concerning former human and animal populations. Additionally, the ancient era is a source of information for human and veterinary medicine, as well as for other biological sciences. This report highlights a pathological lesion identified during the investigation of a horse skeleton from a pit dated La Tène in Alba County (Romania). The left scapula with lesions was collected from the skeleton of a buried 7-8-year-old male horse. The aforementioned bone underwent gross, radiol

OBJECTIVES: Shoulder pain secondary to various aetiologies is a common musculoskeletal complaint worldwide, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the most accurate imaging method for evaluating shoulder pain in all age groups. While the patterns of shoulder MRI abnormalities in various demographics have been reported, data on sub-Sahara African populations are still sparse. This study aims to describe the imaging features and spectrum of shoulder joint pathologies on MRI in adult Nigerians.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a retrospective review of the shoulder MRI of 100 adult Nigerians (wi

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been warning about the psychiatric disorders associated with montelukast (MTK) for years. To study the characteristics of the presence of MTK-associated adverse events (AEs), we obtained data from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System database and used a case (MTK) vs. non-case (all other drugs) analysis to investigate the safety signals in a disproportionality study. 27,507 reported AEs from January 2004 to December 2022 were analyzed. Disproportionality analysis shows that psychiatric, respiratory, thoracic, and mediastinal disorders
