Fibro-adhesive Bursitis: A Novel Sonographic Finding in Adhesive Capsulitis Patients and a Proposal of Management.

INTRODUCTION: Adhesive capsulitis, also known as "frozen shoulder," is a debilitating shoulder condition increasingly linked to fibroadhesive bursitis, particularly after COVID-19 and related vaccinations. There is no definitive gold standard for its treatment, the primary therapeutic objectives of which are the reduction of pain and the restoration of shoulder range of motion. The aim of our study was to analyze treatment outcomes based on quantitative measures of shoulder function and symptom relief. METHOD: Conducted between January 2022 and April 2023, the research involved 45 patients in

Conservative Treatment of an Isolated Greater Tuberosity Fracture With Dislocation: Management of Post-Traumatic Subacromial Impingement Syndrome and a Mini-Review of the Literature.

This case report evaluates the effectiveness of conservative treatment for an isolated greater tuberosity fracture-dislocation, detailing the treatment process and addressing post-traumatic subacromial impingement syndrome with a mini-review of the literature. A 26-year-old male fell from a height, resulting in a self-reduced dislocated shoulder. Examination revealed extensive ecchymosis, pain, and limited motion in the right shoulder. Radiological assessments showed an isolated greater tuberosity fracture, partial tears of the supraspinatus and subscapularis muscles, a suspected ALPSA lesion,

Pathological formation of subcoracoid bursa effusion on magnetic resonance imaging studies.

BACKGROUND: The subcoracoid space includes the subcoracoid bursa (SCB) and subscapular bursa (SSB). We aimed to clarify the relationship between the presence or amount of SCB effusion and other structures around the SCB on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to discuss the pathological formation of SCB effusion. METHODS: Medical records and MR images of patients who had undergone MRI examinations for shoulder pain were retrospectively reviewed. The presence or absence of SCB, SSB, and subacromial-subdeltoid bursa (SASDB) effusion was evaluated. If SCB effusion was present, the largest diamet

Editorial Commentary: Iliotibial Band Autograft Is a Safe and Effective Technique for Hip Labral Reconstruction.

Hip labral reconstruction is indicated for hypoplastic, ossified, or irreparable labral tears in the primary and revision settings. Arthroscopic reconstruction for insufficient labral tissue requires advanced surgical techniques to restore hip biomechanics and re-establish the suction seal. With the growing number of arthroscopic hip procedures being performed, this is an increasingly familiar scenario. In our experience, the iliotibial band (ITB) autograft provides a safe and effective technique for labral reconstruction at 10-year clinical follow-up. Although the harvest requires an addition

Multiple Joint Replacements for Progressive Pseudorheumatoid Dysplasia: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Greater trochanteric pain syndrome is a common incapacitating hip condition characterized by chronic lateral hip pain. This condition includes a range of pathologies ranging from trochanteric bursitis, hip abductor pathology involving the gluteus medius and minimum, external coxa saltans (snapping hip syndrome), or combinations of these. Hip abductor tendon tears have gained recognition as a main contributor to this condition. This pathology is often misdiagnosed and left untreated because of the frequency of partial-thickness undersurface tears. Once this challenging diagnosis i

Ketorolac Injections for Musculoskeletal Conditions: A Narrative Review.

Musculoskeletal conditions of the upper and lower extremities are commonly treated with corticosteroid injections. Ketorolac, a parenteral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, represents an alternative injectant for common shoulder, hip, and knee conditions. A review of the current literature was conducted on the efficacy of ketorolac injection in musculoskeletal diseases. Several studies support the use and efficacy of ketorolac injection in subacromial bursitis, adhesive capsulitis, and hip and knee osteoarthritis. Given the systemic effects of glucocorticoid injections, ketorolac may be a s

Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome and the Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections: A Systematic Review.

Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) is one of the most prevalent causes of lateral hip pain. The incidence rate is as high as 1.8 patients per 1000 annually, with females predominantly affected. We compared and analysed the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections in treating GTPS. Literature search was carried out on PubMed, Embase and Cochrane by two independent reviewers using the terms: 'Greater Trochanteric Pain syndrome' and 'Platelet-rich plasma'. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed, and the Cochran

Massive Bilateral Haemorrhagic Prepatellar Bursitis: A Case Report.

Prepatellar bursitis is a common cause of anterior knee pain. We present an unusual case of massive bilateral traumatic haemorrhagic prepatellar bursitis managed with surgical excision and describe our operative findings. The patient presented with large bilateral knee swellings which had been present for six years following a fall onto both knees. The swellings interfered with his ability to wear trousers and lean up against ladders. Excision of the prepatellar swellings was performed sequentially. A thick-walled, well-demarcated cyst was excised from each knee, which was dissected from the s

Arthro-distension with early and intensive mobilization for shoulder adhesive capsulitis: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: There are several therapeutic options for the management of shoulder adhesive capsulitis (AC). The superiority of arthro-distension over intra-articular steroid injection (ISI) for AC remains controversial. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy of a single arthro-distension procedure combined with early and intensive mobilization (ADM) and physiotherapy, versus ISI and physiotherapy, in people with AC lasting ≥3 months. METHODS: This was a prospective, 2 parallel-group, 2-center, observer-blind randomized controlled trial conducted in tertiary care settings. Adults with AC were ra

Successful Treatment of Adventitious Bursitis With Marginal Resection in a 23-Year-Old Patient: A Case Report.

Adventitious bursitis is an inflammatory condition affecting bursae. Distinct from primary or infectious bursitis, adventitious bursitis typically develops secondary to conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, or repetitive joint overuse. The resulting inflammation can lead to pain, swelling, and restricted mobility, significantly impacting patients' quality of life. In this paper, we present the case of a 23-year-old patient who reported to our clinic with swelling and pain localized to the right arm. Clinical examination, imaging studies, and histopathological analysis confirmed a prel

Does Integration of Graded Motor Imagery Training Augment the Efficacy of a Multimodal Physiotherapy Program for Patients With Frozen Shoulder? A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Despite the availability of numerous treatment modalities for frozen shoulder, spanning from nonsurgical approaches to surgical interventions, a consensus regarding the most effective treatment remains elusive. Current studies emphasize that pain in frozen shoulder affects central nervous system activity and leads to changes in cortical structures, which are responsible for processing sensory information (like pain) and controlling motor functions (like movement). These cortical changes highlight the importance of including the central nervous system in the management of frozen sho

Ibuprofen-Induced Pancytopenia and Erythema Multiforme in an Elderly Female Patient.

Erythema multiforme (EM) is a delayed, cell-mediated cutaneous disease with varying clinical manifestations. It is most commonly associated with infections but can also be associated with medications, vaccines, and autoimmune diseases. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used analgesics that have rare associations with EM and pancytopenia. These adverse reactions to NSAIDs can obscure definitive diagnosis due to their rarity. We present a case where an elderly female patient taking 600mg of ibuprofen up to four times a day for shoulder bursitis developed EM and pancytop
