Diagnostic Accuracy of a Telemedicine-Based Shoulder Examination Compared With MRI in Rotator Cuff Syndrome: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background Telemedicine is increasingly used in musculoskeletal care, but the accuracy of remote physical examination for rotator cuff syndrome, compared with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), remains unclear. This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of telemedicine-based shoulder maneuvers against MRI, with secondary analyses including in-person examination. Methods A cross-sectional diagnostic accuracy study was conducted. Patients underwent standardized teleconsultations with Jobe, infraspinatus, and Bear Hug tests, each analyzed for pain and weakness. All patients also underwent the

Si-ITGA6-Loaded Liposomes Inhibit Capsule Fibrosis via the FAK/PI3K/Akt Signaling Pathway in Adhesive Capsulitis of Shoulder.

BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis of shoulder (ACS) is a common shoulder disease with pain, joint stiffness, and capsule fibrosis. The pathogenesis of ACS remains unclear, and long-term efficacy of current treatment for ACS is not satisfactory. Given the absence of targeted therapy, proteomic analysis is conducted on the capsules of ACS patients, in an effort to identify the potential target for ACS treatment. The liposome-based siRNA delivery system was utilized for in vivo experiments due to its non-immunogenicity, stability, and low off-target effects compared to other siRNA delivery methods.

Rare Case of Musculocutaneous Neuropathy in a Professional Baseball Pitcher.

INTRODUCTION: Adhesive capsulitis, or frozen shoulder, is a painful and disabling condition characterized by progressive restriction of shoulder movement. Hydrodilatation, a minimally invasive procedure involving joint capsule distension, has been proposed as an effective treatment option. This study evaluates the functional outcomes of hydrodilatation in patients with adhesive capsulitis using the Constant-Murley score (CMS) and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, along with pre- and post-procedure range of motion (ROM) assessments. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective observa

Antioxidant RuCo nanosheet attenuates capsule fibrosis in adhesive capsulitis of shoulder by p38 MAPK signaling pathway inhibition.

Adhesive capsulitis of shoulder (ACS) is a prevalent orthopedic disorder characterized by pain and restricted range of motion (ROM). The pathogenesis of ACS remains unclear and current treatments have limited efficacy in terms of long-term outcomes. Here, we synthesized antioxidant RuCo nanosheets (RuCo-NSs) for the treatment of ACS. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging ability and the effect of RuCo-NSs on the activation of mouse fibroblasts NIH3T3s were investigated. In addition, RuCo-NSs were administered to the mouse model of ACS through intra-articular injection into joint capsule

Bidirectional Mendelian randomization analysis reveals the causal effects of nutrients on arthropathies.

Arthropathy was related to macronutrients in an increasing number of studies nowadays. However, the causal effect of macronutrients and micronutrients on them remains unknown. The macronutrient and micronutrient summary statistics from the greatest genome-wide meta-analysis produced by the DietGen and other cohorts and genome-wide association studies statistics of arthropathy from FinnGen were used in this two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization investigation. The causal relationship between macronutrients and arthropathy was investigated using inverse variance weighting (IVW), Mendel

Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Lavage for the Treatment of Calcific Tendinopathy of the Supraspinatus: A Comprehensive Approach.

Calcific tendinopathy of the supraspinatus is a common shoulder condition, characterized by calcium deposits in the supraspinatus tendon, part of the rotator cuff. This condition leads to pain, functional limitations, and a reduced quality of life. Its etiology is multifactorial, involving degenerative processes, metabolic alterations, and biomechanical factors. Ultrasound-guided percutaneous lavage (UGPL) is an emerging treatment option to remove calcium deposits and restore function. The shoulder joint's anatomy is intricate, and calcific tendinopathy primarily affects the supraspinatus tend

A Mechanistic Classification for Superior Labral Injuries Guides Operative Management.

The purpose of this article is to provide a clinically oriented classification system for superior labral injuries based on etiology, pathoanatomy, and associated biceps-labrum anchor complex injuries. The proposed classification system is based primarily on the mechanism of superior labral injuries as an ABCD classification (A, acute trauma; B, Bankart extension from instability; C, chronic repetitive overhead activity; and D, degenerative). The recognition of the cause is paramount to appropriately treating these patients, especially when considering operative treatment. Traumatic injuries i

Causal effects of sedentary behavior and physical activity on the risk of musculoskeletal disorders: Evidence from Mendelian randomization analysis.

Previous studies have noted the associations of sedentary behavior and physical activity with several musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), yet the causality of these relationships remains unclear. In this study, we probed into the causal associations between sedentary behavior, physical activity, and the risk of 13 MSDs through Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. We obtained summary statistics for leisure screen time (LST) and moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for 2-sample univariable MR analysis. The linkage disequilibrium scor

Olfactory training using nasal inserts is more effective due to increased adherence.

BACKGROUND: The recommended treatment for hyposmia (a clinically reduced sense of smell) is olfactory training using odor containers that the patients smell twice a day for several weeks. Adherence to the olfactory training regimen is, however, generally low. We aimed to investigate if a new form of odor delivery, using scented nasal inserts, could enhance adherence to olfactory training by allowing participants to be mobile during the training and thereby lower the perceived intrusion on everyday life. METHODS: Using a randomized controlled parallel-group design, individuals (N = 116) with h

A causal association between lipid-lowering medications and rotator cuff syndrome: a drug-targeted mendelian randomization study.

Background: Previous research has suggested that dyslipidemia may be a risk factor for rotator cuff syndrome (RCS), and lipid-lowering drugs may aid in its treatment, though conclusions have not been definitive. Mendelian randomization is a statistical method that explores the causal relationships between exposure factors and diseases. It overcomes the confounding issues inherent in traditional observational studies, thereby providing more reliable causal inferences. We employed this method to investigate whether hyperlipidemia is a risk factor for rotator cuff syndrome and whether lipid-lower

A Case Report Emphasizing the Advantageous Effect of Mulligan Mobilization Technique in the Management of Rotator Cuff Syndrome to Enhance Functional Recovery in a 65-Year-Old Farmer.

Adults with shoulder pain often have partial rotator cuff injuries (RCIs) as the underlying cause. RC partial tears are one of the common conditions that can have a major influence on a wide range of people, including sportspeople, workers, and sedentary adults with rotator cuff syndrome (RCS). Any injury, disease, or deteriorating condition that affects the shoulder's RC muscles and tendons is recognized as RCS. Subacromial bursitis, RC tendonitis, subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS), rotator cuff tears (RCTs), etc., are a few disorders linked to RCS. For partial RCT, nonoperative treatmen

[Correlation and diagnostic agreement between magnetic resonance imaging and arthroscopy in rotator cuff rupture: a 10-year study at the Naval Medical Center].

INTRODUCTION: arthroscopy is the gold standard for detecting rotator cuff tears, but its invasive nature limits widespread use. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) serves as a precise alternative. The correlation and diagnostic agreement between MRI and arthroscopy are unclear in the Mexican population. MATERIAL AND METHODS: adults with rotator cuff syndrome who underwent shoulder arthroscopy and MRI were included. Findings were classified as total tear (100%), partial tear grade I (< 50%), partial tear grade II ( 50%), or no tear. Concordance and correlation between MRI and arthroscopy were eva
