Mechanical properties of neck, shoulder, and arm muscles in individuals with rotator cuff syndrome: A MyotonPRO study.

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff syndrome (RCS) is a common cause of shoulder pain and functional limitation. This study compared muscle mechanical properties between affected and unaffected sides and with healthy controls, and examined their relationships with pain, disability, and kinesiophobia. METHODS: Thirty-four patients with RCS and 31 age- and sex-matched healthy adults were included. Dynamic stiffness, oscillation frequency, and logarithmic decrement of the upper trapezius, sternocleidomastoid (SCM), biceps brachii, triceps brachii, and deltoid were measured bilaterally using the MyotonPRO.

On-site manual therapy for firefighters in Seoul: six-month utilization and outcome from a retrospective service analysis and web-based survey.

BACKGROUND: In 2023, firefighters in Seoul responded to over two million emergency calls, exposing them to substantial physical and psychological strain. This working environment increases the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and occupational stress. To address these issues, the Seoul Metropolitan Fire & Disaster Headquarters (SMFDH) piloted a manual therapy program provided at fire stations. To our knowledge, this manuscript is the first report describing the feasibility of such an intervention in fire stations. METHODS: From 11 June to 6 December 2024, one Korean Medicine (KM) doctor

Diagnosis and Treatment of Rotator Cuff Syndrome: A Narrative Review.

Rotator cuff disorders constitute one of the most frequent causes of shoulder pain and functional limitation, with a high prevalence in the adult population and a significant impact on quality of life. These conditions include a broad clinical spectrum ranging from tendinopathy and partial tears to full-thickness ruptures, and their clinical presentation does not always maintain a direct relationship with the magnitude of structural damage observed in imaging studies. A thorough clinical assessment should remain the basis of the diagnosis, with imaging tests used wisely to support clinical fin

Causal associations between 26 musculoskeletal disorders and gut microbiota: a Mendelian randomization analysis with Bayesian validation.

Emerging evidence suggests that gut microbiota imbalances may influence the onset of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), yet conclusive evidence establishing causation remains limited. This study investigates the causal relationship between gut microbiota and a range of MSDs, aiming to identify potential therapeutic targets. Using data on 211 gut microbiome taxa from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) and summary statistics for 26 MSDs from the Finnish Biobank, we employed Mendelian randomization (MR) with inverse-variance weighting (IVW) as the primary analytical approach, complemented by B

Causal effects of sedentary behavior and physical activity on the risk of musculoskeletal disorders: Evidence from Mendelian randomization analysis.

Previous studies have noted the associations of sedentary behavior and physical activity with several musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), yet the causality of these relationships remains unclear. In this study, we probed into the causal associations between sedentary behavior, physical activity, and the risk of 13 MSDs through Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. We obtained summary statistics for leisure screen time (LST) and moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for 2-sample univariable MR analysis. The linkage disequilibrium scor

Olfactory training using nasal inserts is more effective due to increased adherence.

BACKGROUND: The recommended treatment for hyposmia (a clinically reduced sense of smell) is olfactory training using odor containers that the patients smell twice a day for several weeks. Adherence to the olfactory training regimen is, however, generally low. We aimed to investigate if a new form of odor delivery, using scented nasal inserts, could enhance adherence to olfactory training by allowing participants to be mobile during the training and thereby lower the perceived intrusion on everyday life. METHODS: Using a randomized controlled parallel-group design, individuals (N = 116) with h
