Lateral epicondylitis is a common overuse tendinopathy presenting with lateral elbow pain and reduced grip strength. Diagnosis is clinical. Numerous conservative treatments are described, but evidence shows short-come outcomes similar to those with no active therapy. Injections or surgery may be considered if symptoms persist. This review provides an updated overview to guide management.

Chronic pain affects many adults worldwide. Its prevalence increases with age, making it an important and growing public health concern. At the neurophysiological level, pain transmission follows a complex neuronal pathway. With repeated activation, this system can become sensitized, contributing to the persistence of chronic pain through central augmentation. Given its complexity, chronic pain has been approached through multiple medical paradigms, including allopathic/pharmaceutical, osteopathic, chiropractic, and psychological therapies. More recently, functional neurology has emerged as a

OBJECTIVES: Pain in PsA is common and multifactorial, involving nociceptive, neuropathic and nociplastic mechanisms. We hypothesized that PsA patients with entheseal pain exhibit distinct brain activation patterns on functional MRI (fMRI), depending on the presence of US-detected inflammation.
METHODS: PsA patients underwent clinical evaluation, US assessment of the Achilles tendon and fMRI brain imaging. Participants were grouped as follows: Group 1-clinical Achilles enthesitis with active US findings (hypoechogenicity and Doppler ≥grade-2); Group 2-clinical enthesitis but negative US; Group

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory disease with highly heterogeneous clinical manifestations associated with psoriasis (PsO). The wide variability in presentation, together with the absence of definitive serological biomarkers, makes early diagnosis particularly challenging. This review evaluates the role of ultrasound in identifying and characterising musculoskeletal involvement across the psoriatic disease (PsD) continuum-from asymptomatic PsO to established PsA.
RECENT FINDINGS: Ultrasound can detect subclinical synovitis, enthesitis, pe

OBJECTIVE: Musculoskeletal complications represent a significant burden in diabetes, yet the distinct presentation between Type 1 (T1DM) and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) remains under-characterized. This study aimed to evaluate and quantify the burden of rheumatic manifestations and subclinical enthesopathy in these two distinct clinical phenotypes.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 65 patients (21 T1DM, 44 T2DM). A comprehensive rheumatological evaluation assessed adhesive capsulitis (defined as painful restriction of active and passive motion in ≥ 2 planes), knee osteoa

BACKGROUND: Self-limiting or degenerative upper extremity musculoskeletal conditions (UEMSCs) are common and often managed without medical intervention. This study aims to identify latent subgroups of these conditions in individuals who do not seek care, by examining a range of biopsychosocial factors. Understanding these patterns, can provide insights to inform personalized and comprehensive care strategies for individuals who do seek medical attention for musculoskeletal illnesses.
METHODS: A total of 4,635 healthcare staff who provided consent were included in a within cohort-cross-section

INTRODUCTION: Acute calcific periarthritis (ACP) is a self-limiting inflammatory condition most commonly involving the rotator cuff of the shoulder. Its presentation in the hand is rare and often mimics infectious processes, leading to potential misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment. Prompt recognition through imaging is crucial for accurate diagnosis and management.
CASE REPORT: We present a case report of a 84-year-old woman who presented with acute pain, swelling, and erythema of the right thumb. Clinical examination suggested an infectious etiology; however, plain radiographs were obta

TORCH-associated encephalopathy in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is accompanied by a pronounced neurometabolic syndrome characterized by neuronal damage, mitochondrial energy deficiency, and disturbances in methylation processes. In the present study, children with ASD and confirmed TORCH-related central nervous system injury demonstrated significantly elevated serum levels of neuron-specific enolase (NSE), lactate, ammonia, and homocysteine, reflecting neuronal injury, mitochondrial dysfunction, and metabolic dysregulation. These alterations were more pronounced than in childre

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] is a clinically used biomarker of vitamin D nutritional status, although it is also influenced by sunlight exposure, supplementation, season, and other host factors. Short-term functional status after extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) for lateral epicondylitis varies. We evaluated whether serum 25(OH)D level and status were associated with 12-week functional outcomes among ESWT-treated patients.
METHODS: This single-center retrospective cohort included 62 adults with lateral epicondylitis who received outpatient ESWT and had ba

INTRODUCTION: Radial tunnel syndrome (RTS) remains an overlooked cause of chronic elbow pain. Clinical overlap with lateral epicondylitis, and the coexistence of other nerve entrapments contribute to diagnostic uncertainty. This study aimed to characterise the clinical presentation, and concomitant pain/nerve entrapment patterns following surgical decompression of posterior interosseous nerve (PIN) compression, and to explore the Neurogenic Elbow Disharmony Loop (NEDL) as a hypothesis-generating model for refractory elbow pain.
METHODS: A retrospective review of 157 operated arms in 143 patie

Repetitive use injuries are commonly seen by musculoskeletal providers, usually in the form of tendinopathies. However, focal peripheral nerve entrapment can mimic or coexist with tendon pathology, particularly when weakness, sensory symptoms, or imaging findings are subtle or nonspecific. This review provides a practical, symptom-first framework to help clinicians distinguish tendon-dominant, nerve-dominant, and mixed presentations in clinical practice. Five clinically relevant tendon-nerve mimic pairs are emphasized: (1) rotator cuff tendinopathy versus suprascapular neuropathy; (2) lateral

Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common haematological malignancy characterised by clonal proliferation of plasma cells within the bone marrow. Despite advances in treatment options, myeloma remains incurable. Relapsed MM poses significant challenges due to clonal evolution, drug resistance, patient comorbidities and therefore complexities of therapeutic decision-making. A critical question in managing relapsed MM is whether to switch drug classes or retreat with agents within the same class. The question is present with the recent addition of three new drug classes (XPO1 inhibitors, B

In recent decades, there has been a call for change among all stakeholders involved in scoliosis management. Parents of children with scoliosis have complained about the so-called "wait and see" approach that far too many doctors use when evaluating children's scoliosis curves between 10° and 25°. Observation, Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercises (PSSE) and bracing for idiopathic scoliosis during growth are all therapeutic interventions accepted by the 2011 International Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT). The standard features of these interventions a

BACKGROUND: Batracylin is a heterocyclic arylamine topoisomerase inhibitor with preclinical anticancer activity. Marked species differences in sensitivity to the toxicity of batracylin were observed and attributed to differential formation of N-acetylbatracylin by N-acetyltransferase. A Phase I trial of batracylin in cancer patients with slow acetylator genotypes identified a dose-limiting toxicity of hemorrhagic cystitis. To further explore the metabolism of batracylin and N-acetylbatracylin across species, detailed studies using human, rat, and dog liver microsomal and hepatocyte preparation

BACKGROUND: Alcohol consumption during pregnancy is a significant public health problem and can result in a continuum of adverse outcomes to the fetus known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). Subjects with FASD show significant neurological deficits, ranging from microencephaly, neurobehavioral, and mental health problems to poor social adjustment and stress tolerance. Neurons are particularly sensitive to alcohol exposure. The neurotoxic action of alcohol, i.e., through ROS production, induces DNA damage and neuronal cell death by apoptosis. In addition, epigenetics, including DNA me
