Taping is a common technique used to address proprioceptive deficits in both healthy and patient population groups. Although there is increasing interest in taping to address proprioceptive deficits, little is known about its effects on the kinetic aspects of proprioception as measured by force sense accuracy. To address this gap in the literature, the present systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the impact of taping on force sense accuracy. A search for relevant literature was conducted following PRISMA guidelines across seven databases and one register. Eleven studie

There is a wide range of elbow injuries including chronic injuries such as lateral epicondylitis, medial epicondylitis, and cubital tunnel syndrome, or acute injuries such as elbow fracture-dislocations and distal biceps tendon ruptures. Combinations of acute and chronic elbow injuries have been reported including country club elbow and terrible triad of the elbow which are important to identify to properly treat. Thus, we report for the first time a new elbow injury triad termed Olympic elbow in a 65-year-old man comprising lateral epicondylitis, cubital tunnel syndrome, and a distal biceps t

Overhead throwing, particularly in baseball, subjects the shoulder and elbow to various unique injuries. Capsular contracture following repetitive external rotation shifts the humeral head posterosuperiorly, predisposing to glenohumeral internal rotation deficit (GIRD), Bennett, posterosuperior internal impingement (PSI), and superior labrum anterior-posterior (SLAP) lesions. GIRD represents loss of internal rotation at the expense of external rotation. Bennett lesion represents ossification of the posteroinferior glenohumeral ligament due to repetitive traction. PSI manifests with humeral hea

For patients with elbow pain, a comprehensive history and physical examination can identify the mechanism of injury and specific tests can help determine the underlying pathology. When imaging is indicated, x-ray typically is the initial modality. Indications for ultrasonography include the need for static, dynamic, and stress visualization of elbow cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and osseous structures. Magnetic resonance imaging study is preferred for assessment of chronic elbow pain because of its ability to detect bone marrow edema, tendinopathy, nerve entrapment, and joint effusion. In chi

BACKGROUND: This case series aimed to introduce surgical management for refractory medial epicondylitis based on the anatomical characteristics of the flexor pronator origin and present the surgical results.
METHODS: Ten elbows from 8 patients (2 males and 6 females; mean age 50.2 years) were included in this case series. All patients underwent resection of the degenerated anterior common tendon and repair using suture anchors. Ulnar neuritis was observed in 9 elbows of 7 patients who underwent the relevant additional surgery.
RESULTS: Medial elbow pain was resolved in all patients, and pain

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Several authors have also made reference to a less prevalent condition known in elbow as ulnar nerve subluxation. However, this particular condition tends to manifest primarily in young individuals who engage in professional sports or activities involving extensive use of the forearm. A more severe form of ulnar nerve subluxation, which is ulnar nerve dislocation, gives rise to a characteristic dislocation and relocation of the nerve at the elbow during flexion and extension of the forearm. Due to the rarity of this condition in clinical settings and its predominan

INTRODUCTION: As demand for orthopaedic care increases, the orthopaedic community must preserve access to skilled physicians. Workplace hazards and related injuries or conditions contribute to musculoskeletal (MSK) stress on orthopaedic surgeons, which can lead to undesirable medical leaves of absence or early retirement. The purpose of this study was to identify and characterize work-related and non-work-related MSK conditions that affect orthopaedic surgeons and differential injury patterns among male and female surgeons. This study hypothesized that MSK conditions would be exacerbated by wo

BACKGROUND: Medial epicondylitis (ME) is a pathological condition that arises in laborers and athletes secondary to repetitive wrist flexion and forearm pronation causing degeneration of the common flexor tendon. Although nonoperative management has demonstrated high rates of success, no standardized surgical technique has been established for situations when operative management is indicated.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to perform a systematic review of the surgical treatment options for ME and evaluate the associated patient-reported outcomes (PROs). We hypothesized th

Medial elbow pain is a common presentation that can be a challenge to appropriately treat for the orthopedic surgeon. Causes include medial epicondylitis, ulnar neuritis, ulnar collateral ligament injury, flexor pronator strain, or snapping medial triceps. A good outcome is typically achieved with adequate treatment of tendon degeneration at the common flexor tendon origin. Mainstay treatment is nonoperative modalities such as stretching, rest, activity modification, therapy, and injections. If nonoperative management fails, intermediate interventions such as extracorporeal shockwave therapy,

Injuries in the elbow area, such as lateral and medial epicondylitis, are the leading causes of consultation with health specialists. Therefore, this research proposes the mechatronic design of an orthosis with a graphic interface that supports professionals in the rehabilitation of the elbow joint through the execution of flexion-extension and pronation-supination movements. For the development of the rehabilitation prototype, mechatronic design, co-design, and IDEF0 methodologies are used, performing activities such as actuator characterization, simulations, and modeling, among others. Medial epicondylitis, which is also called "Golfer's Elbow" is a pathology which typically presents as medial elbow pain. It affects 1% of the general population, yet affects 3.8% to 8.2% of work-related complaints. Golfer's elbow is common in the 40 to 60-year-old age group so those suffering from it are part of the workforce and hence, its economic impact. Women and men alike suffer from golfer's elbow, and microtrauma combined with attritional changes in the common flexor tendon origin at the medial aspect of the elbow are the culprit of this pathology. The first line of treatment is conser

Medial epicondylalgia (ME), commonly known as "the golfer's elbow", typically develops in individuals who perform repetitive forearm movements and weight-bearing activities. It accounts for up to 20% of all epicondylitis cases and is most prevalent in particular sports and occupations. Though the diagnosis can be made based on sole clinical examination, additional imaging might be essential for confirmation of medial epicondylitis and excluding other pathologies of the medial epicondyle region. US imaging, with a sensitivity and specificity of 95% and 92%, respectively, remains a practical and

To synthesize the available information on the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections against surgery as therapy strategies for medial epicondylitis (ME). We searched the Embase, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library databases with the relevant keywords to identify the studies comparing the efficiency of PRP injections and ME surgery. We excluded non-English articles, case reports, and conference abstracts. Only two studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the qualitative synthesis. No conflicts were reported between both studies. Both studies were carried out in the Uni

BACKGROUND: This retrospective study compared the outcomes after open and arthroscopic treatment of chronic medial epicondylitis (ME).
METHODS: The study included 44 elbows in 38 patients: 25 (29-72 years) in the open group and 19 (27-70 years) in the arthroscopy group. The indications for ME surgery were failed conservative therapy for more than 3 months, symptom duration exceeding 6 months, and persistent severe pain. We used radiography, ultrasonography, and magnetic resonance imaging assessments. The clinical assessment included operating time, range of motion, grip strength, visual analo

This systematic review updates a previous systematic review on work-related physical and psychosocial risk factors for elbow disorders. Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Central and PsycINFO were searched for studies on associations between work-related physical or psychosocial risk factors and the occurrence of elbow disorders. Two independent reviewers selected eligible studies and assessed risk of bias (RoB). Results of studies were synthesized narratively. We identified 17 new studies and lateral epicondylitis was the most studied disorder (13 studies). Five studies had a prospecti

OBJECTIVES: Despite the high frequency of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, the relation between work conditions and ulnar nerve entrapment at the elbow has not been the object of much research. In the present study, the predictive factors for such ulnar nerve entrapment were determined in a 3-year prospective survey of upper-limb work-related musculoskeletal disorders in repetitive work.
METHODS: In 1993-1994 and 3 years later, 598 workers whose jobs involved repetitive work underwent an examination by their occupational health physicians and completed a self-administered questionnaire

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in patients with clinically diagnosed medial epicondylitis (ME) and determined whether any of the MRI findings correlated with the follow-up pain level after nonoperative treatment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 83 patients who had undergone elbow MRI examinations for clinically diagnosed ME and who were followed-up for more than 6 months. Five categories of MRI findings were selected for qualitative grading: common flexor tendon (CFT) origin signal changes, ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) insufficiency, ul
