A retrospective magnetic resonance imaging analysis of bone and soft tissue changes associated with the spectrum of tarsal coalitions.

We aimed to investigate the bone and soft tissue changes accompanying tarsal coalition (TC) and aimed to evaluate their association with the location and type of coalition. Ankle magnetic resonance imagings of 65 patients with TC were included. The relationship between the location and type of coalition and bone marrow edema, subchondral cysts, sinus tarsi syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome, posterior impingement syndrome, accessory bone, tibiotalar effusion, talar osteochondritis dissecans, ganglion cysts, and calcaneal spur were evaluated. Twenty-nine patients without coalition were selected a

Triad of foot deformities and its conservative treatment: With a 3D customized insole.

The coexisting of three deformities as hallux valgus, flatfoot, and the calcaneal spur is an undefined medical condition, and it may be called triad of foot deformities (TFD) as a definition for a new disease entity. A customized 3D insole prototype was created by postprocessing of MRI data, and printed by 3D printer technology for the purpose of providing effective and innovative treatment for TFD. A 42 years-old female was clinically examined for TFD findings. All radiological measurements were made on the weightbearing anteroposterior and lateral X-rays. The patient underwent the pedogram (

Acral Calcified Vascular Leiomyoma: Report of 3 Cases and Literature Review.

Angioleiomyomas are benign neoplasms, which usually present as solitary, slow-growing nodules on the skin of lower extremities, but acral location on the hands or feet is unusual. Yet, microscopically, they may show many histopathological variants, focal calcification is uncommon. Extensive calcification masquerading the real nature of the tumor has been rarely reported, the term acral calcified leiomyoma having been proposed for this entity. This change is more often in distal locations and has been interpreted as degenerative in nature, probably related to repetitive minor trauma. We report

A Randomised-Controlled Clinical Study Examining the Effect of High-Intensity Laser Therapy (HILT) on the Management of Painful Calcaneal Spur with Plantar Fasciitis.

Calcaneal spur and plantar fasciitis are the most common causes of plantar heel pain. There are many effective physical modalities for treating this musculoskeletal disorder. So far, the are no clear recommendations confirming the clinical utility of high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) in the management of painful calcaneal spur with plantar fasciitis. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of HILT in pain management in patients with calcaneal spur and plantar fasciitis. A group of 65 patients was assessed for eligibility based on the CONSORT guidelines. This study was prospectively re

The Relationship between Calcaneal Spur Type and Plantar Fasciitis in Chinese Population.

Plantar heel pain is a common disease with a high incidence in different races. It significantly reduced the quality of life of patients. However, the cause of PHP is still controversial and there were varieties of physiological factors associated with PHP. The most common pathological factor in the population was plantar fasciitis. Some existing research studies had found a correlation between calcaneal spurs and plantar fasciitis, and this study had found the correlation in Chinese population. It is invaluable not only to understand the relationship between different types of plantar calcane

Effect of Metatarsal Head Shape on the Development of Hallux Valgus Deformity: 10 Years of Natural Follow-up.

BACKGROUND: We investigated the role of first metatarsal head shape in the etiology of hallux valgus. By pedobarographic analysis, we evaluated whether first metatarsal head shape causes an alteration in plantar pressure values that would result in metatarsalgia. METHODS: Referrals to our clinic for metatarsalgia, plantar fasciitis, and calcaneal spur were scanned retrospectively. Patients with severe hallux valgus, pes planus, gastrocnemius stiffness, generalized joint laxity, neuromuscular disease, or a history of lower-extremity orthopedic surgery were excluded. Ultrasound-Guided Hydrodissection for Baxter's Neuropathy Secondary to Plantar Fasciitis: A Case Report.

Plantar heel pain is a common pain condition encountered in clinical practice. The common etiologies include plantar fasciitis, calcaneal spur, calcaneus stress fracture, systemic causes, and trauma. Neurogenic causes, including entrapment at the tarsal tunnel or Baxter's nerve entrapment, can contribute to the heel pain and should not be overlooked. In this case report, we describe a patient with severe heel pain, presenting with overlapping features of plantar fasciitis and neuropathic pain. Magnetic resonance imaging suggested Baxter's nerve entrapment, and a subsequent ultrasound-guided hy

Bilateral calcaneal insufficiency fractures due to chronic carbamazepine use for trigeminal neuralgia: A case report.

Stress fractures of calcaneus are uncommon cause of heel pain. Stress fractures could be seen in risc groups such as metabolic diseases/medications causing poor bone quality and exposing repetitive microtrauma. Anti-epileptic drug (AED) use is related with poor bone quality and increased fracture risc. Although carbamazepine-induced stress fracture is a well-known entity and there are case reports in other bones such as the femoral neck, bilateral calcaneal insufficiency fractures is an extraordinary location. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case reporting an insufficiency frac

A Prospective Study of Ultrasonographic and FNAC Correlation of Thyroid Swellings with Histopathology.

Recombinant preparations of the cytokine interferon (IFN)-alpha are increasingly used to treat a number of medical conditions, including chronic viral hepatitis and several malignancies. Although frequently effective, IFN alpha induces a variety of neuropsychiatric adverse effects, including an acute confusional state that develops rapidly after initiation of high-dose IFN alpha, a depressive syndrome that develops more slowly over weeks to months of treatment, and manic conditions most often characterised by extreme irritability and agitation, but also occasionally by euphoria. Acute IFN alph

A Rare Cause of Heel Pain: A Calcaneal Spur Fracture.

Heel pain is a complaint frequently encountered in orthopedic clinics that has peculiar symptoms and may have various etiologic causes. Calcaneal spur fracture is an extremely rare cause of heel pain, and only four cases had previously been reported in the English language literature. We present a 45-year-old woman who had heel pain on her right foot after falling from a height onto the heel. Radiographic examination of her right foot showed a fractured calcaneal spur, which was successfully treated with conservative methods. Calcaneal heel pain is a complaint that may be attributable to many
