Case Report: Pansteatitis with sterile nodular panniculitis (SNP) in a dog.

A 3-year-old, castrated male Jindo dog presented with a 5-day history of pyrexia, lethargy, anorexia, and abdominal pain. Physical examination revealed multiple subcutaneous nodules, and abdominal ultrasonography showed numerous intra-abdominal nodules. Computed tomography (CT) identified widespread subcutaneous fatty nodules with fat stranding and multiple poorly defined nodular lesions within the abdominal fat. Histopathological examination confirmed panniculitis and steatitis, with no infectious agents identified. Based on these findings, a final diagnosis of sterile nodular panniculitis (S

Case Report: Pyogranulomatous Panniculitis Mimicking an Invasive Subcutaneous Mass with Muscular Pseudo-Invasion in a Dog.

This report describes an atypical presentation of pyogranulomatous panniculitis and perifolliculitis in an 11-year-old mixed-breed dog. The patient presented with a firm, warm cervical mass that progressed with unusual aggression over a matter of days. While advanced diagnostics, including Computed Tomography (CT) and Ultrasonography (US), provided critical data regarding the lesion's extent, they proved deceptive in determining its etiology; the imaging demonstrated apparent continuity between the mass and the adjacent musculature, strongly favoring a diagnosis of invasive neoplasia. Due to t

Solid lipid nanoparticles in skin cancer: A comprehensive review of mechanism, formulation, and therapeutic advances.

Skin cancer continues to pose a major global health burden, with the incidence of melanoma projected to reach approximately 510,000 cases and non-melanoma to increase 1.5-fold by 2040. Despite significant advances in cancer therapeutics, conventional treatment modalities for skin cancer, including chemotherapy, are associated with several limitations and adverse effects, such as skin rashes and other cutaneous toxicities. In addition, immune checkpoint inhibitor-based immunotherapies, which are widely used in advanced melanoma, are frequently associated with immune-related adverse events, incl

Pancreatic Panniculitis: Silent Conundrum?

Pancreatic panniculitis is a rare cutaneous manifestation of pancreatic disease, most commonly occurring in patients with acute or chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic neoplasms. In most reported cases, pancreatic pathology is recognized before or concurrent with the onset of skin lesions; less commonly, panniculitis precedes the diagnosis. Histology demonstrates a lobular panniculitis with saponified fat necrosis and anucleate "ghost" adipocytes, findings that are pathognomonic. Clinically, pancreatic panniculitis presents as tender subcutaneous nodules, most often on the lower extremities, and

Hypercalcemia in neonatal subcutaneous fat necrosis: A systematic review of risk factors, timing, and complications.

BackgroundSubcutaneous fat necrosis (SCFN) of the newborn is a rare panniculitis. It is characterized by erythematous, indurated nodules or plaques involving the back, buttocks, or extremities. Although the lesions usually resolve spontaneously, SCFN can be complicated by hypercalcemia. This complication may lead to significant morbidity and mortality. This review summarizes the risk factors, timing, and complications of hypercalcemia in SCFN.MethodThis review followed the PRISMA 2020 statement (Registration ID: CRD420251145895). A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDire

Xanthomatous Reactions in Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus-More Than an Incidental Finding?

Cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) is a well-known autoimmune disorder within dermatology. However, findings of lipid-laden macrophages and xanthomas in a subset of these cases are less understood and usually labeled as a rare, incidental finding. For this reason, a very limited amount of literature has been published regarding the phenomenon. We reviewed 84 cases diagnosed as CLE from 2022 to 2024 from our dermatopathology laboratory. Of the 84 cases of CLE, 9 (11%) demonstrated xanthomatous changes, with 67% sub-classified as discoid lupus and 33% as lupus panniculitis. CLE with xanthomatou

Pancreatitis, panniculitis, polyarthritis syndrome as an initial manifestation of metastatic pancreatic cancer in a breast cancer patient: Importance of early recognition and multidisciplinary management: A case report.

Pancreatitis, panniculitis, and polyarthritis syndrome is a rare extrapancreatic triad associated with pancreatic disease and occasionally malignancy. We report a 51-year-old woman with prior hormone receptor-negative, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive breast invasive ductal carcinoma (bilateral mastectomy, adjuvant trastuzumab/pertuzumab, radiation) who developed abrupt painful erythematous nodules of both legs and progressive polyarthralgia of the hands, knees, and ankles. Symptoms were initially treated as inflammatory rheumatic disease with systemic corticosteroids and dise

Diffuse pericardial, intraabdominal, and subcutaneous non-infected fat necrosis in patient with chronic pancreatitis, managed with thoracoscopic and abdominal debridement.

We describe a patient that acutely presented with concomitant non-infected diffuse pericardial, intraabdominal, and subcutaneous fat necrosis in the setting of previously undiagnosed chronic calcific pancreatitis. There was no associated pancreatic necrosis, pseudocyst, or fistula. We have not encountered in the literature a previous description. The patient was managed with combination of abdominal and thoracoscopic resections and a favorable 4-year outcome. Exact mechanism of this case is uncertain. Based on clinical, intraoperative, and imaging findings, we consider that the etiology was in

Facial Soft Tissue Augmentation Using Lateral Thoracic-Based Free Flaps in Autoimmune-Related Facial Lipoatrophy.

BACKGROUND: Facial soft tissue atrophy secondary to autoimmune disease poses a unique reconstructive challenge. Conventional methods such as fat grafting and alloplastic augmentation often yield unsatisfactory results in this population owing to chronic inflammation, immunosuppressive therapy, and progressive tissue destruction. This study presents clinical outcomes of facial soft tissue augmentation using lateral thoracic-based free flaps-specifically the serratus anterior muscle (SAm) flap and the thoracodorsal artery perforator (TDAP) flap-in patients with autoimmune-related facial lipoatro

Neutrophilic Panniculitis in a Pediatric Patient Receiving Ponatinib.

Ponatinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor used in children with chronic myeloid leukemia. We report a case of neutrophilic panniculitis following ponatinib administration in a child. With the expanded use of immunomodulatory medications in the pediatric population, this report aims to expand knowledge regarding potential drug-related adverse events and the inclusion of ponatinib-related adverse events in the differential diagnosis of neutrophilic panniculitis.

Targeting type I interferon in lupus panniculitis: a case-based systematic literature review.

Lupus panniculitis (LEP) is a rare form of cutaneous lupus (CLE) characterised by progressive, often disfiguring course and poor response to treatment. Type I interferon inhibition through anifrolumab (ANF) is effective in CLE but limited data are available for its use in LEP. To address this issue, we screened patients with CLE and/or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) for biopsy-proven diagnoses of LEP and treatment with ANF. Besides demographics, general clinical features, concomitant treatments before and after ANF and safety signals, we measured disease activity and damage with the SLE di

Weakly-supervised deep learning on pathological whole-slide images for cutaneous vasculitis and its mimickers: a high-performance diagnostic support tool.

Cutaneous vasculitis represents a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by inflammation and necrosis of blood vessels within the skin, with or without systemic involvement. The pathological diagnosis of cutaneous vasculitis remains a significant challenge due to its pathological manifestations overlapping with various inflammatory skin diseases and the inherent subjectivity of manual diagnostic criteria. This study leveraged deep learning technology to develop a reliable diagnostic model for whole slide images (WSIs) of cutaneous vasculitis, aiming to standardize and enhance the consi

Atypical chronic leg ulcers revealing pancreatic panniculitis associated with pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Dear Editor, Pancreatic panniculitis (PP) is a rare form of lobular panniculitis associated with pancreatic disorders, including acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic neoplasms. It develops in a small percentage of patients with pancreatic disease and may represent the first manifestation of an occult malignancy. Clinically, PP usually presents with painful erythematous-to-violaceous nodules on the lower extremities, which may ulcerate and discharge oily brown material secondary to liquefactive fat necrosis induced by circulating pancreatic enzymes. Because of its rarity and heterogene

Symptomatic Mesenteric Panniculitis Associated With a Suspicious Cecal Lesion: A Case Report.

Mesenteric panniculitis is an uncommon inflammatory disorder involving the adipose tissue of the mesentery. Although it is frequently discovered incidentally on computed tomography (CT), it may occasionally present with nonspecific abdominal symptoms, making diagnosis challenging. We report the case of an 85-year-old woman who presented with a three-day history of acute abdominal pain. Contrast-enhanced abdominopelvic CT demonstrated increased attenuation of the mesenteric fat with small subcentimeter mesenteric lymph nodes, producing a "misty mesentery" appearance consistent with mesenteric p

Successful Surgical Resection for Protein-Losing Enteropathy Caused by Ischemic Ileitis.

INTRODUCTION: Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) is a condition characterized by the excessive loss of serum proteins through the gastrointestinal mucosa, which causes hypoalbuminemia and edema. Common causes include inflammatory diseases, neoplastic diseases, lymphatic diseases, and cardiac diseases. However, cases of PLE caused by small bowel ischemia and cured by surgical resection are rare. Herein, we report a case of PLE caused by ischemic ileitis that was successfully treated by surgical resection. CASE PRESENTATION: A 76-year-old woman presented with diarrhea and edema. She had cardiovas
