Ultrasonographic evaluation of cosmetic fillers: patterns and frequent complications - A literature review.

PURPOSE: The use of cosmetic fillers has become increasingly popular. Radiologists and sonographers should be aware of the ultrasonographic characteristics of the most commonly used cosmetic fillers and the sonographic features of their frequent complications. METHODS: Ultrasound findings of hyaluronic acid (HA), poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA), polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), polycaprolactone (PCL), silicone oil, polyalkylimide, polyacrylamide (PAAG) and autologous fat were systematically reviewed. Immediate, early, and delayed filler complications-including vascular

Case Report: Duodenal neoplasm-induced panniculitis.

Panniculitis comprises a group of diseases characterized by inflammation of the subcutaneous fat, and may present as a distinctive cutaneous paraneoplastic syndrome. Herein, we describe a case of paraneoplastic panniculitis caused by a duodenal neoplasm. The 79-year-old man presented with painful erythematous subcutaneous nodules on the lower extremities without any gastrointestinal symptoms. Histopathological manifestations of the skin included fat necrosis, calcification, and ghost cells. Laboratory test results revealed significantly elevated serum lipase levels (4144.7 U/L). Imaging reveal

Bring The Noise: Three Rules for Improving Thermospheric Density Retrieval From LEO POD Data.

BACKGROUND: Adoption of responsive trauma-informed practices by staff in hospital-based paediatric care may help mitigate downstream costs associated with treatment delivery due to reduced pain and distress for children and care providers, improved health-related quality of life and increased satisfaction with care. A web-based education intervention (termed Responsive CARE) was developed to build self-efficacy of staff in a paediatric medical setting. This protocol paper describes a feasibility study (including preliminary effectiveness) of the implementation of Responsive CARE in a tertiary,

Lupus Panniculitis Immunoprofiling Reveals a Cytotoxic, Type 1-Skewed T-Cell Response With Signs of Metabolic Alteration.

Lupus panniculitis (LP) is a neglected, often treatment-refractory subtype of cutaneous lupus erythematosus. It is characterized by inflammation of subcutaneous adipose tissue, and the pathomechanisms are poorly understood. We sought to explore the cellular and molecular signatures of LP and their relationship to systemic lupus erythematosus. We performed imaging mass cytometry (IMC; LP n = 8, Healthy Control (HC) n = 6) and targeted transcript profiling by NanoString nCounter (Human Immunology Panel, 579 genes; LP n = 9, HC n = 9). LP lesions showed extensive septal leukocyte infiltration. Th

Diffuse peritoneal mesothelioma presenting with the appearance of mesenteric panniculitis: A case report.

Diffuse peritoneal mesothelioma (DPM) is a rare and aggressive malignancy of the peritoneum. Early symptoms are non-specific and the condition is liable to misdiagnosis. In the present case, a 54-year-old man was misdiagnosed between April 2020 and October 2021 with mesenteric panniculitis. The patient later presented with a 2-month history of persistent upper-middle abdominal pain and weight loss in April 2022. A laparoscopic biopsy was performed and the sample was positive for Wilms tumor protein, Hector Battifora mesothelial-1 and podoplanin. Therefore, a diagnosis of DPM was made. A total

Necrotizing fasciitis associated with Acinetobacter lactucae and Bacillus paramobilis infections in 2 dogs.

Two immunocompetent dogs from separate households were presented to a tertiary referral hospital with soft tissue wounds attributable to severe bacterial infection. A 5-y-old, castrated male Golden Retriever dog (case 1) was presented with extensive hemorrhagic cellulitis of the forelimbs and neck that developed over 48-h and was attributable to Acinetobacter lactucae infection. Additionally, an 8-y-old, spayed female Labrador Retriever-mix dog (case 2) sustained a deep penetrating wound over the left hip that progressed over 24 h to necrotizing fasciitis, from which Bacillus paramobilis was i

Cutaneous Rhodococcus equi Infection in an Immunocompetent Host: A Case Report.

Rhodococcus equi is a zoonotic Gram-positive bacterium that can affect immunocompetent hosts and only rarely presents with cutaneous lesions resembling other granulomatous dermatoses, such as cutaneous mycobacterial infections, deep fungal infections, sarcoidosis, and foreign body granulomas. This report describes a 53-year-old immunocompetent woman who developed recurrent ulcerated nodules on the left lower extremity following recreational travel to southern Mexico. Initial diagnostic studies were nondiagnostic, and molecular analysis using polymerase chain reaction targeting the 16S rRNA gen

A Diagnostic Pitfall: Lupus Mastitis Presenting Before Diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Lupus erythematosus panniculitis or lupus erythematosus profundus (LEP) is a rare manifestation of cutaneous lupus erythematosus, with an estimated prevalence of 2%-3% in those with either systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE). LEP with involvement of the breasts is termed lupus mastitis (LM). Its presentation is heterogenous, with epidermal changes, erythema, violaceous skin changes, lipoatrophy, and ulceration with or without breast masses. LM may resemble breast malignancy; however, the clinical course, laboratory investigations, and imaging may often diffe

Clinicopathological Features of Lupus Erythematosus Panniculitis (LEP): A Retrospective Analysis of 54 Cases.

BACKGROUND: Lupus Erythematosus Panniculitis (LEP) is a rare subtype of Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus. It is a challenging disease to diagnose and treat due to limited understanding of its clinical and histopathological characteristics. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of 54 biopsy-proven LEP cases evaluated at a dermatology referral center from 2016 to 2022. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, and treatment data were extracted from medical records, and histopathologic features were reassessed when slides required further characterization. Direct immunofluorescence and serologic re

Dilute Hyaluronic Acid for Lipoatrophy: Three Cases and Literature Review.

Localized lipoatrophy, characterized by subcutaneous fat loss, can result from trauma, injectable drugs, panniculitis, or idiopathic causes, leading to outcomes ranging from self-resolution to permanent disfigurement. This case series presents a novel approach using dilute hyaluronic acid (HA) for three cases of lipoatrophy (trauma-induced, radiation-induced, and steroid-induced), with all cases showing notable improvement after one session. This approach represents a promising, low-risk alternative for managing lipoatrophy of various etiologies, with potential benefits for patient quality of

Erythema nodosum-like lesions associated with giant cell arteritis diagnosed by ultrasonography.

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a large-vessel vasculitis that primarily affects older adults and rarely presents with cutaneous lesions. We describe a woman in her 70s who developed tender erythema nodosum (EN)-like nodules on both lower legs together with headache. Histopathology showed septal panniculitis composed of lymphohistiocytic infiltrates and multinucleated giant cells without vasculitis or fibrinoid necrosis. Ultrasonography of the temporal artery revealed irregular wall thickening and tortuosity, findings that suggested a hypoechoic 'halo sign' typical of active arteritis. Corticost

Celiac Disease Presenting With Erythema Nodosum in a Child: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic autoimmune enteropathy with a wide spectrum of gastrointestinal and extraintestinal manifestations. Erythema nodosum (EN), the most common form of panniculitis in children, has only rarely been reported in association with CD, and the nature of this relationship remains unclear. We describe the case of a 2.5-year-old girl who presented with erythematous nodules on the lower extremities, which had been present for 3 weeks. Clinical evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of EN. Common infectious, inflammatory, and drug-related causes were excluded. Due to a history o

Cutaneous Hematologic Neoplasms in Children: Overview and Update.

Cutaneous hematologic neoplasms in children are relatively rare and encompass a wide range of lymphoproliferative and myeloproliferative disorders. This review explores and updates the classification, clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, histopathology, and management of pediatric lymphomas, lymphoproliferations, and leukemias that may be seen in the skin. The most frequent of them are lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP) and mycosis fungoides (MF), and are discussed first, with a particular focus on differential diagnosis and overlaps with benign lesions-mainly pityriasis lichenoides-which r

When Vasculitis Is Not Vasculitis: A Case Report in Which Dynamic Immunophenotyping Revealed Hidden Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a rare peripheral T-cell lymphoma characterized by diverse and aggressive clinical manifestations that frequently mimic autoimmune disorders. Cutaneous presentations are common and may lead to diagnostic delay. CASE REPORT: A 67-year-old woman first presented with non-blanchable skin rash, with normal platelet count and negative autoimmune markers. The rash improved with corticosteroids but recurred two months later, accompanied by fever, night sweats, limb edema, diarrhea, and cervical lymphadenopathy. Skin biopsy reported vasculit
