Weak bones, strong obsessions: a controlled study on Orthorexia nervosa, body image, and mood in postmenopausal osteoporosis.

UNLABELLED: Postmenopausal women with osteoporosis may show higher levels of orthorexic tendencies than healthy peers. These tendencies were associated with lower lumbar spine bone density but not with mood or body image measures. The findings suggest that maladaptive health-focused behaviors may be present in this population. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate orthorexic tendencies in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis compared to healthy controls and to investigate the associations between orthorexic tendencies, body appreciation, and mood-related symptoms. METHODS: This cross-sec

Effects of Menaquinone-7 on Bone Turnover Markers, Femoral Mechanical Resistance, and Histology in Young Ovariectomized Rats.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a major skeletal disorder, particularly affecting postmenopausal women. Young ovariectomized rat models are commonly used to investigate estrogen deficiency-related skeletal changes, although they do not fully reproduce osteoporosis in a mature postmenopausal skeleton. Established pharmacological therapies remain the cornerstone of osteoporosis management, while nutritional factors continue to be investigated for their potential supportive role in bone metabolism. Menaquinone-7 (MK-7), a form of vitamin K2, has been investigated for potential skeletal effects throug

Cardiovascular Implications of Calcitonin Therapy: A Narrative Review of Mechanisms, Clinical Risks, and Safety Considerations.

Calcitonin, a peptide hormone produced by thyroid parafollicular cells, is used clinically for acute hypercalcemia, Paget's disease of bone, and, less commonly, postmenopausal osteoporosis. It also has recognized analgesic utility in select pain syndromes. Although its skeletal actions are well established, concerns remain regarding potential cardiovascular adverse effects, particularly in susceptible patients and with parenteral administration. A narrative literature review was conducted using databases including PubMed and Google Scholar to identify publications evaluating the cardiovascular

Passive exercise failed to reverse OVX-induced bone microstructural degeneration to the extent achieved by HRT.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis, characterized by estrogen deficiency-induced bone loss and elevated fracture risk, is commonly managed with hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This study aimed to evaluate whether passive exercise via whole-body vibration training (WBVT) could serve as an effective alternative to HRT (represented by 17β-estradiol (E2) supplementation) for improving bone microarchitecture and metabolism and to investigate whether combining WBVT with E2 supplementation yields superior bone-protective effects compared to E2 supplementation alone. To this end, mice underwent ovariectom

Apocynum venetum leaf extract ameliorates postmenopausal osteoporosis by inhibiting RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis.

Identifying novel therapeutic efficacies of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and their underlying mechanisms is essential for TCM modernization and development. Apocynum venetum leaf (AVL) is used both as an antihypertensive medicine and as a food. Whether AVL extract possesses additional therapeutic efficacies remains to be investigated. Here, we examined the potential effect of AVL extract on ameliorating postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMO) and identified the effective fractions and underlying mechanisms of its efficacy. We found that the total extract of AVL substantially relieved osteoporo

Effect of combination versus sequential teriparatide initiation on vertebral bone marrow microenvironment in postmenopausal women with prior denosumab treatment: A propensity score-matched study.

BACKGROUND: The optimal strategy for transitioning from long-term denosumab (DMAb) to teriparatide (TPTD) in postmenopausal osteoporosis remains a clinical dilemma, as DMAb withdrawal can trigger a deleterious rebound in bone resorption. While bone mineral density (BMD) is the traditional benchmark, it fails to capture critical aspects of bone quality, such as the bone marrow microenvironment. This study investigated whether the method of TPTD initiation-adding it to ongoing DMAb (combination) versus switching after DMAb withdrawal (sequential)-differentially affects the vertebral bone marrow

KLF6 regulates osteoclastogenesis through DUSP16 in OVX-induced bone loss.

Estrogen deficiency results in enhanced bone resorption by osteoclasts, a critical factor in the development of postmenopausal osteoporosis. This study investigates the regulatory role of KLF6 in osteoclast differentiation and evaluates its potential in reducing bone loss in ovariectomized (OVX) mice. The results show that the expression of KLF6 gradually decreases during osteoclast differentiation, and this decrease is more pronounced in the OVX model. Reducing the expression level of KLF6 can promote the differentiation of osteoclasts. Through RNA sequencing and ChIP analysis, we found that

Deoxycholic acid ameliorates postmenopausal osteoporosis by rebalancing BMSC differentiation and suppressing NF-κB signaling.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) represents a significant global health issue associated with aging, primarily driven by estrogen deficiency. Although the gut-bone axis has garnered increasing attention, the specific bioactive metabolites and molecular mechanisms linking gut dysbiosis to bone loss remain to be fully elucidated. In this study, we investigated the gut-bile acid-bone axis by integrating clinical data with mechanistic studies in an ovariectomized mouse model. Clinically, serum total bile acid levels were positively correlated with bone mineral density in PMOP patients. In ovarie

Effects of probiotic modulation on bone health in estrogen-deficient female Sprague-Dawley rats.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a common metabolic disorder caused mainly by estrogen deficiency, which accelerates bone resorption, suppresses bone formation, and increases fracture risk in aging women. Emerging evidence suggests that the gut microbiota influences skeletal homeostasis through the gut-bone axis, indicating that probiotic supplementation may provide a novel nutritional strategy for bone protection. This study evaluated the osteoprotective effects of two probiotic strains, Bifidobacterium breve i1088 and Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum i772, in an ovariectomized Sprague-Dawl
