Mechanically adaptive and self-healable conductive hydrogels through dynamic hydrophobic networking and nanofibrillar reinforcement for wearable bioelectronics.

Conductive and self-healable poly(acrylamide-co-stearyl methacrylate)@carboxylated cellulose nanofiber hydrogels were fabricated through one-pot free-radical polymerization within a dynamically associated polymer network. C-CNF incorporation strengthened the hydrogel through nanofibrillar reinforcement and hydrogen-bonding interactions, while StMA-derived hydrophobic associations formed within the DBSA-mediated micellar network provided reversible physical crosslinks. The C1.50% hydrogel exhibited a fracture stress of ∼260.4 kPa, fracture strain of ∼528.4%, and toughness of ∼78.2 kJ m-3, toget

In situ elastomer cutting: molecular insights from mechanophores.

In classic fracture mechanics, stress/strain concentration mediates the flow of energy toward the creation of new crack surfaces. However, the small scales and large deformations in this localized region make characterization challenging. Here, we visualize the deformation preceding a crack tip in an elastomeric material during fracture using the combination of reversible mechanophores and in situ cutting. Fluorescence intensity maps within tens of microns of the crack tip, which correlate to local deformation profiles, are made possible through Y-shaped cutting's ability to maintain fracture

Effect of connector dimensions and span length on fracture resistance of high-translucency 4Y-TZP: An in vitro and finite element study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: High-translucency 4-mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (4Y-TZP) has been increasingly used for implant-supported prostheses because of its superior esthetics, yet connector size recommendations have been derived from studies of stronger conventional 3-mol% Y-TZP. Whether these guidelines remain valid for materials with 30 to 40% lower flexural strength is unknown. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro and finite element study was to evaluate the effect of connector cross-sectional dimensions and span length on the fracture resistance of high-transluce

Silicate Biomaterials-Stimulated Vascularized Callus Organoids for Bone Tissue Regeneration.

Organoids that recapitulate native fracture callus can form spontaneous ossification centers within a bone defect, offering substantial promise for rapid bone regeneration. However, existing callus organoids generally lack a functional vascular network and an appropriate mechanical microenvironment, and their production limits scalability and uniformity. Here, we established a droplet-based microfluidic platform for the high-throughput generation of morphology-dependent magnesium silicate-engineered composite hydrogel microspheres, enabling the uniform construction of vascularized callus organ

Arthroscopic Reduction and Fixation of Impacted Humeral Head Reverse Hill-Sachs Fracture With Absorbable Anchors for Acute Traumatic Posterior Shoulder Dislocation.

A minimally invasive technique is presented for the treatment of acute traumatic posterior shoulder dislocation with a reverse Hill-Sachs lesion. Arthroscopic reduction was combined with internal fixation using 1 absorbable anchor. Under high-definition arthroscopic visualization, precise anatomical reduction of the impacted anteromedial humeral head compression fracture was achieved. Absorbable anchors were inserted into the subchondral bone defect beneath the reduced fragment. Initial stability was provided, and congruity of the articular surface is maintained. Compared with conventional app

Comparative Finite Element Analysis of Three Acetabular Plate Designs with Different Bridge Geometries.

BACKGROUND: Acetabular fractures are complex injuries of the hip joint. Careful design of fixation plates is crucial for achieving stable osteosynthesis, especially in patients with poor bone quality. Finite element analysis (FEA) is widely used for biomechanical evaluation of orthopedic implants. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to perform a comparative finite element analysis of three acetabular plate designs differing in bridge geometry and to identify the configuration with the most favourable biomechanical performance. We hypothesized that a plate with two parallel bridges would prov

Mechanical Testing and Computational Modeling of Scapula Fracture Implants: A Review.

This is the first review of mechanical testing or computational modeling articles that analyzed the biomechanical influence of parametrically changing scapula fracture implant (SFI) variables to optimize or characterize performance. PubMed and Embase were explored for articles using inclusion and exclusion criteria: (i) SFI articles that permutated implant variables were included, but articles using only one SFI configuration were excluded; (ii) SFIs comprising of plates (with screws), non-plate isolated "lag" screws, or cerclage wires were included, but anchors/sutures, bone cements, bone gra

Tibiotarsal mechanical behaviour is mainly a function of bone structure and not mineral density in female adolescent chickens.

INTRODUCTION: Bone fragility and disuse osteoporosis in commercial egg-laying chickens is a major welfare concern. Efforts to address this have focused on eliciting increases in bone mass during growth by raising chickens in more spacious and complex housing systems that motivate increased physical activity. However, it remains unclear how these bone adaptations influence in vivo bone mechanical behaviour in chickens, namely, whole-bone stiffness and strength. METHODS: To investigate this, we sampled female chickens of two genetic strains (Lohmann Brown: brown-feathered, Lohmann LSL Lite: whi

FAPI-negative Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma With Markedly FAPI-avid Sacral Insufficiency Fracture.

We report a 77-year-old woman with papillary renal cell carcinoma showing no increased [ 68 Ga]Ga-FAPI uptake in the primary tumor, while intense sacral FAPI uptake mimicked bone metastasis. MRI findings and 2-year follow-up supported a sacral insufficiency fracture without metastatic disease. This case highlights fracture-related FAPI uptake as an important oncologic imaging pitfall.

Non-coding RNAs regulating autophagy in Osteoporosis: mechanistic insights and therapeutic potential.

Osteoporosis (OP) is a systemic skeletal disease, defined by low bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone, which increases the risk of fragility fractures. Autophagy is a dynamic and evolutionarily conserved process that regulates the degradation and recycling of cellular proteins and organelles in response to various physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Autophagy is a major stress-response pathway and it is critically involved in regulating the metabolic and homeostatic functions of bone cells. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are a diverse group of RNAs that do not code for

Oxidative Stress in Neonatal Disease: Established Organ Injury and Emerging Evidence for Skeletal Involvement.

Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species participate in physiological signaling and adaptation during fetal and neonatal development, whereas excessive, prolonged, or spatially dysregulated production may contribute to oxidative and nitrosative tissue injury. Redox dysregulation has been extensively investigated in neonatal conditions, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), congenital heart disease (CHD), and hyperbilirubinemia. Its relationship with bone metabolism is well established in adult

Case Report: Electrical impedance tomography-guided ultra-protective lung ventilation during veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support for fat embolism syndrome complicated by severe acute respiratory distress syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is a rare complication of severe multiple trauma. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a noninvasive, real-time, bedside tool for monitoring regional pulmonary ventilation. Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) may improve outcomes in critically ill patients in whom conventional mechanical ventilation fails. Ultra-protective lung ventilation strategy (ULPVS) uses very low tidal volumes to markedly reduce lung stress and mitigate ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI). Multiscale Pore-Fracture Reconstruction and Seepability Enhancement of Coal by Hydraulic Fracturing: A Field-Laboratory Integrated Investigation.

Clarifying the transformation mechanism of hydraulic fracturing on coal-rock pore-fracture structures and the associated seepage response is fundamental to the efficient development of low-permeability coalbed methane reservoirs. However, existing studies are hindered by a disconnect between field observations and laboratory evaluations, and the use of single characterization methods fails to capture the full-scale pore structures. To address these limitations, this study establishes a novel multiscale comparative framework that integrates primary coal, field-fractured coal, and laboratory-sim

All Arthroscopic Decompression and Bone Grafting of Cyst in the Talus.

INTRODUCTION: A talar cyst is a fluid-filled sac in the talus bone, often caused by chronic stress fractures or traumatic injuries. A talar cyst if left untreated can result in chondromalacia of talus cartilage and ultimately arthritis. A timely intervention of cyst can have very good prognosis. An open cyst decompression and bone grafting is a standard procedure followed, but it is more invasive and sometimes involves medial malleolus osteotomy. If the same is done by arthroscopy, the morbidity of open procedure can be avoided. CASE REPORT: A 34-year-old male complaining of pain in the ankle

Bone health in diabetes mellitus.

Bone health depends on a complex interplay between cellular and extracellular components that together preserve skeletal integrity, microarchitecture, and mechanical strength. Disturbance of this balance in a range of pathophysiological states, particularly in diseases such as diabetes mellitus, may substantially impair bone quality, delay fracture healing, and increase fracture risk. This review summarizes the main mechanisms linking diabetes and bone health, with emphasis on advanced glycation, oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, hormonal and osteoimmune dysregulation, microvascular impa

Novel Technique to Enhance Hydraulic Fracture Permeability by Controllable Biomimetic Mineralization: Transitioning from Liquid Injection to Solid Propping.

Unconventional oil and gas have been playing an increasingly important role in the global energy market. The primary development technique for shale and tight reservoirs is hydraulic fracturing, which aims to create high-permeability channels propped by quartz sand or ceramsite, enabling oil and gas to flow out smoothly and steadily. However, during the transportation of the fracturing fluid, proppants continuously settle, leaving narrow fractures and the distal end unsupported. These are critical zones, where conductivity loss severely limits production efficiency. To address this challenge,

Staged external fixation and dorsal mini-plate fixation for a distal radius fracture with an overlying volar burn.

Burns combined with fractures are uncommon and become particularly challenging when the burn overlies the surgical corridor. We report a 51-year-old woman with an intra-articular distal radius fracture and an overlying deep volar ulnar wrist burn (deep partial-thickness to full-thickness) after jumping from a second floor during a house fire. A spanning external fixator was applied through unburned skin on the day of injury while the burn was managed conservatively by plastic surgeons. Ten days later, definitive fixation was performed through an intact dorsal approach with articular reduction,

Stress-Related Acromion Base Fracture after Clavicular Hook Plate Fixation: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Clavicular hook plate fixation is widely used for the surgical management of high-grade acromioclavicular (AC) joint injuries and generally provides reliable clinical outcomes. Nevertheless, implant-related complications involving the acromion have been reported. Stress-related fractures at the base of the acromion following hook plate fixation are extremely rare and remain poorly described in the literature. CASE REPORT: A 48-year-old woman sustained a high-grade AC joint injury and underwent open reduction and internal fixation with a clavicular hook plate. Two months after su
