Oxidative Stress in Neonatal Disease: Established Organ Injury and Emerging Evidence for Skeletal Involvement.

Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species participate in physiological signaling and adaptation during fetal and neonatal development, whereas excessive, prolonged, or spatially dysregulated production may contribute to oxidative and nitrosative tissue injury. Redox dysregulation has been extensively investigated in neonatal conditions, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), congenital heart disease (CHD), and hyperbilirubinemia. Its relationship with bone metabolism is well established in adult

Case Report: Electrical impedance tomography-guided ultra-protective lung ventilation during veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support for fat embolism syndrome complicated by severe acute respiratory distress syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is a rare complication of severe multiple trauma. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a noninvasive, real-time, bedside tool for monitoring regional pulmonary ventilation. Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) may improve outcomes in critically ill patients in whom conventional mechanical ventilation fails. Ultra-protective lung ventilation strategy (ULPVS) uses very low tidal volumes to markedly reduce lung stress and mitigate ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI). CASE PRESENTATION: In June 2025, a 57-year-old woman was admitt

Multiscale Pore-Fracture Reconstruction and Seepability Enhancement of Coal by Hydraulic Fracturing: A Field-Laboratory Integrated Investigation.

Clarifying the transformation mechanism of hydraulic fracturing on coal-rock pore-fracture structures and the associated seepage response is fundamental to the efficient development of low-permeability coalbed methane reservoirs. However, existing studies are hindered by a disconnect between field observations and laboratory evaluations, and the use of single characterization methods fails to capture the full-scale pore structures. To address these limitations, this study establishes a novel multiscale comparative framework that integrates primary coal, field-fractured coal, and laboratory-sim

All Arthroscopic Decompression and Bone Grafting of Cyst in the Talus.

INTRODUCTION: A talar cyst is a fluid-filled sac in the talus bone, often caused by chronic stress fractures or traumatic injuries. A talar cyst if left untreated can result in chondromalacia of talus cartilage and ultimately arthritis. A timely intervention of cyst can have very good prognosis. An open cyst decompression and bone grafting is a standard procedure followed, but it is more invasive and sometimes involves medial malleolus osteotomy. If the same is done by arthroscopy, the morbidity of open procedure can be avoided. CASE REPORT: A 34-year-old male complaining of pain in the ankle

Bone health in diabetes mellitus.

Bone health depends on a complex interplay between cellular and extracellular components that together preserve skeletal integrity, microarchitecture, and mechanical strength. Disturbance of this balance in a range of pathophysiological states, particularly in diseases such as diabetes mellitus, may substantially impair bone quality, delay fracture healing, and increase fracture risk. This review summarizes the main mechanisms linking diabetes and bone health, with emphasis on advanced glycation, oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, hormonal and osteoimmune dysregulation, microvascular impa

Novel Technique to Enhance Hydraulic Fracture Permeability by Controllable Biomimetic Mineralization: Transitioning from Liquid Injection to Solid Propping.

Unconventional oil and gas have been playing an increasingly important role in the global energy market. The primary development technique for shale and tight reservoirs is hydraulic fracturing, which aims to create high-permeability channels propped by quartz sand or ceramsite, enabling oil and gas to flow out smoothly and steadily. However, during the transportation of the fracturing fluid, proppants continuously settle, leaving narrow fractures and the distal end unsupported. These are critical zones, where conductivity loss severely limits production efficiency. To address this challenge,

Staged external fixation and dorsal mini-plate fixation for a distal radius fracture with an overlying volar burn.

Burns combined with fractures are uncommon and become particularly challenging when the burn overlies the surgical corridor. We report a 51-year-old woman with an intra-articular distal radius fracture and an overlying deep volar ulnar wrist burn (deep partial-thickness to full-thickness) after jumping from a second floor during a house fire. A spanning external fixator was applied through unburned skin on the day of injury while the burn was managed conservatively by plastic surgeons. Ten days later, definitive fixation was performed through an intact dorsal approach with articular reduction,

Stress-Related Acromion Base Fracture after Clavicular Hook Plate Fixation: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Clavicular hook plate fixation is widely used for the surgical management of high-grade acromioclavicular (AC) joint injuries and generally provides reliable clinical outcomes. Nevertheless, implant-related complications involving the acromion have been reported. Stress-related fractures at the base of the acromion following hook plate fixation are extremely rare and remain poorly described in the literature. CASE REPORT: A 48-year-old woman sustained a high-grade AC joint injury and underwent open reduction and internal fixation with a clavicular hook plate. Two months after su

Higher femoral periprosthetic fracture rate with dual-mobility compared with single-mobility total hip arthroplasty : a retrospective propensity-matched study of 780 uncemented hips.

AIMS: Dual-mobility implants have reduced dislocation rates in total hip arthroplasty (THA), particularly in high-risk populations. However, under conditions of high stress, such as a fall or forced range of motion, the energy that would otherwise cause dislocation is instead transmitted distally along the femoral component and into the surrounding bone. Therefore, concerns remain regarding their potential impact on the risk of periprosthetic fracture (PPF). METHODS: In a single-centre study, we retrospectively analyzed 1,415 patients who underwent uncemented THA with either a dual-mobility (

Experimental Study of Supercritical CO2 Dual-Well Fracturing under the Effects of High Temperatures and In Situ Stress Differentials.

Supercritical CO2 (SC-CO2) dual-well fracturing is a key technology for the development of deep tight reservoirs, where fracture propagation is predominantly influenced by the coupled effects of high temperature and in situ stress. To address the lack of systematic experimental investigations under high-temperature conditions up to 200 °C and true triaxial stress states, this study conducts sequential dual-well fracturing experiments on artificial tight sandstone samples under combined high-temperature and differential horizontal stress conditions using a true triaxial loading system. Frailty, fragility fractures and healthy aging: turning challenges into opportunities.

Advancements occurred in the last century have gradually extended human lifespan. However, increased lifespan does not necessarily coincide with an equivalent extension of healthy life expectancy. The increasing gap of years between healthy and unhealthy life challenges individual aspirations for a meaningful longevity and strains the sustainability of health and social care systems. Aging remains the main risk factor for diseases, and comorbidity does not fully account for the disparities between healthy and unhealthy life expectancy. Moreover, disease-modifying and healthcare interventions r

Stent-Graft Fracture 18 Years After Hybrid Repair of Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm: A Possible Risk of Retrograde Reconstruction.

We report the case of a patient who underwent hybrid repair for a type V thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm. The procedure ensured durable aneurysm exclusion and visceral perfusion for 18 years. Eighteen years after surgery, the stent-graft fractured occurred at the visceral artery segment. Fluid-structure interaction analysis revealed a progressive elevation of von Mises stress at the eventual fracture site. Compared with in situ reconstruction, retrograde reconstruction in hybrid repair may increase the risk of stent-related complications. Monitoring von Mises stress during follow-up may help

Robust Non-Invasive Monitoring of Cumulative Tibia Load in Male Recreational Runners Using Multi-Modal Wearables and Deep Learning.

Tibial stress fractures are overuse injuries in runners and are associated with cumulative internal bone stress. Current wearable devices usually measure external biomechanical loads rather than tissue-level stress within the tibia. We developed and evaluated a wearable-sensor-based surrogate model for reconstructing the temporal evolution of tibial bone stress in healthy male recreational runners, using participant-specific dynamic finite element analysis (FEA) as the supervision source. Dynamic FEA-derived stress fields from 50 male runners, with heterogeneous and orthotropic material proper

Investigation for the cause of vial breakage during frozen storage of nucleic acid drug solution and the effect of the internal coating on the vial strain.

Vial breakage has been observed in nucleic acid drug solutions after deep-freezer storage, representing a critical quality concern in pharmaceutical manufacturing. This study aimed to investigate the cause underlying this phenomenon. Visual observation of reference vials revealed the "plugging off" phenomenon, defined as the instantaneous separation of the frozen drug matrix from the vial inner surface, which simultaneously induced vial breakage. Differential scanning calorimetry showed no crystallization peak during the freeze-thaw cycles, indicating that crystallization was not the cause. Th

The effect of different CAD/CAM materials and thickness on the immediate load-bearing capacity of occlusal veneers.

OBJECTIVES: Minimally invasive occlusal veneers fabricated from ceramic and resin-based materials have gained increasing popularity in recent years. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different CAD/CAM materials and restoration thicknesses on the immediate load-bearing capacity of occlusal veneers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 100 human mandibular molars were prepared for occlusal veneers with a 1-mm circumferential rounded chamfer finish line. A preparation height of 1.5 mm extending from the preparation margin to the occlusal plane was created. The teeth were divided i

Sacrificial Coating-Assisted Deformation Regulation in GO-Coated Kevlar Structures under Dynamic Bending.

Kevlar-based flexible protective materials exhibit excellent tensile deformability and energy-dissipation capability under impact loading. However, under dynamic bending, the deformation response of Kevlar gradually evolves from distributed deformation toward highly localized structural failure with increasing loading velocity, which severely limits its resistance against catastrophic perforation. In this work, graphene oxide (GO) multilayer coatings were introduced onto Kevlar structures to regulate deformation localization and improve their dynamic bending tolerance. Molecular dynamics (MD)

Stem cell senescence as a regenerative bottleneck in age-related skeletal degeneration: Mechanistic crosstalk and translational strategies.

Skeletal degeneration is a major cause of pain, disability, fragility fracture, and loss of independence in aging populations. Although osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and intervertebral disc degeneration are usually managed as anatomically separate disorders, they share a common regenerative failure: endogenous stem and progenitor cells lose renewal capacity, acquire inflammatory secretory programs, and become less able to rebuild damaged matrix. This narrative review synthesizes evidence on senescence in bone marrow mesenchymal stem/stromal cells, skeletal stem cells, hematopoietic stem cells,

Comparison of fracture resistance of ceramic crowns supported by different abutment types.

This study aimed to compare the fracture resistance of monolithic zirconia crowns and lithium disilicate crowns cemented on multi-unit, Ti-base and titanium copings on multi-unit abutments. 66 dental implants were embedded in auto-polymerizing acrylic resin. Three different types of abutments were used: Ti-base, multi-unit, and titanium coping abutments on multi-unit bases (n = 22/group). The specimens were subgrouped according to two different restorative materials: monolithic zirconia and lithium disilicate (n = 11/group). All of the crowns were screw-retained and the screws were tightened t
