INTRODUCTION: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are benign but locally aggressive osteolytic lesions characterized by blood-filled cystic spaces separated by fibrous septa containing osteoclast-like giant cells and reactive bone. Although commonly affecting the metaphysis of long bones in children and adolescents, ABCs may occur in atypical anatomical locations, creating diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The aim of this study was to review the demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, radiological and histopathological features, diagnostic challenges, and current management strategie

Recurrent USP6 gene rearrangements underlie a subset of mesenchymal neoplasms, including nodular fasciitis and aneurysmal bone cyst. These rearrangements place USP6 under the regulatory control of another gene's constitutively active promoter, resulting in USP6 overexpression. Recently, it has been demonstrated in a limited number of cases that detection of USP6 overexpression by RNA chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) can serve as a surrogate marker for USP6-rearranged tumors. To further assess the diagnostic utility of USP6 RNA CISH, we evaluated its application in 1210 bone and soft ti

OBJECTIVES: Zygomatic aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are rare lesions that may lead to significant intraoperative bleeding. Although preoperative selective arterial embolization (SAE) is often recommended for hemorrhage control, it may not always be feasible. This report explores intraoperative external carotid artery (ECA) ligation as a potential alternative.
METHODS: A 30-year-old female with a 4×3×3 cm hypervascular ABC of the zygomatic arch underwent surgical excision under general anesthesia. Intraoperative proximal ECA ligation was performed to control bleeding. A review of the literature

BACKGROUND: Simple bone cysts are benign cystic bone lesions that occur predominantly in children and adolescents, although they might occur in all ages. Previous studies have described clinical features and treatment options; however, large-scale epidemiological data from Japan are limited. We aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics, anatomical distribution, diagnostic patterns, and initial treatment tendencies of simple bone cysts in Japan using data from the Japanese Bone and Soft Tissue Tumor (BSTT) registry and a nationwide institutional survey.
METHODS: We performed a retrospe

PURPOSE: Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors (PMTs) are exceptionally rare neoplasms that secrete fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), leading to tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO). Owing to their nonspecific clinical manifestations and deceptively bland morphology, diagnosis is frequently delayed unless there is a high index of clinical suspicion or recognition of characteristic histopathological features. While PMTs predominantly arise in the appendicular skeleton, involvement of the sinonasal tract is uncommon, and pediatric sinonasal PMTs have not been reported previously. Although most PMTs fol

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Multilevel en bloc spondylectomy (MES) for thoracic spinal tumors occasionally requires combined resection of ribs and parietal pleura, resulting in a large posterolateral chest wall defect adjacent to posterior instrumentation and a vertebral body cage. If unreconstructed, lung may herniate through the defect, and intrathoracic contents may migrate toward implants and neural elements. Our objective was to describe a simple, reproducible rod-suspended "hammock" reconstruction using expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) for extensive posterolateral chest wall defec

BACKGROUND: Fluoride is protective against dental caries, but chronic overexposure causes dental and skeletal fluorosis and has been associated with neurological, endocrine, and renal effects. Jordan has endemic fluorosis, with dental fluorosis affecting 40%-70% of residents in several regions, yet no study has examined whether its future clinicians are prepared to recognize and manage fluoride toxicity. We assessed the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of medical and dental students regarding fluoride exposure.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 583 medical and dental students w

Subperiosteal lesions encompass traumatic, infectious, benign neoplastic, and malignant processes arising between the periosteum and the underlying cortex. Because the periosteum is more loosely adherent in children and young adults, several entities are encountered more often in paediatric populations. Accurate diagnosis requires integration of imaging characteristics such as lesion location, composition and cortical response, and relevant clinical context. This imaging-focused review discusses subperiosteal haematoma, abscess, ganglion, osteoid osteoma, osteoblastoma, aneurysmal bone cyst, l

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the histopathological and clinical characteristics of chondroblastomas (CBs), with particular emphasis on the correlation between local invasion and mitotic activity, cytological atypia, and recurrence.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 26 cases of CB diagnosed between 2016 and 2024 and pathologically evaluated at a tertiary oncology center, with surgical procedures performed across 2 tertiary oncology referral centers. Clinical, radiological, and histopathological data were reviewed. For comparative analysis, tumors were grouped as non-in

Glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) is a rare odontogenic cyst characterized by distinctive epithelial features and is known for its potential for local aggressiveness and recurrence. Because its clinical presentation and imaging characteristics substantially overlap with those of other odontogenic cysts and tumors, establishing a preoperative diagnosis is often challenging, and a definitive diagnosis relies on histopathological evaluation. We report the case of a 46-year-old man in whom panoramic radiography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) failed to yield diagnost

Resection of the distal-third of the fibula for tumor may improve important static troubles of the ankle. The authors report an original technique which permits to benefit to osteogenic ability of periosteum to produce new bone in children and teenagers. This technique avoids to take out autograft and permits a complete regeneration of the fibula, using a "lift" procedure. It can be also used when a large bone graft has to be taken in the medial-third of the fibula and when the periosteum is separable enough to be completely preserved.

BACKGROUND: Benign bone tumors represent a heterogeneous group of nonmalignant lesions often treated surgically when symptomatic or at risk of fracture. Although local recurrence is a recognized risk, comparative data on recurrence timing and presentation across histologies are limited, contributing to the lack of standardized surveillance. We aimed to examine locally recurrent benign bone tumors after surgery to define recurrence patterns by histology.
METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study of 329 curative-intent procedures for benign bone tumors at the University o

Study DesignRetrospective Cohort Study.ObjectivesTherapeutic strategies for Aneurysmal Bone Cysts (ABCs) of the spine remain controversial and encompass several modalities, including open surgery (ie, intralesional curettage and/or en bloc resection), localized injections, and pharmacotherapy. This study was designed to retrospectively analyze the clinical data from patients treated at our institution, with the objective of evaluating the clinical outcomes, safety profile, and efficacy of different treatments including open surgery, percutaneous injections of a doxycycline-albumin suspension,

BACKGROUND: Lumbosacral pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint that is typically mechanical in nature. However, rare conditions such as osteoblastoma can mimic benign spinal pain, leading to diagnostic delays and protracted care.
CASE PRESENTATION: An 18-year-old male college student presented to physical therapy, via direct access, with persistent right-sided lumbosacral pain of 6 weeks. His pain worsened with general activity and lying supine. Clinical examination was pathognomonic of sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction, and clinical guidelines did not indicate a need for imaging. Four we

INTRODUCTION: Chondroblastomas (CB) are rare benign cartilaginous tumors (1%) arising from secondary ossification centers in epiphysis of long bones, commonly the proximal humerus. They commonly occur in the 2nd decade of life and have a male predilection. The occurrence of these tumors in the patella is extremely rare (<2%).
CASE REPORT: A 16-year-old male presented with knee pain since 2 months, which aggravated with activities. Radiographic evaluation showed an osteolytic lesion along the superolateral pole of patella, which was hypointense on T1 and hyperintense on T2 along with multiple

PURPOSE: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are benign but locally aggressive osteolytic lesions. In pediatric patients, cranial involvement is uncommon, and the temporal bone (TB) represents an exceptionally rare site of disease. Owing to their behaviour and proximity to critical neurovascular structures, the diagnosis and management of TB-ABCs remain particularly challenging for both neurosurgeons and otolaryngologists.
METHODS: We report a case of primary TB-ABC in a 3-month-old infant, managed using a stepwise multimodal strategy including preoperative embolization and Denosumab administration

Osteosarcoma of the calvarium is extremely rare, specifically of the telangiectatic subtype, which has few reported cases. Herein, we report a case of telangiectatic osteosarcoma occurring in the frontal bone of a 33-year-old man without notable family or medical history. The patient presented with a painless mass in the frontal region, and computed tomography (CT) imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a tumor destructively involving the inner and outer tables of the skull. On T1- and T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images, the tumor exhibited an isointense signal
