Long-term excessive fluoride ingestion may lead to skeletal fluorosis, a disease characterized by unclear pathogenesis and lack of effective cure. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (BMSCs-EVs) exert a crucial regulatory effect on bone remodeling and have broad clinical application prospects. Whether BMSCs-EVs can participate in the occurrence and development of skeletal fluorosis by transferring miRNAs is a scientific question worth exploring. In this study, miRNA sequencing was used to screen for differentially expressed miRNAs in fluoride-exposed rBMSCs-EVs (F-

Fluoride (F-) contamination of groundwater remains a significant health risk in Nigeria, affecting rural and urban communities. This study examines the spatial distribution and factors influencing F- levels using a weighted ensemble machine learning model to forecast high-risk areas and estimate exposed populations. The primary factor controlling geogenic F- is the aquifer lithology, with the highest F- levels found in groundwater from crystalline basement complexes and sedimentary sandstones. The problem is exacerbated in dry regions, including semiarid and arid zones, where evaporation rates

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: MRI of the sacroiliac joints (SIJ) is frequently performed in diagnostic workup of axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), especially to detect not only early active inflammatory changes but also structural changes. The presence of subchondral bone marrow edema (BME) is an important early sign of sacroiliitis, but can also occur in many other conditions, whereas structural changes, especially erosions, are more specific axSpA features. The purpose of this review is to describe and illustrate MRI features of the most common conditions in adults that can mimic axSpA sacroiliitis.

OBJECTIVES: First metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint osteoarthritis (OA) is a common and disabling foot condition, but the relationship between localised joint changes with pain severity is poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the association between joint changes on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with pain severity in individuals with first MTP joint OA.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study used baseline data from 80 participants aged 36 to 74 years (mean [SD] = 57.5 [8.8]) with first MTP joint OA enrolled in two randomised trials. MRI atlas features assessed included osteophytes

INTRODUCTION: Giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is a rare but locally aggressive neoplasm which most commonly arises in the epiphyses of long bones of young adults. Occurrence in the mandible is uncommon, and hormone secreting variants are extremely rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 16-year-old female, who presented with progressive swelling and pain in the left mandible after extraction of adjacent teeth. On examination, she had a large ulcerated intraoral mass with marked tooth mobility; imaging revealed a 4.7-cm expansive lytic lesion with cortical erosions and displacement o

Fluoride-induced osteoarthritis (F-OA) is a debilitating manifestation of endemic fluorosis, with limited preventive or therapeutic strategies. Rosa roxburghii juice (RRJ), a traditional medicinal/edible product, has shown protective effects against skeletal fluorosis, yet its active constituents and molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study, an integrated strategy combining bioinformatics analysis, network pharmacology, molecular docking and dynamics simulations, limited proteolysis-mass spectrometry (LiP-MS), and in vitro experiments was employed to systematically elucidat

An intraosseous pneumatocyst is a gas-containing cystic bone lesion that is not associated with infection or bone necrosis due to vertebral compression fracture. The most common sites are the pelvis and spine, but it is reported rarely in other sites. To our knowledge, only two cases of intraosseous pneumatocyst in the scapula have been reported. Herein, we report two cases of intraosseous pneumatocyst of the scapula, in a 41-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man. Neither patient had shoulder symptoms, and the lesions were found incidentally during imaging studies. Plain X-rays revealed cystic

Simple bone cysts are intraosseous cavities that are surrounded by bony walls, and they are either empty or contain liquid and/or connective tissue. They have similar radiological findings to those of true cysts, but they do not have an epithelial lining and are thus regarded as pseudocysts. They are frequently asymptomatic and most often an incidental finding on radiographic examination. The purpose of this case report is to present a rare case of bilateral occurrence of mandibular simple bone cysts. A 23-year-old female patient presented to the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology of t

Thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDCs) are among the most common congenital anomalies of the neck, typically presenting as painless midline masses inferior to the hyoid bone. Distinguishing TGDCs from other cystic neck lesions, such as ranulas or dermoid cysts, can be challenging, particularly when they arise in uncommon locations such as the sublingual space. Here, we report an atypical presentation of a TGDC in the sublingual space of a 31-year-old Hispanic/Latino White male. The patient, with no significant medical history, presented to the emergency department at the University of California San

Background and Clinical Significance: Vascular lesions of the face, particularly arteriovenous malformations (AVM) and mixed hemangiomas (MH), pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges because of their complex anatomy, unpredictable behavior, and high risk of bleeding. Surgical planning should be individualized and often requires a staged approach with meticulous interdisciplinary coordination to ensure patient safety. The presence of a concomitant odontogenic infection further complicates management, as local inflammation may exacerbate vascular instability and increase the risk

Cystic lesions of the anterior mandible in young adults present a diagnostic challenge owing to the overlapping clinical and radiographic features of odontogenic keratocysts, unicystic ameloblastomas, central giant cell lesions, and traumatic bone cysts. A 25-year-old man presented with localized pain and swelling of the anterior mandible. The left mandibular first premolar was nonvital, and panoramic radiography revealed a 2 × 3 cm well-defined radiolucent lesion with sclerotic, scalloped margins and associated external root resorption. Fine-needle aspiration cytology did not yield any fluid
