Simple Bone Cyst: A Report of a Rare Case.

A simple bone cyst is an uncommon non-neoplastic intraosseous pseudocyst in the human jawbone. Because it lacks an epithelial lining, we refer to such a cyst as a pseudocyst. For simple bone cysts, several other names exist, such as traumatic bone cyst, solitary bone cyst, progressive bone cavity, hemorrhagic bone cyst, unicameral bone cyst, and extravasation cyst. Usually, routine radiographic examinations discover these cysts, which otherwise are asymptomatic. Unicameral bone cysts tend to gradually increase in size and enlarge along the long axis of the mandibular alveolar bone, causing no

Florid Cemento-Osseous Dysplasia and Simple Bone Cyst Association: Co-Occurrence or Evolution of the Disease? Two Case Reports and Literature Review.

OBJECTIVES: Cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD) is the most common benign fibro-osseous lesion of the jaws, typically asymptomatic and identified through characteristic radiographic features. However, its rare association with simple bone cysts (SBCs) can significantly alter its presentation, mimicking more aggressive jaw lesions. This study aims to report additional cases of COD-associated SBCs and to review the literature to evaluate whether such lesions may represent a specific manifestation of the COD spectrum. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two cases of florid COD with atypical radiolucencies were d

Solitary bone cyst in a 57-year-old woman - A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Solitary Bone Cysts (SBC) are rare, benign cystic lesions typically found in long bones in children and adolescents. Diagnosis is primarily made through X-ray and other radiological methods. Treatment options vary from observation to surgical procedures depending on each case. This case highlights the importance of recognizing SBC as a potential cause of mild skeletal discomfort in older patients, even in atypical locations. CASE PRESENTATION: This paper documents the case of a 57-year-old woman with a SBC in her proximal tibia with minimal symptoms. Diagnosis was made based on

Identification of EWSR1-NFATC2 fusion in simple bone cysts.

AIMS: Simple bone cysts are benign intramedullary tumours primarily involving the long bones in skeletally immature individuals. Several mechanisms have been proposed for their pathogenesis. Although the diagnosis is typically straightforward, the interpretation can be problematic, because of superimposed fracture causing them to resemble aneurysmal bone cysts and other tumours. EWSR1-NFATC2 or FUS-NFATC2 fusions, which are characteristic of a subset of aggressive round cell sarcomas, have been recently detected in simple bone cysts. The aim of this study was to examine the clinicopathological

Current strategies for the treatment of solitary and aneurysmal bone cysts: A review of the literature.

This review of the literature aims to compare the etiology, the pathogenesis, the clinical diagnostics and the relevant treatment options of two different types of cystic bone lesions: the solitary bone cyst (SBC) and the aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC). Whereas the clinical symptoms and the radiographic appearance can be similar, the diagnostic pathway and the treatment options are clearly different. The solitary bone cyst (SBC) represents a tumor-like bone lesion, occurring most frequently in the humerus and femur in children and adolescents. Pain caused by intercurrent pathological fractures is

Pathological fracture of a solitary bone cyst in the calcaneus: a case series and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Solitary bone cysts in the calcaneus (calcaneal bone cysts) are often asymptomatic. Pathological fractures are rare, and few reports are available concerning its risk assessment. Therefore, the indication for operative interventions remains debatable, and further discussion on the treatment of symptomatic cysts and pathological fractures in calcaneal bone cysts is necessary. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinical data of 21 patients with calcaneal bone cysts (16 men and five women) was retrospectively reviewed. The average age was 13.3 (range, 7-23) years. Clinical data, such as concer

A large maxillary cemento-ossifying fibroma superimposed with solitary bone cyst documented over 18 years: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Cemento-ossifying fibromas are rare, benign lesions of the head and neck regions. The origin of these lesions can be traced to the periodontal ligament, because its cells are able to form cement, lamellar bone, or fibrous tissue. CASE PRESENTATION: A rare case report of a young Caucasian female with a COF is described including follow-ups. She remained untreated for several years despite early radiographic findings of the lesion without a definitive diagnosis. The patient ultimately underwent radical surgery and the whole lesion was removed. The subsequent histological examinati

[Tumor-like bony lesions of the skeleton].

Tumor-like bony lesions are, by definition bony lesions, which can be clinically, radiologically and histologically mistaken for real bone tumors. This article presents the aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC), solitary bone cyst (SBC), fibrous dysplasia, osteofibrous dysplasia Campanacci and non-ossifying fibroma (NOF). Many tumor-like bony lesions are often incidental findings. The combination of X‑ray imaging specifically supplemented by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) enables a diagnostic classification in the majority of cases.

Concomitant cemento-osseous dysplasia and aneurysmal bone cyst of the mandible: a rare case report with literature review.

BACKGROUND: Concomitant cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD) and aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) are rare in the head and neck region. In our search of the English language literature, we found only one case report describing the simultaneous occurrence of COD and ABC in the head and neck region. Here, we report a case of COD associated with ABC. Further, we performed a systematic search of the literature to identify studies on patients with COD associated with nonepithelial lined cysts of the jaws. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was a 32-year-old woman who was referred from a private dental clinic bec

Single-stage 360° Reconstruction in a Case of Solitary Vertebral Plasmacytoma of L3 vertebra - A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign intraosseous lesion, usually seen before the age of 20 years and is a lesion filled with blood cavities causing a blowout distension of the bone. It constitutes to about 1% of benign bone tumors. Although benign, a large lesion is liable to develop pathological fracture, so needs prompt addressal. Surgical resection or curettage in large lesions can lead to bone defects, deformities, and even functional abnormalities, especially in children.
