An aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is classified as a benign osteoclastic giant cell-rich tumour. We report a case of a 48-year-old male patient with a solid variant ABC involving the trapezoid bone. We chose to fill the defect with bone cement after curettage. At the 12-month follow-up, the patient remained recurrence-free with satisfactory hand function. Carpal bone tumours are rare and typically benign, with malignant and metastatic lesions being extremely uncommon. We were unable to find any other reports of a solid variant ABC in the trapezoid bone. This case highlights the importance of histo

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Giant cell tumor (GCT) of bone rarely involves the metacarpal bones. Secondary aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) changes arising in association with GCT create distinct diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in this uncommon skeletal location.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 21-year-old right-hand-dominant female presented with progressive right fourth metacarpal pain and swelling following minor trauma. Radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated an expansile osteolytic lesion with cortical thinning and internal fluid-fluid levels suggesting GCT with secondary ABC

BACKGROUND: Primary bone tumors of the spine are rare causes of spinal symptoms and often present with nonspecific clinical findings. Reliable differentiation from degenerative or inflammatory conditions is usually only possible by imaging. Precise anatomical compartment allocation as well as the combination of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) are essential for diagnosis.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this review is to provide an overview of primary benign and malignant bone tumors of the spine, focusing on their imaging characteristics and differential diagnostic feature

INTRODUCTION: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) of the cervical spine in children are rare, locally aggressive lesions that may compromise spinal stability. Atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation (AARS) is an uncommon association and is typically related to trauma or infection. The coexistence of ABC with AARS, particularly with recurrence of instability after tumor resolution, is extremely rare and presents unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
CASE REPORT: An 8-year-old boy presented with progressive neck pain and torticollis without a history of trauma or infection. Imaging revealed an expan

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are benign but locally aggressive osteolytic lesions that are rarely reported in dogs and may progress or recur following surgical treatment. This case report describes the diagnosis, surgical management, postoperative progression, and long-term outcome of an ABC affecting the left ulna of a four-month-old Labrador Retriever. Radiography and computed tomography revealed a rapidly progressive, expansile osteolytic lesion with marked cortical thinning. Histopathological examination supported the diagnosis of ABC, with no evidence of malignancy. Initial treatment cons

Fibrous dysplasia is one of the most common skeletal lesions. The wide spectrum of clinical manifestations ranges from asymptomatic conditions (typical of monostotic forms) to severe skeletal diseases with deformity and fractures for polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. The classical radiological features include: an osteolytic geographic pattern, ground-glass bone matrix, cortical thinning/cortical scalloping, bone deformities and enlargement, concavity of margins (evaluated with MRI), and cystic areas (MRI). All the bones can be affected, and the proximal femur is the most common one (about 30% of

Xanthogranulomatous epithelial tumour (XGET) is a recently described, rare mesenchymal neoplasm characterized by a HMGA2::NCOR2 gene fusion. We report a case of primary intraosseous XGET in the calcaneus of a 32-year-old female presenting with a 10-month history of heel pain. Initial differential diagnosis based on imaging features of the lytic calcaneal lesion included giant cell tumour of bone (GCTB) and solid aneurysmal bone cyst (sABC). Histopathology revealed a bland appearing lesion with xanthomatous histiocytes and giant cells, but immunohistochemistry showed diffuse cytokeratin positiv

BACKGROUND: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are benign yet locally aggressive lesions that can cause significant bone destruction. Involvement of the coracoid process is exceedingly rare, and the diagnosis is particularly challenging due to its atypical presentation.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 37-year-old male with right shoulder pain initially attributed to calcific tendinitis. Advanced imaging incidentally revealed an asymptomatic ABC of the coracoid process. Surgical management involved intralesional curettage and cavity filling with a biphasic calcium sulfate-hydroxyapatite b

INTRODUCTION: Giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is a rare but locally aggressive neoplasm which most commonly arises in the epiphyses of long bones of young adults. Occurrence in the mandible is uncommon, and hormone secreting variants are extremely rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 16-year-old female, who presented with progressive swelling and pain in the left mandible after extraction of adjacent teeth. On examination, she had a large ulcerated intraoral mass with marked tooth mobility; imaging revealed a 4.7-cm expansive lytic lesion with cortical erosions and displacement o

Recurrent aneurysmal bone cysts of the jaw present significant therapeutic challenges. This case suggests that fibrin sealant combined with demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft, as an adjunct to curettage, may offer a conservative option in selected young patients after failure of conventional therapies. Further studies are needed.

In the 5th edition World Health Organisation (WHO) classification of head and neck tumours, lesions that are distinctive in the jaws for reasons of presentation, behaviour or molecular changes are separated from the bone tumour classification and listed with head and neck tumours in a section on odontogenic and maxillofacial bone tumours. The molecular characterisation of these lesions has advanced recently and this narrative review discusses critically the genetic alterations in the odontogenic tumours that form bone/cementum (variable findings), giant cell-rich lesions of the jaws (sporadic

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABC) are benign, vascular, osseous lesions accounting for 1% of all bony tumors. Giant cervicodorsal ABC are rare. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice. Incomplete excision has a high chance of recurrence. Giant lesions of the spinal column require staged surgeries and circumferential instrumentation to avoid instability. An 18-year-old male presenting with acute onset paraplegia and urinary incontinence with features of myelopathy. On evaluation, he was diagnosed with multi-level giant ABC of the cervico-dorsal spine. He underwent tumor excision and instrumentat

Though the diagnostic utility of H3.3G34W immunohistochemistry (IHC) for giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is well established, it is limited by a proportion of cases with variant H3-3A mutations [H3-3A: c.104G>T p. Gly35Val (G34V), H3-3A: c.103G>A p. Gly35Arg (G34R), H3-3A: c.103_104delinsCT p. Gly35Leu (G34L)], wild-type genotype and H3-3A:c.103G>T p. Gly35Trp (G34W) mutation identified by sequencing but not by IHC. In this study, the H3-3A gene mutation by Sanger sequencing was analyzed in a large cohort of GCTB and its histological mimics. Sequencing of the H3-3A gene was performed to detect

BACKGROUND: Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) in association with craniofacial fibrous dysplasia (FD) is rare and may mimic aggressive change when a previously indolent lesion enlarges rapidly. We report an intracranial/cranial vault case and map published cranial vault/skull-base cases.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 16-year-old girl presented with a rapidly enlarging left parietal mass, headache, intermittent diplopia, and vertigo. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated expansive craniofacial/skull-base FD with a multiloculated osteolytic parietal component containing hemorrhagic fluid-fluid levels, suggest

Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign but locally aggressive osseous neoplasm that predominantly affects children and young adults, with skull base involvement being uncommon. We report a 59-year-old woman with a progressively enlarging clival ABC extending into the sphenoid sinus and right cavernous sinus. She initially presented with right frontal headache and subsequently developed progressive diplopia, ptosis, ophthalmoplegia, and trigeminal sensory impairment. An initial endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal biopsy was interpreted as a mucocele; however, continued clinical deterioration a
