Aneurysmal Bone Cyst of the Distal Phalanx: A Case Report.

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are rare benign bone lesions, infrequently affecting the hand and exceptionally rare in the distal phalanx. Here, we present a unique case involving a woman aged 33 years who presented with progressive swelling and erythema of the distal phalanx of the right index finger. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated features suggestive of ABC, whereas plain radiographs were inconclusive. The patient underwent surgical excision and curettage through a volar approach, preserving the phalanx. Histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis, and no adjuvant therapy was

Aggressive Juvenile Trabecular Ossifying Fibroma in a 4-Year-Old: Case Report Bringing Diagnostic Challenges and Surgical Management.

Juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma (JTOF) is an uncommon benign fibro-osseous neoplasm of the craniofacial skeleton that predominantly affects children and may clinically and radiographically resemble other aggressive lesions. We describe the case of a 4-year-old boy with a rapidly enlarging, painless maxillary mass. Imaging revealed a well-defined expansile lesion with internal radiopaque foci and ground-glass attenuation, extending into the nasal cavity and orbit. Histopathology showed immature trabecular bone with osteoblastic rimming in a fibroblastic stroma, along with aneurysmal bone

Aneurysmal Bone Cyst Presenting as a Pathological Subtrochanteric Femur Fracture in an Adolescent: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Aneurysmal bone cyst is a locally aggressive as well as benign bony lesion most commonly seen in adolescents. Although it mostly involves the metaphysis of long bones, presents as a fracture which is pathological in the subtrochanteric region of the femur is rare. The subtrochanteric femur is a biomechanically demanding region of the lower limb, and the presence of an underlying cystic pathology can complicate fracture management. Management of subtrochanteric femur fractures due to aneurysmal bone cysts in adolescents is limited, as described in the literature. This case is a ra

Proximal Tibial Giant Cell Tumor in a Skeletally Immature Child: A Diagnostic Dilemma and Review of the Literature.

INTRODUCTION: Giant cell tumor (GCT) of bone is a benign, locally aggressive neoplasm that primarily involves the epiphysis of long bones in skeletally mature individuals. It is extremely rare in skeletally immature patients. We report a rare case of proximal tibial GCT in a 7-year-old girl with a pathological fracture and metadiaphyseal extension, highlighting diagnostic considerations and long-term outcomes. CASE REPORT: A 7-year-old girl presented with pain, swelling, and deformity of the left upper leg following trivial trauma. Radiographs and non-contrast computed tomography scan demonst

Two secondary aneurysmal bone cysts associated with mandibular fibrous dysplasia: a rare case and literature review.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: The aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is an expansive, destructive, non-odontogenic, and benign bone lesion characterized by spaces filled with blood, typically affecting the elongated bones and spine, with a low incidence in the maxillofacial region. The pathogenesis may occur due to prior or pathological trauma, arteriovenous malformation, secondary association with a pre-existing bone process, such as giant cell tumor, ossifying fibroma, and bone dysplasia, or even genetic alterations. Managing an ABC involves different methods. The preferred treatment is surgical rese

Aggressive Central Giant Cell Granuloma: A Case Report.

Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is an uncommon benign intraosseous lesion of the jaws that typically affects the anterior mandible in young females. Aggressive variants may demonstrate rapid growth, cortical expansion, pain, root resorption, and recurrence. This report presents an unusual case of aggressive CGCG involving the posterior maxilla in a 20-year-old female patient who presented with progressive swelling and facial asymmetry. Radiographic evaluation revealed a well-defined expansile lytic lesion involving the right maxilla and maxillary sinus. Differential diagnoses included aden

Pseudoaneurysmal bone cyst secondary to primary hyperparathyroidism mimicking early infection following hip arthroplasty: A case report.

Pseudoaneurysmal bone cysts are rare complications of advanced primary hyperparathyroidism, mimicking malignant lesions or postoperative infections, particularly when accompanied by wound drainage and elevated inflammatory markers. A 49-year-old man underwent cemented total hip arthroplasty for a pathological femoral neck fracture. Persistent postoperative bloody-serous discharge and elevated infection markers such as C-reactive protein suggested early periprosthetic joint infection, prompting two surgical revisions. During both revision procedures, multiple deep tissue samples were obtained a

Primary denosumab therapy for a three-column pediatric cervical aneurysmal bone cyst: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric spinal aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) involving all three columns present significant surgical challenges due to high procedural morbidity and vertebral artery risks. While denosumab is utilized off-label for these aggressive lesions, its efficacy and safety in pediatric spinal cases remain insufficiently characterized. OBSERVATIONS: A 12-year-old girl with a C6 ABC and progressive myelopathy (modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association [mJOA] score 14) underwent 12 months of primary denosumab therapy. Neurological recovery was rapid, with the mJOA score improving to 17 by t

Proximal fibulectomy in the management of proximal fibular aneurysmal bone cyst: technical considerations and outcome; a retrospective case series.

BACKGROUND: Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign but locally aggressive bone tumor. Involvement of the proximal fibula is uncommon and represents a unique surgical challenge due to the proximity of the common peroneal nerve (CPN) and the lateral stabilizing structures of the knee. The optimal surgical management of ABC in this location remains controversial. METHODS: A retrospective case series was conducted including patients with histologically confirmed ABC of the proximal fibula treated with proximal fibulectomy between October 2018 and November 2023. All patients had a minimum follow-up

USP6 RNA Chromogenic In Situ Hybridization Is Useful in the Diagnosis of Nodular Fasciitis and Aneurysmal Bone Cyst.

Nodular fasciitis (NF) and aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) are uncommon entities that can mimic malignant neoplasms and be challenging to diagnose. Molecularly, the majority of NF and ABC cases are characterized by USP6 rearrangements, which result in a promoter swap and aberrant upregulation of USP6 RNA. While fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) can be used to confirm USP6 rearrangement, it often requires multiple days to complete. Here, we examine if USP6 RNA chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) could aid in the diagnosis of NF and ABC. We found that USP6 RNA CISH was positive in 89% (1

DNA injection through coleoptile; a choice to overcome species barrier and bring about rapid expansion of gene pool in rice.

INTRODUCTION: Femoral neck fractures are among the most common injuries in the elderly, and total hip arthroplasty is increasingly preferred due to superior functional outcomes and lower reoperation rates; however, instability and dislocation remain major concerns with conventional fixed-bearing total hip arthroplasty. Dual mobility total hip arthroplasty has been introduced to reduce these complications. METHODS: This retrospective analytical study included 335 patients aged over 55 years with AO/OTA type 31B or 31C femoral neck fractures who underwent total hip arthroplasty between January

Iturin A disrupts Cryptococcus neoformans membrane integrity, attenuates virulence, and synergizes with amphotericin B.

BACKGROUND: Use of the ergot-derived dopamine receptor agonists (cabergoline and pergolide) is associated with an increased risk of cardiac valvulopathy. Pergolide was withdrawn from the US market in 2007 because of the risk of valvular heart disease, while the European Medicines Agency (EMA) required a reduction in the maximum daily dosage of cabergoline and pergolide from 6 mg/day to 3 mg/day in 2008. In Japan, the package inserts of both drugs were revised in April 2007 to request that physicians conduct periodic ultrasonic cardiography (UCG) examinations for patients taking cabergoline or

How crime data incompleteness shapes ethnic disparities in predictive policing: evidence from Chicago.

BACKGROUND: Accurate measurement of ankle joint dorsiflexion is clinically important as a restriction has been linked to many foot and ankle pathologies, as well as increased ulcer risk and delayed ulcer healing in people with diabetes. Use of the reliable weight bearing (WB) Lunge test is limited as normal and restricted ranges for WB ankle joint dorsiflexion are not identified. Additionally the extent of WB dorsiflexion restriction that results in clinically adverse outcomes is unclear. Therefore the aim of this investigation is to validate a proposed weight bearing equinus value (dorsiflexi
