This case report discusses the management of a three-year-old male presenting with a pathological fracture of the distal femur due to an aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC). Due to diagnostic uncertainty and limited resources, the treatment involved an en bloc resection followed by the Masquelet technique with a fibular and cancellous graft. While this approach successfully reconstructed the bone defect, the patient developed a progressive valgus deformity and limb length discrepancy, likely due to physeal damage from the resection rather than the reconstruction technique itself. This case highlights t

Ganglion cysts are prevalent benign lesions originating from joint capsules or tendon sheaths, predominantly found in the wrist, while their presence on the toes is extremely rare. We report the case of a 27-year-old female who presented with a painless, mobile, rubbery nodule on the lateral aspect of the first metatarsal of the right foot. Generally, ganglion cysts in the foot are uncommon, and their development is thought to be associated with repetitive mechanical stress, leading to mucoid degeneration of collagen tissue. While conservative treatments such as aspiration and steroid injectio

BACKGROUND: Bone loss caused by cysts, tumors, trauma, and other factors is a significant challenge in medicine and dentistry. Effective bone regeneration is essential for accelerated healing and improved bone volume. While systemic drug supplementation helps, local delivery through gbr/gtr membranes is preferred for targeted treatment with minimal systemic effects. This study aims to develop drug-loaded gbr membranes using electrospinning to enhance localized drug delivery and tissue regeneration.
METHODS: Polycaprolactone (PCL) membranes were produced via electrospinning with various concen

BACKGROUND: The results of the Talar OsteoPeriostic grafting from the Iliac Crest (TOPIC) procedure for lateral osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLTs) are unknown. Therefore, the present prospective study aims to assess the numeric rating scale (NRS) of pain during walking at 2-year follow-up. Secondarily, the aim is to assess other clinical, radiologic, and safety outcomes.
METHODS: This is a single-center, nonrandomized prospective cohort study in which all press-fit lateral TOPIC patients for an OLT are included. Patients with a follow-up of at least 2 years without a concomitant osteoc

BACKGROUND: Sclerotherapy with polidocanol is a minimally invasive treatment for smaller Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs), offering safety and lower recurrence rates compared to surgery. Treatment choice depends on ABC size and location, with denosumab and titanium elastic nails as alternatives. To our knowledge, there are no systematic reviews regarding sclerotherapy with polidocanol as a treatment for ABCs. We aim to elucidate the effects of polidocanol in patients with ABCs.
METHODS: This systematic review included studies involving patients with aneurysmal bone cyst treated with sclerotherapy

We present an atypical case of a 62-year-old female diagnosed with pulmonary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (p-MALT) lymphoma, which uniquely manifested as a singular cystic lesion in the lung. Diagnostic evaluations, including comprehensive imaging, bronchoscopy, and CT-guided lung biopsy, revealed this uncommon radiological presentation. Detailed histopathological and immunohistochemical assessments further supported the diagnosis. To determine the extent of the disease, systemic evaluations, such as whole-body PET-CT, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and bone marrow biopsy, were conducted, conf

BACKGROUND: Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a rare malignant tumour primarily affecting adolescents, typically involving the axial and appendicular skeleton. Its occurrence in the hand is exceedingly rare, comprising less than 1 % of all cases. Early diagnosis is often challenging due to its nonspecific symptoms and similarities to other conditions. This case report highlights a rare presentation of Ewing sarcoma in the hand.
CASE REPORT: A 20-year-old male presented with a six-month history of swelling and discomfort in the left thumb, without prior injury or inflammatory symptoms. Physical examinatio

OBJECTIVES: Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is a major public health concern. The determinants of hip OA, however, are not as well understood as those of other OA sites, such as the knee. In recent years, the role of subchondral bone in the pathogenesis of OA has been emphasized but data are lacking for hip OA. Therefore, we aimed to determine which bone characteristics were associated to hip OA.
METHODS: We made a cross-sectional analysis of 1537 postmenopausal women included in the QUALYOR prospective cohort. At baseline, we measured areal BMD by DXA at the lumbar spine and the hip, volumetric BMD

Posterior mediastinal masses frequently originate from neurogenic tumours; however, other possible causes include vascular abnormalities, cysts and primary bone tumours. We present a case involving a man in his 20s who experienced back pain, sudden sensorimotor weakness in both lower limbs and loss of bladder control. Imaging studies, including CT and MRI, identified a posterior mediastinal extramedullary mass associated with vertebral destruction and intrathecal extension. A biopsy of the mass confirmed it to be a giant cell tumour of bone. The patient was treated with denosumab, steroids and

Pleomorphic-type anaplastic carcinoma of the pancreas is a rare and highly aggressive histological subtype of pancreatic ductal carcinoma. It is characterized by rapid progression and a poor prognosis. Preoperative diagnosis is often challenging due to nonspecific imaging findings and the frequent absence of elevated tumor markers. We present a resected case of pleomorphic-type anaplastic carcinoma of the pancreatic tail, which showed early recurrence in the remnant pancreas, potentially associated with a delayed-onset pancreatic fistula. A 63-year-old man presented with upper abdominal pain.

BACKGROUND: The lunate bone plays a crucial role in wrist stability and movement; therefore, any disruption to its integrity could significantly impact the function of the hand and subsequently, the quality of life. The variation in lunate morphology has been associated with several wrist pathologies. Although limited studies have assessed the association between lunate morphology and wrist pathology, none has been done on the Saudi population.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a hospital, in Saudi Arabia. A total of 284 wrist radiological reports were included i

BACKGROUND: Epidermoid cysts are benign, slow-growing, and extra-axial lesions that typically develop between the brain structures. Intradiploic and intra-axial involvement is exceptionally rare. We present a case of an intradiploic epidermoid cyst with distinct clinical and radiological features. This case highlights an unusual location and radiological presentation of an epidermoid cyst located within the skull base and may be misdiagnosed as other pathologies.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 44-year-old male presented with a dull, aching frontal headache and slowly growing right frontal swelling, wors

Stafne bone cyst (SBC) is a rare, asymptomatic finding typically located in the posterior region of the mandible, often observed incidentally on radiographs. The diagnosis of the defect is usually made using orthopantomogram, but in uncommon cases, more precise imaging techniques such as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are required. It is a well-circumscribed radiolucency that represents a developmental bone defect rather than a true cyst. This case report discusses a rare presentation of Stafne's bone cyst in a 30-year-old m

BACKGROUND: Osteochondral lesions of the tibia plafond (OLTPs) are an uncommon problem that can generate pain.
INDICATIONS: Arthroscopic techniques can provide symptomatic relief and improved outcomes when conservative management has failed.
TECHNIQUE DESCRIPTION: We present our arthroscopic technique for managing osteochondral lesions of the distal tibia with subchondral cyst formation. By addressing the lesion with bone marrow aspirate concentrate mixed with micronized cartilage matrix and sealing with fibrin glue, we achieve stable restoration of the osteochondral lesion in a competitive

Denosumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL), has demonstrated efficacy in giant cell tumors of bone and has been increasingly explored as a treatment option for aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) and osteoblastomas. While its use as a neoadjuvant therapy has been documented, its postoperative role remains unclear. This study presents two cases in which denosumab was administered after surgical resection to evaluate its potential for recurrence prevention and bone remodeling. The first patient, a 36-year-old female, was diagnosed with a spina

Giant cell-rich osteosarcoma (GCRO) is a rare variant of osteosarcoma with unusual radiological and histopathological features that make its diagnosis challenging. The most critical and unusual feature of GCRO is that it has a purely osteolytic appearance. Therefore, GCRO cases are frequently subject to delayed diagnosis or incorrect treatment owing to misdiagnosis. This negatively affects the prognosis of these patients. In this study, 3 young adult cases are presented. The first case describes a young female patient who underwent repeated curettages due to a misdiagnosis of a giant-cell bone

BACKGROUND: The use of the osteoclastogenesis inhibitor denosumab is increasing in pediatrics, especially in the treatment of giant cell tumor or granuloma of bone or jaw, aneurysmal bone cyst, and other rare bone disorders. Particularly in pediatric patients, adverse kidney effects-such as acute kidney injury (AKI), hypertension, and nephrocalcinosis-are a significant concern that has received little attention.
CASE-DIAGNOSIS/TREATMENT: In this report, we present three children who developed hypercalcemia-related AKI six months after discontinuation of denosumab treatment. Treatment of the h
