Osteoporotic bone marrow defect mimicking odontogenic cysts: report of 2 cases.

Osteoporotic bone marrow defect (OBMD) is an uncommon, localized area of ischemic bone marrow, usually confined to an extraction site in the posterior mandible and occasionally located in other skeletal sites. Most OBMDs are found incidentally and appear as a radiolucent or hypodense lesion with diffuse borders. The objective of this report is to present 2 unusual cases of OBMD as seen on panoramic radiography and cone beam computed tomographic scans. The fea¬tured lesions exhibited well-corticated perimeters and resembled a cystic process. Histopathologically, OBMDs contain various stages of

A Rare Clinical Dilemma: Humeral Shaft Fracture in a Full-Term Pregnant Patient - A Case Report with Review of Literature.

INTRODUCTION: Orthopedic trauma complicates 6-7% of pregnancies and remains a leading cause of non-obstetric maternal and fetal morbidity. While musculoskeletal injuries during pregnancy are not uncommon, fractures requiring surgical intervention in the third trimester are rare and present unique management challenges. Among these, humeral shaft fractures are especially rare, and their management must carefully balance maternal recovery with fetal well-being. CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 30-year-old primigravida at 38 + 4 weeks of gestation who sustained a left diaphyseal humerus frac

Prevalence of Viruses in Odontogenic Cysts and Tumours: A systematic review of literature and meta-analysis.

This review aimed to assess the prevalence of oncogenic and non-oncogenic viruses in odontogenic cysts and tumours. A comprehensive database search was performed for published articles regarding the presence of viruses in all odontogenic cysts and tumours, following guidelines without date constraints, and was registered with PROSPERO. After screening 164 articles, 24 studies were included for systematic evaluation. A meta-analysis was performed to determine the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV), revealing an overall pooled prevalence of HPV in ameloblastomas of 18.21% (95% confidence i

Askin Tumor in an Adult: Recognizing a Rare Chest Wall Presentation of Ewing Sarcoma.

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is an uncommon and aggressive bone tumor most commonly seen in children and adolescents. Chest wall involvement in adults is particularly rare. We report a 39-year-old woman with chest wall ES. She presented to the emergency department with unrelated symptoms, including flank pain and fever. A chest wall mass was incidentally identified on abdominal CT. Initial imaging had shown a well-circumscribed lesion that resembled a benign entity such as a lipoma or inclusion cyst, but over time, it progressively enlarged. Diagnosis was confirmed by imaging, histopathology, and mole

Giant ameloblastoma of the mandible.

Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor characterized by slow, asymptomatic growth and local aggressiveness. We report a case of a 24-year-old female with a gradually enlarging, painless swelling on the left side of her mandible over 3 years. Imaging revealed a 12 × 8 cm multilocular radiolucent lesion with cortical thinning and perforation, extending from the premolar to the angle of the mandibular ramus. Differential diagnoses included odontogenic keratocyst, dentigerous cyst, and other radiolucent mandibular lesions, and histopathological analysis confirmed a solid/multicystic ameloblas

Autologous bone graft and periosteal patch for large and recurrent talar osteochondral defect: A prospective study.

BACKGROUND: Osteochondral injuries of the talus (OLT) are common as a variety of mechanisms causes them. Asymptomatic presentation with an underlying damaged bone and the overlapping symptoms with a simple sprain make OLT a potentially career-ending injury. The best surgical intervention aims to alleviate pain and improve long-term outcomes as well. These outcomes can be measured by 3 major clinical measurements: Visual analogue Score (VAS), American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), and Foot and Ankle Disability Index (FADI), in addition to achieving the lowest complication rate poss

Transoral laser-assisted microscopic excision for lingual thyroglossal duct cyst.

PURPOSE: Thyroglossal duct cyst (TGDC) management, particularly lingual variants, poses challenges in treatment due to its anatomical location and potential for recurrence. This study aims to introduce a novel technique for managing lingual TGDC, combining transoral laser microscopic excision with cauterization of the hyoid mid portion, to improve treatment efficacy and reduce recurrence rates. METHODS: The effectiveness of this approach was evaluated in 11 patients (age range: 2-16 years), including three cases with recurrent TGDC following simple transoral excision at other institutions. Subchondral bone contribution to osteochondral health and injury.

Subchondral bone plays a critical yet often underappreciated role in osteochondral health, injury response, and the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis (OA). A limited understanding of subchondral bone behavior limits the accurate evaluation of cartilage repair outcomes. Alterations in the subchondral bone-such as changes in bone density and structure, subchondral cyst (SCC) formation, impairment of osseous microarchitecture, and overgrowth of the subchondral plate-can compromise the mechanical osteochondral unit's integrity, leading to compromised joint function and poor outcomes. Moreover, neu

Detriment of subchondral plate violation in antegrade osteochondral procedures-lessons and future direction.

The microfracture procedure, introduced in 1994 by Dr. Steadman, involves creating small perforations in the subchondral bone plate to stimulate cartilage regeneration through fibrocartilage formation. Early studies demonstrated its efficacy in improving patient-reported outcomes for small osteochondral defects, particularly in young, active patients. However, its popularity has declined due to poor long-term outcomes and limited indications. Emerging alternatives, such as autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) and osteochondral allograft/autograft transplantation (OAT), show superior long-

Expression of regulatory and executor proteins of apoptosis in odontogenic keratocyst: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) corresponds to the third most common odontogenic cyst of the maxillary bones, originating from the dental lamina or its remnants. Apoptosis dysregulation, due to an imbalance between anti-apoptotic and proapoptotic proteins, has been proposed as a promoter for the development and progression of OKC. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review to synthesize the current knowledge on effector proteins of the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways, and executor proteins of apoptosis in OKC and compare their expression to other odontogenic cysts and tumors

Molecular Morphology of Telangiectatic Osteosarcoma Associated With Сystic Content: A Case Report.

This case report is focused on a patient (a 32-year-old previously healthy man) with a femoral bone tissue tumor. The case underscores the diagnostic complexity of Telangiectatic Osteosarcoma (TOS) with Aneurysmal Bone Cystic (ABC) lesion and the importance of maintaining special immunohistochemical markers for differential diagnosis between low-grade osteosarcoma, primary ABC, and suspected TOS, which is a true mimicker of ABC. On the other hand, this presentation describes some molecular rearrangements seen in ABC.

Bridging the Gap between Hypothyroidism and Precocious Puberty: A Case Report of Van Wyk Grumbach Syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Van Wyk Grumbach syndrome (VWGS) is a rare clinical entity that presents with the triad of precocious puberty, polycystic ovaries, and severe hypothyroidism. VWGS is an uncommon cause of precocious puberty characterized by the dissociation of gonadarche and adrenarche. Unlike other etiologies of precocious puberty, VWGS is associated with absent growth acceleration and delayed bone maturation due to prolonged, untreated hypothyroidism. The diagnosis is often delayed or overlooked, as the overt or unusual pubertal manifestations may overshadow the subtle signs of hypothyroidism. F

Giant Cell-Rich Tumors of Bone and Soft Tissue.

Many benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors can contain giant cells in variable amounts. In some tumors, such as tenosynovial giant cell tumor and giant cell tumor of bone, these osteoclast-like giant cells are so prominent and characteristic that their presence has defined the entity. Other examples of bone tumors in which the presence of osteoclast-like giant cells is characteristic include chondroblastoma, aneurysmal bone cyst, nonossifying fibroma, and central giant cell granuloma. These tumors have a distinct pathogenesis, although some parallels can be identified. The osteoclas
