Ear piercing is a primitive tradition among the human being. It reflects the culture of many religions, tribes, and communities, predominately adopted by the females. We reported a sixteen years old girl with painful swelling of both pinnas for last one month following piercing the pinna. She was treated locally by general practitioner without significant improvement. On examination frank abscess were detected in both pinna. Under general anesthesia incision drainage and deep curettage was done. She was treated with ciprofloxacin 750 mg 12 hourly for 2 weeks and recovery was uneventful. After

Cauliflower ear is a serious deformity of the auricle induced by single or repeated injury to the external ear. Few papers deal with surgical techniques for correcting this deformity. We describe the use of ipsilateral excess cartilage to restore the helical rim.

BACKGROUND: The auricular hematoma occurs secondary to trauma and can present a therapeutic dilemma for clinicians. Early intervention can be limited to simple incision and drainage. Delay in treatment may allow the growth of ectopic fibroneocartilage derived from the damaged perichondrium. Removal of this abnormal tissue is imperative to avoid permanent ear deformity.

The cauliflower ear presents a challenge to the surgeon. Patients complain of discomfort and appearance. Three patients were treated surgically via a posterior approach to remove the hardened segment and re-sculpture a leaf of cartilage left in place. An acceptable cosmetic result was achieved and all patients are currently pain free.

Traumatic recurrent auricular hematoma can be a challenging medical problem, with complications resulting in cauliflower ear. Management of auricular hematomas has always been a challenge for physicians. This injury is very common among wrestlers since early olympic competition times. Initial treatment usually involves simple aspiration and a compression bandage. Most of these hematomas recur; then it must be decided how to manage this recurrent problem and the eventual "cauliflower ear." The acute auricular haematoma following a blow to the external ear presents a number of treatment options. If a satisfactory final cosmetic result is to be obtained a minor surgical procedure of one sort or another must be performed to prevent a 'cauliflower ear'. Simple needle aspiration is often insufficient to prevent this complication. Different procedures are reviewed and a simple, reliable technique for treating the acute auricular haematoma is described.

Acute hematoma of the ear (cauliflower ear) can be satisfactorily treated with aspiration and the use of the silicone mold to prevent reaccumulation of the blood or serum in the ear. Advantages of the silicone mold over other dressings appears to be ease of application, patient acceptance, and prevention of reoccurrence of reaccumulation of the hematoma.
