3D CT volumetric analysis of spinal canal volume in Bichon Frisé, Dachshund, and French Bulldog: correlation with neurologic severity in thoracolumbar disc herniation.

INTRODUCTION: The intervertebral disc herniation (IVDH) is one of the most common causes of spinal injury in dogs. Certain breeds, notably chondrodystrophic dogs, are predisposed to severe thoracolumbar IVDH due to anatomical and genetic factors. METHODS: This study applied three dimensional (3D) volumetric imaging analysis to compare the spinal canal volume and to investigate the relationship between canal volume and neurological symptoms severity. We retrospectively analyzed 21 dogs (7 Bichon Frisé, 7 Dachshund and 7 French Bulldogs) with imaging confirmed thoracolumbar disc herniation. Com

A Rare and Interesting Case of Sciatic Nerve Compression Due to Proximal Femoral Osteochondroma in a Young Adult - A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Osteochondromas (OCs) are benign hamartomatous lesions composed of cartilage and bone, arising from aberrant growth-plate cartilage. They characteristically project from the bone surface through the cortex and grow by endochondral ossification beneath the periosteum. Lesion growth usually parallels skeletal growth and typically ceases after physeal closure, although minimal growth of the cartilage cap may persist and generally stops by the third decade of life. This developmental mechanism explains the predilection for involvement of the distal femur, proximal tibia, and proximal

Lumbar Spine Surgery in a Patient With Recent Monkey Bite Receiving Rabies Immunoglobulin: A Case Report on Perioperative Anesthetic Challenges.

Rabies is a universally fatal acute zoonotic disease caused by rhabdovirus, and postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) remains the mainstay of prevention. Patients who sustain animal bites may require urgent or elective surgical interventions for unrelated conditions while simultaneously undergoing rabies prophylaxis. The perioperative team often faces uncertainty regarding the safety of anesthesia and surgery in patients receiving rabies vaccines or rabies immunoglobulin (RIG). This report discusses such a scenario in a patient posted for elective lumbar spine surgery. We report the case of a male in

[Endoscopic Approaches to the Thoracic Spine].

PURPOSE: In spinal surgery, endoscopic surgical techniques have been gaining increasing importance in recent years. Although the technique itself has existed for decades, it has only begun to spread more widely in recent years due to technological advancements and increasingly structured training concepts. Nowadays, endoscopic procedures can be performed on all regions of the spine, including the thoracic spine. MATERIALS/METHODS: The two standardised endoscopic techniques for the thoracic spine are the interlaminar and the transforaminal approaches. Additionally, there are individual case re

Age-Related Transitions in Low Back Pain Pathology: A Life-Course Narrative Review.

INTRODUCTION: Low back pain (LBP) represents the primary global cause of years lived with disability, significantly compromising health-related quality of life and imposing a substantial economic burden on healthcare systems. This narrative review conceptualizes LBP as a dynamic life-course process rather than a static diagnostic entity. METHOD: A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted using MeSH and free-text terms (e.g., "Low Back Pain," "Aging," spine diseases) for clinical trials, cohorts, and reviews published from inception through to January 2026. SnoN Is Involved in Regulation of the TGFβ/Smad Signaling Pathway in Patients with Degenerative Lumbar Canal Stenosis.

Degenerative lumbar canal stenosis is characterized by fibrosis-driven thickening of the ligamentum flavum, which is a key factor in the pathology of the disease and is responsible for clinical symptoms. Given the central role of transforming growth factor-β/Small mothers against decapentaplegic (Smad) signaling in fibrosis, this study aimed to investigate its role in ligamentum flavum remodeling in patients with degenerative lumbar canal stenosis. Ligamentum flavum tissue samples were obtained from 27 patients undergoing surgery for either degenerative lumbar canal stenosis (n = 18) or lumbar

Modified Minimally Invasive Transforaminal Microscope-Assisted Fusion to Treat Lumbar Foraminal Stenosis Combined with Severe Lumbar Degenerative Diseases.

OBJECTIVE: Lumbar foraminal stenosis combined with severe lumbar degenerative disease causing instability, radiculopathy, and claudication may require surgery. The surgical treatment goals are decompression, restoration of the height of the disc and foramina, and stabilize the spine. We used a modified minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) approach in those patients and evaluated its clinical efficacy. METHODS: We inserted the pedicle screws using the Wiltse approach and placed a tube retractor on the facet joint. The facet joint was partially removed to expose the

Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: Pathophysiology, Biomechanics, and Innovations in Diagnosis and Management.

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a common condition caused by the narrowing of the spinal canal, resulting in compression of neural and vascular structures. This compression leads to symptoms such as claudication, paresthesia, and lower extremity weakness. LSS is the leading cause of low back pain and functional limitations, affecting over 103 million people worldwide. Degenerative changes, including ligamentum flavum hypertrophy, facet joint osteoarthritis, and intervertebral disc degeneration, are the primary contributors to LSS. Additional factors, such as genetic predisposition, congenital

Optimizing S1 nerve root block using three-dimensional computed tomography imaging: Identifying the ideal fluoroscopic angle and predicting S1 neural foramen position.

BACKGROUND: S1 nerve root block (S1NRB) is frequently used to diagnose and treat lumbosacral and lower limb pain. However, the visibility of the S1 neural foramen can be obscured by factors including intestinal gas, increasing the procedure's technical difficulty. This study identified the optimal fluoroscopic angle for S1NRB and standardized the technique using three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) images. METHODS: We analyzed 3D CT images of 101 patients with lumbar degenerative diseases (lumbar disc herniation and lumbar spinal canal stenosis). The reference position angle (RPA)
