BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Vaccination during pregnancy protects both pregnant individuals and infants, yet real-world data on administration errors in this population are limited. We aimed to identify and characterize safety signals for vaccination errors during pregnancy using the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of VAERS reports from January 1, 2023, to May 30, 2025, involving vaccinations administered during pregnancy. Disproportionality was assessed using PRR (>2), ROR (signal if lower 95% CI > 1), EB05 (>2), and IC025 (>0) for err

A universal chickenpox vaccination has been included in the routine childhood immunisation programme since January 2026 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland; given in a two-dose schedule at 12 and 18 months as part of the combined measles/mumps/rubella/varicella (MMRV) vaccine. New evidence on the burden of disease in the UK and on whether circulating varicella zoster virus reduces shingles cases in older adults has led to this new recommendation. The MMRV is an established vaccine with good evidence to its efficacy and safety, including demonstration of significant reductions in chickenpox-

BACKGROUND: Live vaccination in patients with vascular anomalies (VA) receiving sirolimus remains controversial due to immunosuppressive effects and theoretical risks.
PROCEDURE: This single-center retrospective study included patients with VA less than 4 years old at the start of sirolimus therapy who were incompletely vaccinated. Immunologic evaluation during sirolimus therapy was categorized as normal, abnormal, or no/partial evaluation. Based on results, patients were encouraged to proceed with live attenuated vaccinations (varicella zoster virus [VZV]; measles-mumps-rubella [MMR]) or dis

BACKGROUND: Despite the introduction in 2017 of mandatory vaccination for the hexavalent and the measles-mumps-rubella-varicella vaccines, childhood vaccination coverage in Sicily (Italy) remains below the recommended and safety threshold of 95%. A catch-up vaccination intervention was implemented for the pediatric population of the 2022-2023 birth cohorts residing in a health district of Palermo (Bagheria) where in 2024, 24-month coverage for polio and measles was 77.29% and 77.62%, respectively.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study with a before-after component was conducted between June 2025 a

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Vaccine preventable infections (VPIs) contribute substantially to morbidity and mortality in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients. Recent outbreaks and declining herd immunity have brought attention to optimizing vaccination pre and posttransplant, as many patients remain incompletely immunized at the time of transplant. This review summarizes modern evidence and evolving recommendations regarding live vaccination in SOT candidates and recipients.
RECENT FINDINGS: Vaccination coverage at the time of transplant remains suboptimal, although targeted interventions have show

INTRODUCTION: Live attenuated vaccines (LAVs) are recommended during moderate corticosteroid therapy (<2 mg/kg per day) for nephrotic syndrome (NS) largely based on observational/case-control study data. We aim to conduct a randomised controlled trial (RCT) to assess the safety and immunogenicity of LAVs in children with NS.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: To test the safety and immunogenicity of LAVs in NS in children on moderate dose corticosteroid therapy (1.5 mg/kg alternate day dose with maximum 40 mg alternate day dose; early arm) vs those off corticosteroid therapy for 4 weeks (standard arm), we

The association between viral infections and subacute thyroiditis (SAT) has been recognized, yet whether a genetic causal relationship exists between them remains unclear. To address this, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study to investigate this relationship. Genetic instruments for exposure to common viruses were derived from published genome-wide association study summary statistics. Inverse-variance weighted was the primary analysis, supplemented by MR-Egger and weighted median methods. Sensitivity analyses included tests for heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy.

Two-dose childhood vaccination against measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella is widely recommended. Quadrivalent (MMRV) vaccines can be used for one or both immunizations against these diseases. In some countries, e.g. the United States, only one MMRV vaccine is licensed. Availability of another MMRV vaccine could strengthen supply resilience, optimal vaccine coverage, and disease control. In this phase II, single-blind, multi-country study, healthy children aged 4-6 y, previously primed with a first dose of any combination of measles/mumps/rubella/varicella-containing vaccine(s) in their sec

Immunomodulatory agents have become a mainstay treatment for various dermatologic conditions within the pediatric population. Increased use of off-label and FDA-approved medications, especially at younger ages, decreases disease burden and mortality. The earlier usage of these immunosuppressants often parallels the pediatric vaccine schedule. Successful treatment of dermatologic conditions while enabling children to mount an adequate immunologic response to preventable diseases necessitates partnering between dermatologists and primary care physicians. Understanding the guidelines will enable

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy for pediatric leukemia induces profound immunosuppression, resulting in waning protection against vaccine-preventable diseases. Despite high survival rates, standardized revaccination protocols for non-transplant survivors remain controversial. We aimed to assess the serologic immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella among pediatric leukemia survivors and to identify clinical and treatment-related determinants of immune persistence.
METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, 192 pediatric leukemia survivors treated with non-HSCT chemotherapy at Phoenix Chi

BACKGROUND: Infection remains a leading cause of mortality among transplant recipients. Studies on vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) among transplant recipients in Asia are lacking. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk of VPD in transplant recipients in Korea.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Individuals who underwent transplantation were retrospectively recruited using data from the Korea National Health Insurance system from 2008 to 2020. We selected four major VPDs-varicella, invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), mumps, and pertussis-and evaluated the cumulative incidence rate and

Serosurveillance for vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) can inform public health strategies by identifying gaps in immunization programs. However, venous blood sampling, though reliable and sensitive for serosurveillance, presents logistical challenges in resource-limited settings. Capillary microsampling using dried blood spots (DBS) offers a simpler, less invasive alternative that reduces cold-chain and personnel requirements. This study evaluated the performance and stability of DBS collected on filter paper and Mitra microsamplers compared with venous plasma. IgG antibody levels against d

BACKGROUND: The most recent assessment of antibodies against measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella-zoster viruses (MeV, MuV, RuV, VZV) in the United States was conducted in 2009-2010. Regular assessments are essential to measure the impact of immunization programs, identify immunity gaps, and inform vaccination strategies. We report updated estimates of national seroprevalence.
METHODS: We used a CDC-developed immunoglobulin G multiplex bead assay to quantitatively detect antibodies against MeV, MuV, RuV, and VZV among participants aged 6-59 years in the 2017-March 2020 National Health and N

BACKGROUND: Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and varicella vaccines are often co-administered to optimize coverage, yet safety concerns regarding febrile convulsions persist. In South Korea, MMR and varicella vaccines are administered as separate injections during a single visit (MMR + V). This study evaluated the real-world safety of concurrent MMR + V vaccination, focusing on the domestically implemented MAV/06 and Oka-derived strains.
METHODS: We conducted a multicenter self-controlled case series (SCCS) study of children aged 12-23 months who received MMR + V and hepatitis A vaccine (HAV) be

BACKGROUND: The US Food and Drug Administration recommends deferring administration of live vaccines during dupilumab treatment owing to lack of data on safety and efficacy. Understanding the safety profile of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and varicella administration in children taking dupilumab is important to promote appropriate vaccination.
OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to determine the safety of MMR and varicella immunizations during treatment with dupilumab and the impact of dupilumab on MMR and varicella vaccination rates in early childhood.
METHODS: We performed a single-center retrospe

Among pediatric institutions surveyed, administration of MMR, VAR, and RV was frequently allowed, though infection-prevention practices varied, particularly for VAR. Most institutions used standard precautions and reported no vaccine-derived transmission. Despite ongoing safety concerns and limited formal policies, most respondents believed benefits outweighed risks.
