A 13-year-old boy presented with hypoxia, microscopic hematuria, and elevated blood pressures. Persistent microscopic hematuria and hypertension led to investigation of glomerular and non-glomerular causes of hematuria. After reviewing his clinical course, family history, and laboratory testing, an additional test was sent, revealing the diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare neoplasm with malignant potential. Bladder IMT is even rarer and mainly treated by surgical resection However, partial or radical cystectomy would affect the quality of life of patients due to major surgical trauma, and classical TURBT is hard to avoid intraoperative complications including obturator nerve reflex and bleeding etc. Therefore, the safe and effective better choice of surgical approaches become critical to bladder IMT.

Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is a rare autosomal dominant metabolic disorder with low penetrance, often presenting with a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations. Acute neurovisceral attacks commonly occur in young women, mimicking signs and symptoms of other medical and psychiatric conditions, thus delaying the diagnosis. We present the case of an 18-year-old female college student with recurrent hospitalizations for intractable abdominal pain, now again with pain and new subjective hematuria. The patient had previously undergone an endoscopy/colonoscopy with negative biopsies and ser

RATIONALE: Bladder carcinosarcoma (BC) is a malignant tumor composed of a mixture of malignant epithelial and stromal components. Carcinosarcoma mostly occurs in the upper respiratory tract and upper gastrointestinal tract and is less common in the urinary system. The incidence of malignant tumors of the urinary system is <3%. It rarely occurs in the bladder and accounts for approximately 0.31% of all malignant bladder tumors. A literature review and this report will help to further improve our understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of bladder carcinosarcoma (BC).

The commonest malignancy of the urinary tract is bladder cancer, with the commonest presentation being painless visible haematuria. Just like other malignancies, it can spread, commonly to surrounding tissues like the prostate, seminal vesicles, and vagina, distantly to lymph nodes, lungs, liver, and bone, and less commonly to the skin and subcutaneous tissues. This is a case of a man with muscle-invasive bladder cancer who underwent radical radiotherapy. He presented nine days into the course of his radiotherapy with new symptoms of pain, swelling, and discharge, particularly at the penoscrot

Follicular cystitis (FC) is a chronic form of cystitis with uncertain etiology, characterized by the presence of lymphoid follicles in the bladder mucosa as a result of chronic irritation. This can be caused by various factors such as prolonged catheterization, lithiasis, recurrent urinary tract infections or neoplastic bladder pathology. Although it is a rare pathology, it is mainly seen in women over 50 years of age and manifests with nonspecific urinary symptoms such as dysuria, pollakiuria, haematuria and suprapubic pain. We describe a case of a 12-year-old boy with dysuria, haematuria and

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Ureteric stump syndrome [USS] is a series of febrile recurrent lower abdominal pain, urinary tract infections, and hematuria that sometimes present with empyema as a rare complication. The ureteric stump is left after ureteric re-implantation due to an impacted stone at the Vesical-ureteric junction [VUJ], or after nephrectomy of a non-functional kidney due to a distal stone; the ureteral stump forms a source of infection to the urinary bladder, in addition to long-term obstructive stones left at the ureteric stamp. This usually cause chronic irritation of the muco

PURPOSE: To assess management and outcomes of bladder neck stenosis (BNS) post-transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) in 12 centers.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of patients who underwent transurethral BN incision for stenosis following TURP from January 2015 and January 2023 was performed. Inclusion criteria included endoscopic diagnosis of BNS associated with obstruction and/or lower urinary tract symptoms. Data are presented as median and interquartile range. Two distinct univariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with o

BACKGROUND: Adult nephrotic syndrome is a well-known kidney disease that causes heavy proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hypercholesterolemia, edema, and hypertension. The treatment varies according to its underlying cause but often faces medication resistance or adverse drug effects.
CASE PRESENTATION: A Japanese woman in her 80s presented with nephrotic syndrome after a 3 year latent period of urinary protein and occult blood. She did not have any secondary causes of nephrotic syndrome. Renal biopsy revealed thin glomerular basement membrane, partial foot process fusion on electron microscopy wi

A urachal remnant is a rare condition characterized by the persistence of the urachus beyond birth, often presenting with symptoms such as umbilical effusion, periomphalitis, and abdominal pain. Surgical resection is the cornerstone of treatment, but ensuring complete removal of urachal epithelium at the resection margin remains a challenge. This case report focuses on evaluating resection margins of urachal remnants and reports the case of a 25-year-old woman with complaints of umbilical effusion and a mass. She was diagnosed with a urachal remnant and underwent urachal resection and reconstr

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Leiomyomas are rare, benign mesenchymal tumors. They represent 1 to 5 % of all urinary bladder tumors. 20 % are asymptomatic, but most presentations are voiding and storage, followed by hematuria. Surgery has been reported to be a standard treatment, depending on the size of the tumor and its location in the bladder. The following case report, we discuss the case of a bladder leiomyoma presenting with storage and voiding symptoms and managed with dual approach of Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) and open urethrotomy.

We report the case of an adolescent girl with frequent hospital admissions for severe eczematous skin rashes with recurrent epistaxis and chest infections. Investigations revealed persistent severely elevated serum total immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels but normal levels of other immunoglobulins, suggesting hyper-IgE syndrome. The first skin biopsy revealed superficial dermatophytic dermatitis (tinea corpora). Another biopsy performed after six months revealed a prominent basement membrane with dermal mucin, suggesting an underlying autoimmune disease. Her condition was complicated by proteinuria

In anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV), hematuria and proteinuria are biomarkers reflecting kidney involvement at diagnosis. Yet, the prognostic value of their persistence after immunosuppressive induction therapy, reflecting kidney damage or persistent disease, remains uncertain. To study this, our post hoc analysis included participants of five European randomized clinical trials on AAV (MAINRITSAN, MAINRITSAN2, RITUXVAS, MYCYC, IMPROVE). Urine protein-creatinine ratio (UPCR) and hematuria of spot urine samples collected at the end of induction therapy (fo

Obesity and recurrent hematuria are known risk factors for chronic kidney disease. However, there has been controversy on the association between obesity and glomerular hematuria. This study aimed to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI) and weight change and recurrent and persistent hematuria in glomerular disease using a large-scale, population-based Korean cohort. Data were collected from the National Health Insurance Service-National Health Screening Cohort. Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence interva

Synthetic cannabinoids (SCs) are chemical compounds created and manufactured, without quality control standards or requirements, to mimic tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). They are widely available in the USA, and they are sold under various brand names, including "K2" and "spice." Many adverse effects have been attributed to SCs, but most recently, they have also been associated with bleeding. There have been reported cases around the globe of SCs contaminated with long-acting anticoagulant rodenticide (LAAR) or superwarfarins. They are developed from compounds such as bromethalin, brodifacoum (BDF

Adenocarcinomas of the urinary bladder are exceedingly rare and present in various morphological forms. Virtually all of these are identical to glandular malignant neoplasia native to topographically neighboring organs, where the incidence of adenocarcinoma is also much more common, such as the large intestine. Cases of glandular malignancies of the urinary bladder, therefore, require not only a detailed histopathological evaluation and interpretation but also a detailed clinical and radiological one. These should be performed with the goal of proving the origin of the tumor as one arising fro

Long-term inflammation and recurrent skin infection in recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) are associated with the presence of immunoglobulin A (IgA)-containing immune complexes in the glomerulus. Only eight pediatric RDEB cases with IgA nephropathy (IgAN) have been documented in English-language literature. Most RDEB patients with IgAN progress to kidney failure within 5 years of diagnosis, indicating that these patients may require more intensive early treatment compared to those with primary IgAN. However, diagnosing IgAN in RDEB cases with severe cutaneous manifestations can

Renal artery pseudoaneurysm may develop after laser flexible ureteroscopy stone lithotripsy (FURSL). Typical symptoms include flank pain, persistent hematuria, delayed refractory anemia, or hemorrhagic shock in case of pseudoaneurysm rupture. This complication of laser FURSL is very rare with only five cases reported in the literature as of April 2023, of which one involved Thulium laser. We report the case of a 65-year-old man with recurrent renal lithiasis who underwent FURSL using Thulium fibered laser (TFL) for 8 mm stone of left kidney upper pole. Persistent hematuria developed postoperat
