BACKGROUND: Acquired haemophilia (AH) is a serious autoimmune haematological disease caused by the production of auto-antibodies against coagulation factor VIII. In some patients, AH is associated with a concomitant malignancy. In case of surgical intervention, AH poses a high risk of life-threatening bleeding.
CASE SUMMARY: A 60-year-old female patient with multiple recurrences of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer underwent transurethral tumour resection. A severe haematuria developed postoperatively warranting two endoscopic revisions; however, no clear source of bleeding was identified in

INTRODUCTION: Historically, ureteral reimplantation (UR) has been the gold standard for treatment of primary obstructive megaureter (POM) with declining renal function, worsening obstruction, or recurrent urinary tract infections. In infants, open surgery with reimplantation of a grossly dilated ureter into a small bladder, can be technically challenging with significant morbidity. Therefore, less invasive endoscopic management such as dilatation or incision of the ureter-vesical junction, has emerged as an alternative to reimplantation during the last decades.
OBJECTIVE: To systematically ev

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Mesh erosions following previous synthetic sling/mesh surgery for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) have become increasingly common. This systematic review provides evidence for the role of laser excision as a first-line management in patients with eroded mesh.
RECENT FINDINGS: Fourteen articles (173 patients) were included for the final review. Among these, 138 patients (79.8%) were submitted to trans-urethral laser excision of eroded urethral/bladder mesh over a median time to presentation of 36.6 months. Over a median follow-up of 23.6 months, 88 (63.7%) reported a compl

INTRODUCTION: The most common cause of feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUDT) is feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC), which is a complex multifactorial disease with symptoms including stranguria, dysuria, hematuria, and pain during urination. The development of these symptoms is often triggered by stress, and in case of chronic stress, these symptoms will many times return. One of the most important stress hormones in the pathogenesis of FIC is norepinephrine (NE), as persistently elevated level of this hormone can be measured in the blood of cats with FIC. However, it is not well understood

BACKGROUND: Xp11.2 translocation/TFE3 gene fusion associated with renal cell carcinoma (Xp11.2 RCC) exhibits unique biological characteristics and is associated with an increased incidence of tumor thrombosis, lymph node metastasis, and advanced disease stages. Multimodality imaging, including US, contrast-enhanced CT, multi-parametric MRI, and 18F-FDG PET/CT plays a crucial role in the preoperative diagnosis and differentiation of renal tumors.
CASE REPORT: A 15-year-old female presented with lumbar pain worsened, and developed persistent painless hematuria. The CT attenuation values of the

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with multi-system involvement as the main manifestation, and has complex and diverse clinical features. Studies on large samples have revealed that SLE patients have a significantly increased risk of thrombotic events, which are also one of the important causes of morbidity and mortality in SLE patients. Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by recurrent arterial and venous thrombosis, pregnancy-related complications, and the persistence of antiphospholipid antibodies at a 12-week interval. BACKGROUND: IgA vasculitis (IgAV), previously known as Henoch-Schönlein purpura, is the most common vasculitis of childhood but may also occur in adults. This small vessel vasculitis is characterised by palpable purpura, abdominal pain, arthritis or arthralgia and kidney involvement. This is an update of a review first published in 2009 and updated in 2015.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the benefits and harms of different agents (used singularly or in combination) compared with placebo, no treatment or any other agent for (1) the prevention of severe kidney disease in people with IgAV with or witho

CASE DESCRIPTION: An 8-year-old spayed female Yorkshire Terrier-Poodle dog was evaluated for persistent pollakiuria and stranguria following routine cystotomy for calcium oxalate cystoliths.
CLINICAL FINDINGS: The dog presented for a cystotomy with intermittent hematuria. Postoperative radiographs revealed no remaining cystoliths. Urine, cystolith, and bladder mucosal aerobic cultures were negative. Pollakiuria, stranguria, and hematuria developed immediately after surgery and persisted despite antibiotics. Ultrasound revealed suspected fibrous adhesions within the urinary bladder lumen conne

Primary malignant melanoma (PMM) of the urinary bladder is a rare disease. Symptoms include gross hematuria and irritative LUTS. The diagnosis is made with cystoscopy and TURBT. Treatment options include TURBT and adjuvant therapies. We present a 61-year-old female who was referred with persistent irritative LUTS without gross or microscopic hematuria. After undergoing cystoscopy, TURBT, and extensive workup, she was diagnosed with PMM of the urinary bladder. Due to her past medical history, recurrent PMM of the urinary bladder was the final diagnosis. She refused to receive further treatment

BACKGROUND The blind-ending branch of a bifid ureter is a rare congenital anomaly which is usually asymptomatic but can occasionally give rise to various symptoms, such as chronic abdominal pain. Diagnosis is most often confirmed radiologically, and treatment is usually conservative. Surgical resection of the blind ending of a bifid ureter should be considered in cases of persistent symptoms. CASE REPORT A female patient of 49 years of age presented with intermittent right lumbar pain, repetitive urinary infections and microscopic hematuria. We present here the diagnostic work-up of the case,

RATIONALE: Although coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remains a global threat, administering effective and safe vaccines is currently the most promising strategy to curb the ongoing pandemic and decrease the number of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections. However, there remains some uncertainty regarding the safety of vaccines for patients with kidney disease.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 58-year-old man presented at our institution with gross hematuria 48 hours after receiving his first dose of the CoronaVac (Sinovac) vaccine.

Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APLS) is a rare autoimmune disease characterized by recurrent arterial and venous thromboembolic events, pregnancy related complications as well as the persistent detection of antiphospholipid antibodies at a 12 week interval. Renal complications tend to occur in 3% of APLS patients, with renal artery stenosis being the most common kidney related complication. Renal pathology may be subdivided into macro as well as microvascular thrombotic complications with stenosis, thrombosis and infarction representing the principle macrovascular events and APLS nephropa

BACKGROUND: Urticarial vasculitis is a clinicopathologic entity defined by recurrent episodes of urticarial lesions that persist > 24 hours and demonstrate the histopathologic features of leukocytoclastic vasculitis. The most important prognostic feature is the presence of normo- or hypocomplementemia. In the latter, patients are much more likely to have systemic manifestations. Urticarial vasculitis is most often idiopathic, but it can arise in association with autoimmune connective diseases, cryoglobulinemia, infections, medications, and hematologic malignancies.

Bladder tamponade due to hemorrhagic cystitis caused by BK virus in immunocompetent patients is familiar to urologists. BK virus is an important cause of nephropathy and graft loss in kidney transplant recipients. Although urothelial carcinoma of the bladder in kidney transplant recipients with persistent BK viruria is known, BK virus-associated urothelial carcinoma (BKVUC) in peripheral blood stem cell transplantation recipients is not as well known. A 54-year-old man with acute lymphoblastic leukemia was treated in the Department of Hematology of our hospital. After recurrence 25 months late

Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) has been studied in various cancers for its immune modulation. Although the mechanism is yet to be completely understood, we do have positive experiences in many oncological cases. Hereby, we present a case of an 82-year-old male with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) post allogeneic Stem Cell Transplants (AlloSCT) as a salvage therapy, now in remission, who presented with hematuria. Workup confirmed non-muscle invasive Bladder Cancer (NMIBC), for which he was treated with nine sessions of intravesical BCG therapy. During BCG treatment, the patient developed gradually

RATIONALE: Simultaneous occurrence of anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease and thin basement membrane nephropathy (TBMN), both of which invade the type IV collagen subunits, is very rare. Here, we present the case of a 20-year-old male patient diagnosed with both anti-GBM disease and TBMN upon presenting dyspnea and hemoptysis.
PATIENT CONCERNS: No laboratory abnormalities, except arterial hypoxemia (PaO275.4 mmHg) and microscopic hematuria, were present. Chest computed tomography revealed bilateral infiltrations in the lower lung fields; thus, administration of empirical anti

Activated phosphoinositide 3-kinase delta syndrome (APDS) is a combined inborn error of immunity mainly caused by PIK3CD mutations. We herein describe a 4-year-old Chinese boy who was admitted for recurrent pneumonia and persistent hematuria and exhibited multisystem involvement and anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) positivity. He was initially diagnosed with ANCA-associated vasculitis. However, genetic testing revealed a c.1574A>G PIK3CD mutation, resulting in a diagnosis of APDS1.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The goal of this paper is to review retreatment management after failed minimally invasive treatment (MIST) of various technologies.
RECENT FINDINGS: A failed MIST can be defined by the return, persistence, or worsening of LUTS, as documented by symptom scores. Persistence, development, or recurrence of comorbidities such as recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI), retention, stones, hematuria, and incontinence can also signal a failed MIST. The common etiology for MIST failure is the preoperative consequence of long-term bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) on the bladder func
