Measles Vaccine Boosters in Immunocompromised Adults to Reduce Morbidity and Mortality From Acute Measles Infection: A Scoping Review.

Measles is a highly contagious viral illness associated with significant global mortality, despite the availability of an effective vaccine. As vaccine hesitancy continues to increase following the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with a lack of measles-specific antiviral agents, the risk of outbreaks and epidemics remains elevated. Immunocompromised individuals have a higher risk of serious complications from measles, especially because the live-attenuated measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine may be contraindicated in severely immunocompromised patients. As such, these individuals depend on herd im

Comparisons of kinanthropometric variables and physical performance in adolescent soccer players of different biological maturation.

Biological maturation is a crucial factor in the physical development of adolescent soccer players, affecting key performance-related variables essential for talent development. This study investigated differences across maturation stages in kinanthropometric and physical performance parameters in young male soccer players. Forty-three players (13.26 ± 1.03 years) were classified into pre-, circa-, and post-peak height velocity (PHV) groups, with maturation status assessed using a validated AI-based method (China-05). Participants then completed a series of kinanthropometric assessments, inclu

Post-infectious Basal Ganglia Encephalitis Caused by Mumps: A Case Series.

BackgroundMumps is a highly neurotropic virus causing a wide variety of neurologic complications. Post-/para-infectious basal ganglia encephalitis is one of its rare complications, with higher morbidity compared with other complications.CasesWe present 5 cases with basal ganglia encephalitis secondary to mumps infection. A recent history of parotitis or febrile illness with serologic evidence of mumps, combined with acute onset of movement disorders, behavioral changes with or without seizures, and basal ganglia abnormalities on neuroimaging, suggests the diagnosis. The occurrence of extrapyra

Case Report of Initial Manifestation of Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism Based on Unoccluded Growth Plates in a 26-Year-Old Vietnamese Patient.

Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is a rare endocrine disorder characterized by deficient secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), leading to reduced levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), ultimately resulting in impaired sexual maturation and pubertal development. While typically diagnosed during adolescence, rare cases present in adulthood as incidental findings. This case report describes an unusual presentation of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism discovered incidentally during treatment of a traumatic tibial fracture in a 26-year-old male patient, hi

Mumps Outbreak in Shivamogga, India (2023-2024): Age-Specific Attack Rates, Complications, and an Economic Case for Measles-Mumps-Rubella Vaccine Inclusion in the Universal Immunization Programme.

Background Recurrent mumps outbreaks continue to be reported in India, where the vaccine is not part of the national immunization schedule. Robust, age‑specific burden data from outbreak settings remain limited. Methods We conducted a retrospective investigation of pediatric mumps during epidemiologic weeks (EW)49‑2023 to EW8‑2024 across Subbaiah Institute facilities in Shivamogga, Karnataka, India. Clinically suspected cases were line-listed; laboratory confirmation used anti-mumps IgM enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We described demographics, complications, and length of stay (LOS

Measles - retrospective study of cases reported in a national notification system, Czech Republic, 2018-2024.

BACKGROUND: In response to the recent increase in measles cases and outbreaks across Europe, Czech surveillance data were analysed. The aim was also to evaluate the effect of vaccination on measles complications. METHODS: Cases of measles reported to the national surveillance system according to the EU case definition (2018) between 2018–2024, were analysed. Demographic characteristics were assessed using descriptive analysis (counts and proportions). Logistic regression with an odds ratio (OR) supplemented with the 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was calculated to measure the association bet

[Serological tests based on viral glycoproteins for detecting neutralizing antibodies to measles, mumps and rubella viruses].

INTRODUCTION: Measles, mumps and rubella viruses are highly contagious viruses that can cause serious clinical outcomes, complications and death. Neutralizing antibodies against measles, mumps and rubella viruses are a good indicator of clinical protection against these infections, but they are difficult to measure. THE AIM: To develop a serological glycoprotein-based passive hemagglutination reaction (gpPHAR) tests for the detection of neutralizing antibodies to measles, mumps and rubella viruses. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Human and animal cell cultures from the collection of the I.I. Mechniko

Post‑vaccination Acute Pancreatitis in an Infant: A Report of a Rare Case and Brief Literature Review.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is increasingly recognized in the pediatric population, although it remains uncommon in infants and young children. In this age group, diagnosis is often delayed because clinical manifestations, such as irritability, vomiting, and feeding intolerance, are nonspecific and may occur in the absence of classic abdominal pain. Most pediatric cases are mild and self‑limiting; however, severity can range from mild to severe depending on the presence and duration of organ dysfunction and the development of local or systemic complications at presentation.  A wide spectrum of eti

Two novel kindreds with autosomal recessive STAT2 deficiency.

STAT2 is a transcription factor in the type I/III interferon (IFN) antiviral response. Autosomal recessive STAT2 deficiency, reported in 12 kindreds from nine countries, underlies severe viral infections and hyperinflammation. We report three patients from two kindreds from Portugal and Algeria, respectively, with novel homozygous STAT2 mutations. The three patients developed complications following live attenuated measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, including hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) in one patient, who responded to treatment with intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG), steroids,

Recurrent Mumps in a Fully Vaccinated Young Adult With a Prior Breakthrough Infection: A Case Report.

Mumps is a vaccine-preventable viral disease that typically presents with parotid gland swelling and constitutional symptoms. Although widespread immunization has substantially reduced disease incidence, outbreaks continue to occur among vaccinated populations, raising concerns regarding waning immunity and vaccine failure. Recurrent mumps following both prior natural infection and complete vaccination is uncommon and remains infrequently reported. We describe a 21-year-old woman who presented with a four-day history of fever, malaise, myalgia, and progressive painful swelling of the left paro

Immunogenicity and safety of an investigational varicella zoster vaccine in toddlers aged 12-15 months: results of a phase II, controlled, randomized trial.

Varicella is an acute, highly contagious infectious disease that primarily impacts young children with approximately 90% of cases occurring under the age of 15. Due to the high incidence of varicella infection, the potential for serious complications, and the significant economic and public health burden, vaccination of toddlers against varicella is included in routine vaccination programs in many countries. This study assessed the immunogenicity and safety of the investigational varicella vaccine (VNS) compared to a licensed, current standard-of-care vaccine. In this phase II, observer-blind,

Viral infection and dementia risk: A systematic bidirectional Mendelian randomization analysis.

BACKGROUND: Viral infections have attracted increasing interest as potentially alterable risk factors for dementia; nonetheless, the results from observational research are variable and prone to confounding bias and reverse causation. This work seeks to systematically explore the potential causal associations between several viral infections and various forms of dementia by a Mendelian randomization methodology utilizing summary statistics and extensive genomic data from the Finnish FinnGen R12 database. METHODS: This study initially included 14 viral infections, including anogenital herpes,

Erythema Multiforme Secondary to Mumps.

Erythema multiforme (EMF), an immune-mediated disorder, presents with either cutaneous or mucosal lesions, or both. Although associated with multiple etiologies, the majority are attributed to infectious etiologies and drugs. In this case report, we describe a case of EMF secondary to a very uncommon etiology-mumps. A 22-year-old male presented with targetoid lesions on bilateral palms, the upper and lower extremities, and the trunk. He also had a few targetoid lesions on the lips and glans penis. The patient reported an episode of fever with parotid enlargement and tenderness 1 week before th

Mumps Vaccine-Associated Aseptic Meningitis Complicated by Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion.

Mumps vaccine is generally safe; however, aseptic meningitis remains a rare but recognized adverse event. We report the case of a 15-year-old male who developed a progressive headache and hyponatremia, leading to a diagnosis of syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH). As his symptoms worsened, CSF analysis revealed pleocytosis with monocyte predominance and elevated protein levels, resulting in a diagnosis of aseptic meningitis. A detailed history showed that he had received a mumps vaccine 27 days prior to admission. PCR testing of the CSF detected mumps virus, and di

Non-mumps parotitis associated with influenza A/H3N2: A case series from Southern Italy during the 2024-2025 influenza season.

Parotitis, commonly associated with the mumps virus, can also result from other viral infections. We report a case series of 21 children and preadolescents presenting with mumps-like parotitis in Southern Italy between January and February 2025, all of whom had been vaccinated against mumps. In all cases, mumps virus was not detected by real-time PCR in clinical samples. Alternative etiologies were investigated by testing for a broad panel of pathogens. Viral infections were identified in 16 cases (76.2 %), with influenza A/H3N2 being the most common pathogen (14 cases, 87.5 %), followed by rh
