In the present paper, the use of the combination preparation sulfamoxol/trimethoprim (CN 3123, Nevin [Grünenthal], Supristol [Nordmark]) in urinary tract infections is reported. This preparation was used in 165 patients of both sexes and all ages. All cases of persistent renal failure in infants less than 1 year of age were reviewed to determine whether the prognosis has improved equally for infants as for adults. During a ten-year period, 52 infants were treated by applying uniform therapy; 28, more than half, were less than 4 weeks old. In 85 patients with ascertained chronic pyelonephritis the relations between the measured values of the combined PAH-inulin-clearance, the index of the adrenal cortex and other radiological findings were investigated. Here the determination of the cortex of the adrenal cortex resulted in a better correlation with the sizes clarification values than the calculation of the size of the kidney. Analgesic abuse nephropathy is seldom considered as a cause in patients presenting with chronic renal disease. In a three-year period 450 patients were seen with chronic renal failure. With the purpose of establishing the clinicopathologic correlation in pyelonephritis and to discard other interstitial nephrites, with present day morphologic criteria we analysed 63 casos that had been diagnosed as pyelonephritis, following Weiss and Parker's histologic criterion. A model was designed to study the relation between urinary infection and vesicoureteral, low-grade, total reflux. Surgical alteration of the ureterovesical junction produced grade 2 vesicoureteral reflux in seven of 13 animals. In the other six animals, surgery had rendered the vesicoureteral junction marginally competent and chronic bladder infection caused grade 2 reflux. It was found that grade 2 vesicoureteral reflux in the adult monkey neither prolongs urinary tract infection nor causes continued renal infection.
