Eosinophilic ureteritis (EU) is a rare inflammatory condition characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of the ureter, often presenting with flank pain, hematuria, or obstructive uropathy. Fewer than 30 cases have been reported in the literature, and no standardized treatment strategy currently exists. We report the case of a 54-year-old woman with a history of eosinophilic cystitis who developed progressive left-sided flank pain and hydronephrosis following radical cystectomy. Ureteroscopy with biopsy confirmed EU. A six-week course of corticosteroids resulted in partial radiographic improve

Ureteral complications are a significant source of morbidity after kidney transplantation. While complete ureteral obstruction is typically identified with standard imaging, partial obstruction may be more difficult to diagnose. We report the case of an eight-year-old girl who developed progressive hydronephrosis and graft dysfunction following kidney transplantation. Imaging studies, including ultrasound and retrograde pyelography, were inconclusive and failed to clearly localize the obstruction. Due to persistent graft dysfunction, surgical exploration was performed, revealing a short-segmen

INTRODUCTION: Fetal hydronephrosis (HN) is detected in about 0.25-1% of fetuses, where ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is the most commonly found congenital urinary tract anomaly, remaining the leading cause of kidney failure in infants and children. Since it is a spectral disease, UPJO represents a particularly challenging management. Severe UPJO must be treated surgically to avoid impairment of renal function, but children with non-obstructive hydronephrosis can be treated conservatively. There has been controversy regarding the indication for surgical intervention in asymptomatic

BACKGROUND: Urinary tract endometriosis affects fewer than 6% of patients with endometriosis, with ureteral involvement representing the second most common site of disease (9-23%). The condition is often asymptomatic, which may result in silent loss of renal function. Surgical intervention is required in cases of ureteral obstruction. Ureteroneocystostomy is indicated for distal ureteral disease, particularly when ureterolysis is insufficient or vascular compromise is present. The Lich-Gregoir technique is an extravesical approach to ureteral reimplantation into the bladder.

Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) is a rare, chronic inflammatory renal condition often associated with urinary tract obstruction, nephrolithiasis, and recurrent infection. Diagnostically, it can mimic malignancy on both clinical presentation and imaging. A 65-year-old woman presented with a three-week history of abdominal pain, fever, and giddiness. Cross-sectional imaging demonstrated a left staghorn calculus with hydronephrosis and features consistent with XGP and pyonephrosis. She underwent urgent percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) with drainage of purulent material. During admission,

Genitourinary tuberculosis (GUTB) is a prevalent yet frequently underdiagnosed form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB), owing to its characteristically indolent and asymptomatic clinical course. In its most advanced form, renal TB culminates in complete destruction and dystrophic calcification of the renal parenchyma, a condition known as "putty kidney" or autonephrectomy. This entity can develop silently over many years, even in patients who have completed antitubercular therapy for pulmonary disease. A 44-year-old woman with a remote history of pulmonary TB treated 14 years prior presented

A 67-year-old female with a previous history of superficial urothelial carcinoma of the bladder, discharged from surveillance follow-up, presented to her general practitioner with nausea and unintentional weight loss. The patient had radiological findings of a poor nephrogram with significant perirenal inflammatory stranding and hydronephrosis secondary to conglomerate pelvic calcification. This was suggestive of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) and possible malignant changes. The patient ultimately underwent a radical nephrectomy; subsequently, the specimen revealed high-grade T4 urot

Fetal hydronephrosis is the most frequently detected prenatal urinary tract abnormality and encompasses a broad clinical spectrum, ranging from transient physiological dilation to clinically significant obstructive uropathy with potential long-term renal consequences. The broader term urinary tract dilation integrates renal pelvic and calyceal dilation with abnormalities of the renal parenchyma, ureters, bladder, and amniotic fluid volume, thereby supporting more comprehensive risk stratification. This narrative review synthesizes evidence on fetal urinary tract development, prenatal diagnosis

Various methods for vaginoplasty exist, but the choice depends on anatomy and body size. Conventional vaginoplasty, when performed with bowel segments rather than prosthetic materials, allows modification of canal length but lacks precise control of diameter, rendering it less suitable for pediatric patients and for those with small pelvic cavities. Moreover, the positional traction sometimes necessary under these conditions may compromise mesenteric perfusion and heighten the risk of ischemic complications. This report introduces a novel technique using the Yang-Monti tube principle with end-

Burkitt lymphoma is a highly aggressive B-cell malignancy characterized by rapid proliferation and a narrow therapeutic window in which early recognition of disease progression is critical to prevent morbidity. While diagnosis is typically established through histopathology and imaging, evolving physiologic and radiographic changes may provide early indicators of aggressive disease behavior, particularly in the post treatment setting. We present a 26-year-old male patient with previously treated Epstein-Barr virus-positive Burkitt lymphoma who presented with acute lower back pain, urinary symp

BACKGROUND: Placement failure of the flexible and navigable suction ureteral access sheath (FANS) with negative pressure suction may occur during retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) due to ureteral stricture, hemorrhage, injury and other factors. This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of parameters from a 3D visualization model based on preoperative computed tomography (CT) for the failure of FANS placement without pre-stenting.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 113 patients who underwent RIRS at Chengdu Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Wes

BACKGROUND: The concomitant presentation of upper urinary tract calculi and renal pelvis urothelial carcinoma is exceptionally rare in clinical practice. Parenchymal-invasive renal pelvis carcinoma often exhibits atypical imaging features, further complicating diagnosis. As both conditions share haematuria as a cardinal symptom, this overlap frequently leads to the misdiagnosis of one entity for the other. CASE PRESENTATION: We reported the symptoms and diagnosis of two cases of upper urinary tract stones with renal pelvis cancer that detected between May 2023 and December 2024. Two patients w

Schinzel-Giedion syndrome (SGS) is a very rare congenital disorder linked to de novo pathogenic variants in the SET Binding Protein 1 (SETBP1) gene. The condition is usually suspected from a recognisable craniofacial pattern, severe developmental delay, early neurological problems, and congenital abnormalities involving several organ systems. As the disorder is uncommon and presents with wide systemic involvement, diagnosis can be missed or delayed unless the clinical features are carefully recognised and followed by appropriate genetic testing. We report the case of a two-year-old girl who wa

A man in his 40s on long-term immunosuppression with bilateral lung transplantation due to cystic fibrosis presented to the hospital with dysuria and flank pain, initially attributed to pyelonephritis. Repeated computed tomography revealed progressive bilateral hydronephrosis unresponsive to ureteric stenting, an extensive bladder wall lesion with calcification, and retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy. A cystoscopic biopsy reviewed at a tertiary centre confirmed high-grade urothelial carcinoma with extensive glandular differentiation, positive for the SV40 antigen, consistent with BK polyomavirus-

Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer mortality in females globally, and a significant proportion of patients develop metastatic disease. Common metastatic sites of breast cancer include bone, lung, liver, and brain. Secondary neoplasms (metastases from other primary sites) represent a minority of all malignant bladder tumors In this report, we describe a case of breast cancer metastasis with ureteral obstruction and bladder mass in a 60-year-old African-American female. For over a decade, this patient was asymptomatic and had been under surveillance following bilateral radical mast

Urinothorax is an exceptionally rare cause of pleural effusion characterized by the abnormal accumulation of urine in the pleural space, typically secondary to genitourinary trauma or obstructive uropathy. We report the case of a 54-year-old male who presented with acute right-sided chest pain, colicky abdominal pain, and rapidly worsening respiratory distress. Serial imaging demonstrated a rapidly refilling massive loculated pleural effusion alongside a 3.3 cm right pelviureteric junction calculus, causing moderate hydroureteronephrosis. Ultrasound-guided thoracentesis yielded an exudative fl

INTRODUCTION: Neonatal renal dysfunction is a congenital abnormality of renal development caused by disrupted interaction between the ureteric bud and the metanephric blastema, resulting in disorganized renal parenchyma and variable degrees of functional impairment. Prenatal diagnosis remains challenging due to the limited specificity of ultrasound findings and the frequent need for postnatal confirmation. A standardized prenatal ultrasound score may improve identification of fetuses at higher risk of neonatal renal dysfunction among those with suspected renal abnormalities.
METHODS: We condu

Spontaneous ureteral rupture (SUR) is an uncommon complication of obstructive uropathy and may mimic other acute abdominal conditions. We report a case of a 66-year-old man who presented with sudden severe right flank pain and a deceptively normal urinalysis. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) revealed mild right hydronephrosis and a large anechoic perinephric fluid collection that provided an acoustic window, allowing direct visualization of a focal discontinuity in the proximal ureter. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) confirmed ureteral rupture with extensive urinoma formation second

BACKGROUND: The characteristics of postobstructive diuresis (POD) following relief of unilateral ureteric obstruction (UUO) has been studied in animals, but there is scarcity of literature on translation of these findings in human pediatric patients with unilateral pelviureteric junction obstruction (PUJO) following pyeloplasty.
OBJECTIVE: The primary objective was to assess the biochemical characteristics of the POD from the operated kidney. Our secondary objective was it's clinical implications and identifying predisposing factors.
STUDY DESIGN: A prospective observational study was conduc
