Pyeloduodenal fistula: a review of the current literature.

PURPOSE: Pyeloduodenal fistula (PDF) is a communication between the renal pelvis and the duodenum. It is often secondary to other diseases. It is a rare condition and therefore infrequently described in the literature. The aim is to present a review of the current literature on PDF and to give an update of its aetiology, symptoms, investigations and treatments. METHODS: Pubmed, Cochrane Library and Embase were used to search for existing literature in English and Scandinavian languages with available abstracts in the period Jan 2000-Dec 2023. RESULTS: No meta-analysis or reviews were found.

Pyonephrosis complicated with spontaneous intraperitoneal rupture and diffuse peritonitis: Case report and literature review.

Pyonephrosis is a serious condition that can lead to kidney dysfunction, loss of the organ, and even fatal end due to its complications. The underlying etiologic factors include lithiasis, recurrent urinary infections, ureter stricture, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, malignancy, and retroperitoneal fibrosis. One of the rare possible complications of pyonephrosis is a retroperitoneal rupture with spontaneous communication to the abdomen causing secondary peritonitis. We present such a case which is the first video-documented report of the peritoneal rupture site within the abdominal cavity

Laparoscopic approach for xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis and pyonephrosis.

INTRODUCTION: Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGPN) is a rare form of chronic renal inflammation, caused by long-term obstruction of the urinary tract. Pyonephrosis is a severe suppurative complication of acute obstructive pyelonephritis. Although minimally invasive approaches have many advantages, the safe dissection of the kidney may not be always achievable. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed 27 cases diagnosed with either XGPN or pyonephrosis, who underwent laparoscopic total nephrectomy between October 2016 and March 2022 in our department. All interventions were performed using the

Hypovascular insulinoma with reduced microvessel density on histopathology: a case report.

UNLABELLED: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by impaired glucose homeostasis, insulin resistance, and progressive complications. Although Cardiospermum halicacabum Linn. has demonstrated antihyperglycemic activity in traditional medicine, its molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study investigated its antidiabetic mechanisms using network pharmacology, molecular docking, ADMET profiling, and in vitro α-amylase inhibition. Preliminary phytochemical screening was performed on the ethanolic extract. Phytoconstituents were retrieved from the IMPPAT dat

Multiple Percutaneous Drainage of a Giant Pyonephrosis Caused by Urolithiasis: A Case Report.

The prevalence of kidney stones continues to rise in modern times. Undiagnosed and/or mistreated, it can result in suppurative kidney damage and, in rare instances, death from systemic infection. We present the case of a 40-year-old woman who presented to the county hospital for sleight left lumbar pain, fever, and pyuria for about two weeks. Ultrasound and CT scan revealed a giant hydronephrosis with no visible parenchyma, secondary to a stone in the pelvic-ureteral junction. Although a nephrostomy stent was placed, 48 hours later the purulent content was not evacuated completely. She was ref

Giant Pyonephrosis in an Ectopic Kidney: A Case Report.

Pyonephrosis is characterized by infective hydronephrosis accompanied by suppurative destruction of the renal parenchyma, resulting in partial or complete impairment of renal function. Patients present with wide range of symptoms, they can be asymptomatic in 15% but most of them present with septic features like fever, chills, and flank pain. Urinary tract infections, functional and anatomic obstruction, and anatomic anomalies such as pelvic and horseshoe kidneys are common etiologic factors. We report a 30 years old female patient with giant pyonephrosis in an ectopic kidney. She presented wi

[Imaging in children and adolescents with urinary tract infections].

CLINICAL/METHODOLOGICAL PROBLEM: Urinary tract infections are among the most common infectious diseases in childhood. The task of imaging is to detect predisposing factors, such as urinary transport disorders, vesicoureteral reflux, as well as complications such as abscesses or pyonephrosis in addition to possible morphological changes of the kidneys and the draining urinary tract during an infection. STANDARD RADIOLOGICAL PROCEDURES: The initial diagnostic imaging technique is generally sonography. For the diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux, voiding urosonography or alternatively radiologica

Case report: A rare case of synchronous mucinous neoplasms of the renal pelvis and the appendix.

BACKGROUND: Mucinous neoplasms are tumors arising in the epithelial tissue, characterized by excessive mucin secretion. They mainly emerge in the digestive system and rarely in the urinary system. They also seldom develop in the renal pelvis and the appendix asynchronously or simultaneously. The concurrence of this disease in these two regions has not yet been reported. In this case report, we discuss the diagnosis and treatment of synchronous mucinous neoplasms of the right renal pelvis and the appendix. The mucinous neoplasm of the renal pelvis was preoperatively misdiagnosed as pyonephrosis

Lelliottia amnigena and Pseudomonas putida Coinfection Associated with a Critical SARS-CoV-2 Infection: A Case Report.

Lelliottia amnigena is a Gram-negative facultative anaerobic bacillus identified from water sources and later from food (onions, cream, unpasteurized milk, and Spanish pork sausages), which, under certain circumstances, can cause infections in humans, especially in immunocompromised patients. Few cases of human infections have been reported in the literature, such as endophthalmitis, urinary tract infection, pyonephrosis, and sepsis. We describe the case of a 69-year-old Caucasian male patient who lives in an urban environment and presents himself to the emergency department with chills, fever
