Among patients with chronic kidney disease stage-5 who are treated with dialysis, the urea clearance during hemodialysis is a determinant of the mortality. Decreased serum albumin, serum calcium but increased phosphorus is associated with reduction of URR and mortality in these patients. This study was to compare two groups Urea Reduction Ratio (URR) and different type of biochemical parameters. URR was aimed to target according to Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI) guideline. This study was an observational study was carried out in the department of Nephrology. Patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) who are refractory to drug treatment may present progressive loss of kidney function, leading to chronic kidney disease stage 5 under dialysis treatment. The safety of systemic administration of bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BMDMCs) has been shown in different preclinical models of kidney diseases. However, to date, no study has evaluated the safety and biodistribution of BMDMCs after infusion in renal arteries in patients with FSGS. We used a prospective, non-randomized, single-center longitudinal design to investigate this appr

Hydrogel and aerogel materials have garnered significant attention in constructing effective surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates due to their excellent adsorption capabilities, high specific surface area, and abundant chemical groups. However, in liquids with complex compositions, non-specific adsorption of macromolecules can lead to surface scaling and pore clogging of the substrate material, limiting the selective enrichment and SERS detection of target molecules. To address this, an innovative aerogel-chimeric hydrogel material (CH@S-CNF/SA/Ag NPs) was developed. The aerog

Dialysis is a common treatment for removing toxins, electrolytes, and excess fluids due to impaired kidney function. A rare but life-threatening complication that can arise is dialysis disequilibrium syndrome (DDS) with cerebral edema. DDS is characterized by a range of neurological symptoms that may occur following dialysis. Its incidence is not well-established because it often presents with nonspecific symptoms, making diagnosis challenging. Here, we present a case of a 64-year-old female with a history of hypertension and chronic kidney disease stage 5, who sought evaluation for nausea and

OBJECTIVE: Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 on dialysis (CKD-5D). High sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are several inflammatory parameters associated with high cardiovascular events in CKD-5D. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of reduced L-glutathione supplementation on serum hs-CRP, TNF-α, and NLR in patients with CKD-5D.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study is a quasi-experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design.

Hemophilia C is a rare bleeding disorder, and such patients with chronic kidney disease are at risk for bleeding during kidney transplant surgery. Kidney transplant patients with hemophilia C can be managed meticulously through a protocol to maintain a coagulation profile in the reference range. Here, we present a case study that focused on a treatment protocol for a patient with chronic kidney disease and hemophilia C who underwent kidney transplant surgery. Patients with hemophilia C who develop chronic kidney disease stage 5 can safely undergo a kidney transplant or any other major surgery

BACKGROUND: Although percutaneous vertebral augmentation (PVA) is a commonly used procedure for treating vertebral compression fracture (VCF), the risk of vertebral refracture should be considered. Chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) is a systemic disease of mineral and bone metabolism. It is associated with an increased risk of fracture. Few studies have reported the use of PVA in patients with CKD-MBD. We herein report a rare case wherein the cemented vertebra and the adjacent vertebra refractured simultaneously in a CKD-MBD patient after PVA.

BACKGROUND: Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare, mostly complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathy. The majority of patients are infants. In contrast to infantile-onset aHUS, the clinical and genetic characteristics of adolescence-onset aHUS have not been sufficiently addressed to date.
METHODS: A total of 28 patients (21 girls, 7 boys) who were diagnosed as aHUS between the ages of ≥10 years and <18 years were included in this study. All available data in the Turkish Pediatric aHUS registry were collected and analyzed.
RESULTS: The mean age at diagnosis was 12.8±2.3 year

SGLT2 inhibitors increase renal excretion of sodium and glucose by blocking the SGLT2 transporters in the proximal tubule. Not only do they lower blood sugars levels but also have positive effects on blood pressure and weight. They lead to more efficient energy metabolism in the heart and kidneys, increase the production of red blood cells and decrease fibrosis and inflammation in the heart and the kidneys. Large double blind randomized trials have shown both cardiac and renal protective effects. Patient with heart failure, both with reduced and preserved ejection fraction have shown to benefi

About 10% of all home peritoneal dialysis regimens in children with chronic kidney disease stage 5 are reported to involve some form of a tidal peritoneal dialysis (TPD) prescription. Despite this, there remain several gaps in how pediatric nephrologists approach the use of TPD. This stems from a combination of factors such as the confusing technical terminology pertaining to TPD, seemingly conflicting data on the risks, benefits, and indications for TPD, and lastly, limited published guidelines on the practical aspects of how to write a TPD prescription, based on the indication, in children.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic kidney disease stage 5 on dialysis (CKD-5D) remains a global health problem associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality owing to cardiovascular disease. This condition is associated with chronic inflammation, which is characterized by an increase in cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is a first-line endogenous enzymatic antioxidant capable of neutralizing the effects of inflammation and oxidative stress. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to determine the effect of
