Comparison of dusting and fragmentation methods in the flexible ureteroscopic treatment of kidney lower calyx stones.

To compare the long-term stone-free status of patients who underwent fragmentation of stones followed by active basketing versus stone dusting and spontaneous passage following flexible ureteroscopic treatment for lower calyceal stones. The dusting or fragmentation methods were randomly assigned to patients who were scheduled to undergo RIRS for only renal lower calyceal stones between February 2019 and May 2022, prospectively. Stone-free rates were determined after 3 months by non-contrast computed tomography and patient demography; preoperative and postoperative follow-up data of both groups

Detection of the mineral constituents in human renal calculi by vibrational spectroscopic analysis combined with allied techniques Powder XRD, TGA, SEM, IR imaging and TXRF.

Detection of the mineral constituents in a batch of 310 samples of human urinary calculi (kidney stones-235 and bladder stones-75) combined with a semi-quantitative analysis has been presented on the basis of Fourier Transform based IR and Raman spectral measurements. Some of the observed characteristic IR and Raman bands have been proposed as 'Marker Bands' for the most reliable identification of the constituents. A detailed vibrational spectral analysis combined with a DFT level calculation for the functional groups in Calcium Oxalate Monohydrate (COM), Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate Hexahydra

Percutaneous cystolithotripsy of bladder stones in children: A case series, an experience from a tertiary hospital.

Urinary calculus is more commonly known in infants, and the urinary bladder is the most common location in the lower urinary tract for stone formation. There are three basic types of bladder calculus: Primary idiopathic/endemic, secondary, and migrant. The standard treatment of bladder calculus is open cystolithotomy or transurethral cystolitholapaxy. However, the use of a percutaneous approach has been promoted. We performed percutaneous cystolithotripsy with urethrocystoscopy guidance in children with bladder stones. The procedure was done without any ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance. In

Urethral Urolithiasis in Male Cattle Treated Using Pneumatic Lithotripsy.

One of the most important problems encountered in cattle breeding is urethral urolithiasis. Urolithiasis can be treated using various methods, but they all carry risks. Thus, a continuous search is being carried out for alternatives in this field. This study aimed to treat urethral urolithiasis in male cattle using pneumatic lithotripsy, a minimally invasive method. The urethra and penile tissues of 20 male cattle of different ages and breeds were obtained from slaughterhouse materials and measured before determining the probe diameters and lengths. The study included 9 male cattle (2 Simmenta

[Prepubic urethrostomy in a Wiesenauer minipig with urolithiasis].

A 10-year-old castrated, male miniature pig was presented with tenesmus vesicae and anuria accompanied by tachypnea. Radiographs confirmed numerous uroliths within the bladder and urethra. The urethra was not amenable to catheterization, therefore, an emergency tube cystostomy was performed. Despite bladder irrigation the uroliths in the urethra were not removable. Consequently, a prepubic urethrostoma procedure was undertaken. The minipig fully recovered and has since been voiding urine via the urethral fistula uneventfully. Measures to prevent urolithiasis, among others, include an adequate

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Urolithiasis is the presence of stones in the kidney, ureters, bladder and/or urethra; it is the third most frequent disease of the urinary tract. Mimosa malacophylla A. Gray, is a species distributed in northern Mexico, where people traditionally use it for its diuretic effect, and to treat kidney diseases; however, no scientific reports have been found in relation to its antiurolithic properties. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aimed to obtain a qualitative phytochemical profile of the methanolic extract (ME) of M. malacophylla, and to evaluate its potential cyt

A Rare Case of an Intermittent Urinary Catheter Discovered Inside a Bladder.

Foreign objects inserted through the urethra, for sexual gratification and ending up in the urinary bladder, are rarely encountered. Patients usually present at emergency departments, reporting abdominal pain, recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), or haematuria. Only a few cases present without any symptoms and are incidental findings, commonly during diagnostic work-up for bladder lithiasis or recurrent UTIs. We report a case of an encrusted intermittent catheter, discovered in the bladder of a 72-year-old female patient, with a history of multiple sclerosis (MS) and recurrent UTIs. The

[Urolithiasis-Therapy and recurrence prevention taking into account gender-specific aspects].

The prevalence of urolithiasis is steadily increasing worldwide in both genders. Diet and lifestyle, such as the rising prevalence of obesity and other metabolic syndrome traits, are considered key factors in this trend. Gender differences as a result of interventional therapy for urolithiasis have not been observed. However, iatrogenic injury to the male urethra is considered the most common reason for urethral strictures after endourologic (stone) therapy. In contrast, sepsis, as the major cause of urinary stone-related mortality, is more frequently reported in women after ureterorenoscopy a

A rendezvous technique using laparoscopy and cystoscopy to remove transmigrated intrauterine contraceptive device from abdomen and urinary bladder.

Intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs) are the most commonly used reversible contraceptive methods. Uterine perforation followed by transmigration is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication associated with the use of IUCDs. Perforation of the bladder by an IUCD is extremely rare. We present the case of a 36-year-old woman with a 3-year history of IUCD placement presenting with symptoms of lower urinary tract infection. X-ray of the pelvis and hysteroscopy revealed an inverted T-shaped metallic shadow resembling an IUCD in the pelvis and an empty uterine cavity, respectively. U

Case report: Urolithiasis, nephrolithiasis and a urinary bladder malformation in a seven-month-old alpaca cria.

Urolithiasis is a common condition in male small ruminants where predisposing factors have been identified. Occasionally, urolithiasis is diagnosed in South American camelids (SACs). However, nephrolithiasis is rarely diagnosed in ruminants. To our knowledge, this is the first report focusing on a combined appearance of nephrolithiasis and urolithiasis in an alpaca cria. A 7-month-old alpaca cria suffering from impaired urinary flow was presented for examination. On admission, the alpaca had a wet prepuce and showed a standing posture with a wide-based stance.
