Traditional Chinese medicine-related interventions for allergic conjunctivitis and vernal keratoconjunctivitis: clinical evidence, mechanistic hypotheses, and ocular surface safety considerations.

Allergic conjunctivitis (AC) and vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) are immune-mediated ocular surface diseases in which itching, conjunctival hyperemia, tearing, mucus secretion, epithelial injury and recurrence may substantially affect comfort and quality of life. Standard care is based on allergen avoidance, lubricants, topical antihistamines, mast-cell stabilizers, corticosteroids and topical immunomodulators when clinically indicated. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) modalities are used in some clinical settings as adjunctive strategies, but their evidence base is heterogeneous and shoul

Real-world effectiveness and safety of lebrikizumab in adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis: a retrospective observational study with focus on head and neck involvement.

Lebrikizumab, an anti-interleukin (IL)-13 monoclonal antibody, is a promising treatment for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD). We conducted a single-center, retrospective study in 21 adults with moderate-to-severe AD who were biologic-naïve and had failed or were intolerant to conventional systemic therapies. Patients received lebrikizumab 500 mg at weeks 0 and 2, then 250 mg every 2 weeks; those achieving complete remission at week 16 transitioned to monthly dosing. Assessments at baseline, weeks 6, 16, and 24 showed significant improvement in Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI), pr

Tear Cytokine Signature in Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis: A Chemokine-Remodeling Axis Associated with Disease Severity.

Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a chronic pediatric ocular allergy that can progress from seasonal to persistent inflammation with vision-threatening complications. Although Th2-associated mechanisms have been implicated, the immune correlates of disease severity are not well defined. Tear samples from VKC patients (moderate intermittent and moderate persistent) and healthy controls were collected using Schirmer's strips. Cytokine profiling was performed using the OLINK® Target 48 Cytokine Panel. Differential expression, correlation with clinical features, and pathway enrichment analyses

Comparative analysis of microbiota in the ocular surface of patients with atopic keratoconjunctivitis and Stevens-Johnson Syndrome with severe ocular complications.

INTRODUCTION: The interplay between host immunity and the microbiome is increasingly recognized as an important factor in ocular surface diseases. Although cutaneous and intestinal dysbiosis have been implicated in atopic dermatitis (AD), the role of the ocular microbiome in its severe ophthalmic manifestation, atopic keratoconjunctivitis (AKC), remains incompletely understood. METHODS: We performed 16S rRNA gene sequencing to characterize the ocular and fecal microbiota of patients with AD and severe AKC, AD without severe ocular involvement, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) with severe ocular

[Chinese expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric vernal keratoconjunctivitis (2026)].

Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a chronic, seasonal, recurrent, bilateral allergic inflammatory disease that predominantly affects children, severely impacting patients' quality of life. The early diagnosis rate of VKC in Chinese children is relatively low, treatment regimens vary, and clinical efficacy is difficult to guarantee. To guide the related clinical practice, the Cornea Group of Ophthalmology Branch of Chinese Medical Association, together with the Chinese Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, developed expert consensus recommendations for the diagnosis and tre

Independent Discovery of Mesomycoplasma conjunctivae in Non-Native Aoudad (Ammotragus lervia) in Texas.

Conservation of native species is an ongoing task, especially when non-native species present a threat via competition and disease transmission. In Texas, native desert bighorn sheep (DBS) compete directly with non-native aoudad for resources. Aoudad (Ammotragus lervia, also known as Barbary sheep), introduced into the United States from Africa, are competent hosts of Mesomycoplasma ovipneumoniae and are thought to be the primary reservoir for transmitting pneumonia to DBS. A recent epidemic (circa December 2025) of infectious keratoconjunctivitis (IKC) in aoudad was reported in western Texas.

Ocular Surface Disease as an Immune-related Adverse Event of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Therapy.

PURPOSE: Ocular surface disease, encompassing scleritis, episcleritis, keratitis, and sicca syndrome, is an increasingly recognized immune-related adverse event of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), yet its pharmacovigilance profile has not been systematically characterized across all approved ICI classes. We conducted a disproportionality analysis of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System to quantify reporting odds ratios (RORs) for ocular surface end points across the PD-1, PD-L1, CTLA-4, and LAG-3 inhibitor classes. METHODS: Adverse event reports were extracted from FDA Adverse Event Rep

Efficacy and safety of a new cladribine-based conditioning regimen for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in children with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia.

OBJECTIVES: Cladribine, a synthetic analog of deoxyadenosine, exhibits potent activity against hematological malignancies. While cladribine-containing regimens combined with allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) have been proposed as a potential strategy to improve outcomes in relapsed or refractory (R/R) acute myeloid leukemia (AML), additional clinical evidence is needed, particularly in pediatric populations. This single-center retrospective study aimed to describe the efficacy and safety of a cladribine-based conditioning regimen for allo-HSCT in children with R/R

Genotype-Phenotype Delineation of Autoimmune Polyendocrinopathy, Candidiasis, and Ectodermal Dystrophy in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Autoimmune Polyendocrinopathy with Candidiasis and Ectodermal Dystrophy is an extremely rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by inborn errors of immunity. It is due to a loss-of-function mutation in the AIRE autoimmune regulator gene. Its manifestations include autoimmunity affecting endocrine glands, in addition to non-endocrine manifestations including dental enamel hypoplasia, alopecia areata, hepatitis, and chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis. Globally, 10 cases per million are affected by this condition, with higher incidence in highly consanguineous populations.
