Kidney and Inferior Vena Cava abnormalities with Leg Thrombosis syndrome, an acronym for kidney and inferior vena cava abnormalities with leg thrombosis, is a rare congenital condition that predisposes young patients to deep venous thrombosis. We report on the case of an 11-year-old boy with a recent diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis who presented with right iliac fossa pain and inability to walk because of a painful flexed right lower limb. Initial ultrasound was inconclusive for appendicitis because the appendix was not visualized due to bowel gas; it showed no peritoneal fluid or intraper

Intestinal involvement by urothelial malignancy is uncommon and can obscure the primary diagnosis. We report a woman in her 70s who presented with shock, profound anemia, acute kidney injury, and bilateral hydronephrosis caused by a necrotic pelvic mass suspected to arise from the bladder. Despite resuscitation and urinary decompression, she developed abdominal distention, rising lactate levels, and respiratory decline. Exploratory laparotomy revealed combined small- and large-bowel obstruction with ischemic bowel caused by an invasive pelvic mass. Pathology from the resected small bowel showe

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: To report our multi-institutional outcomes with robotic intracorporeal ileal ureter replacement (RIUR).
METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of patients who underwent RIUR at three institutions from April 2016 to June 2025. Surgical success was defined as the absence of flank pain and of ureteral obstruction on functional imaging and/or endoscopic evaluation, and freedom from operative intervention related to RIUR at ≥6-mo follow-up.
KEY FINDINGS AND LIMITATIONS: Of 48 patients, 31 (64.6%) had unilateral and 17 (35.4%) had bilateral reconstruction. Twenty (4

Rabbits with end-stage kidney failure often develop hypercalcaemia and osteosclerosis. Secondary renal hyperparathyroidism and fibrous osteodystrophy can be experimentally induced in rabbits through nephrectomy and a low-calcium:high-phosphorus diet, but clinical case reports are rare. A thin, mixed-breed, neutered male rescue rabbit was brought to a veterinary clinic due to lameness of the right hind limb and gait difficulties. Radiographs showed severe osteodystrophy. Additionally, there was a displaced, ununited simple fracture in the right mid-femur and a healed simple fracture in the righ

Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) is a rare indolent B-cell lymphoma, characterized by lymphoplasmacytic infiltration of bone marrow and the existence of monoclonal IgM in circulation. Renal AL amyloidosis is an uncommon complication of WM, and its treatment is an enormous challenge to clinicians. This report describes a 71-year-old woman who presented with a 10-month history of recurrent bilateral lower extremity edema and a progressive fatigue. Physical and laboratory examinations revealed serum monoclonal IgMλ, nephrotic syndrome, moderate anemia and mild enlargement of bilateral inguinal

INTRODUCTION: Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare, progressive, multisystem disease primarily affecting women of reproductive age. It is characterized by the abnormal proliferation of smooth muscle-like LAM cells that infiltrate the lungs, lymphatics, and kidneys. This case highlights that the clinical value lies not in isolated features, but in the convergence of early gestational presentation, severe bilateral disease, diagnostic limitations, and the need for coordinated multidisciplinary decision-making in a resource-constrained setting.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 23-year-old pregnant woman

INTRODUCTION: Cecoureterocele is an uncommon variant of ureterocele characterized by submucosal extension of the ureterocele beyond the bladder neck into the urethra. It is usually associated with duplex collecting systems and is more commonly encountered in pediatric female patients. Clinical manifestations range from asymptomatic hydronephrosis to a prolapsing urethral mass, often posing diagnostic dilemmas.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of an 8-month-old female who presented with crying during micturition, a narrow urinary stream, and an intermittent prolapsing mass per urethra. Im

Pembrolizumab is standard adjuvant therapy for high-risk clear cell renal cell carcinoma, but serositis is an uncommon immune-related adverse event that may mimic recurrence or infection. We report a 55-year-old man who achieved no evidence of disease after nephrectomy and metastasectomy and developed anasarca, large bilateral pleural effusions, mild ascites, peripheral eosinophilia, and a small pericardial effusion after six cycles of adjuvant pembrolizumab. Pleural fluid was exudative and contained 20% eosinophils. Cytology showed inflammatory cells without evidence of malignancy; bacterial,

BACKGROUND: We present a case of two major complications following insertion of a nephrostomy managed in a minimally invasive way. Our case is the first in the literature to describe this minimally invasive treatment technique for colon perforation in a completely asymptomatic patient.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 75-year-old female patient with a history of bilateral obstructive uropathy secondary to bilateral radiation-induced ureteric strictures attended for bilateral nephrostomy placement. The patient had a history of endometrial cancer, treated previously by total hysterectomy and bilateral salpi

OBJECTIVE: Systemic amyloidosis may present with rheumatological features that mimic inflammatory arthritis, frequently leading to significant diagnostic delays. This study describes the clinical profile, patterns of organ involvement, and clinical outcomes of patients with systemic amyloidosis who presented to a rheumatology clinic.
METHODS: A retrospective observational study with review of electronic medical records from January 2010 to December 2024 at Christian Medical College, Vellore, identified patients diagnosed with amyloidosis who presented with specific rheumatological complaints.

AIMS: Cardiovascular and renal consequences of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection have been studied intensively in high-risk groups, but the consequences of mild infection for the general population, particularly beyond the acute phase of infection, remain unclear. We examined long-term associations between SARS-CoV-2 infection and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and kidney disease (KD) in the general population, with emphasis on age and vaccination status at the time of infection, mild infection, and SARS-CoV-2 variant.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We conducted a reg

Chronic leg ulcers are a significant source of morbidity in elderly patients, particularly those with multiple comorbidities. The most common etiologies are vascular, including chronic venous insufficiency, peripheral arterial disease, and diabetic neuropathy. However, ulcers that are non-healing and refractory to standard treatment may reflect rarer underlying pathologies, warranting comprehensive reassessment. We report the case of an 87-year-old woman presenting with recurrent, painful, bilateral lower-limb ulcers, persisting for 18 months on the right leg and 10 months on the left. Her med

BACKGROUND: Postoperative recurrence remains a major challenge after curative-intent resection for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and conventional clinicopathologic factors do not fully capture recurrence risk heterogeneity. Although computed tomography (CT)-derived body composition biomarkers have been associated with outcomes in NSCLC, the prognostic relevance of abdominal solid-organ volumetrics remains insufficiently characterized. We investigated whether preoperative CT-derived abdominal organ volumes and body surface area (BSA)-normalized organ indices were associated with recurrenc

BACKGROUND: NUT carcinoma (NUTc) is a rare, aggressive squamous carcinoma defined by NUTM1 rearrangements. Outcomes in head and neck (H&N) disease are poor, and no uniform treatment standard exists; available evidence largely derives from case reports and small series.
METHODS: We performed a structured narrative review of H&N NUTc with an emphasis on radiotherapy (RT) dose concepts, chemotherapy regimens, and outcome signals.
RESULTS: Published evidence indicates poor overall survival, particularly in metastatic disease. Long-term remissions have been described in selected patients with non

BACKGROUND: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) is the most common cause of vasculitis among children. However, it is a very rare cause of large artery vasculitis. The histopathology of immunoglobulin A vasculitis typically involves IgA deposits in small vessels of the dermis, joints, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract. These deposits induce an inflammatory response, activating the complement system, which explains the variety of symptoms and signs.

IgA vasculitis (IgAV) and IgA nephropathy (IgAN) are increasingly recognized as part of a disease spectrum sharing common pathogenic mechanisms involving galactose-deficient IgA1. While IgAN represents kidney-limited disease, IgAV is the systemic manifestation. The development of systemic IgA vasculitis in patients with established end-stage renal disease (ESRD) secondary to IgA nephropathy is rarely reported and presents unique diagnostic challenges. We present a case of a 51-year-old woman with ESRD secondary to IgA nephropathy on maintenance hemodialysis who presented with acute anemia, abd

Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV), formerly known as Henoch-Schönlein purpura, is a complex immune-mediated vasculitis characterized by the involvement of small blood vessels in various organ systems. We describe the case of a 14-year-old girl who developed a non-typical manifestation of vasculitis with notable rhinological features. The patient presented with a vasculitis-type rash on the hands and lower extremities bilaterally and arthralgia, while she also complained about intense nasal congestion. The laboratory results were atypical for a specific disorder, and the skin and nasal mucosa

Refractory hypertension in young adults warrants evaluation for secondary causes. Chronic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use, though common, is an underrecognized cause of chronic kidney disease that may lead to biochemical abnormalities, including electrolyte disturbances and hormonal dysregulation. A 37-year-old male presented with headache, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Examination revealed severe hypertension (210/190 mmHg) with epigastric tenderness. Electrocardiography (ECG) showed a Wellens type A pattern with Q waves. Initial laboratories revealed hyponatremia, hypokalemia

INTRODUCTION: In South Korea, the companion-dog population is strongly skewed toward a small number of small-breed purebred dogs, and distinguishing breed-type differences in recorded diagnoses from confounding by age, neuter status, and healthcare utilization is challenging in primary-care data.
METHODS: This retrospective study used electronic medical records (EMRs) from primary-care veterinary clinics in South Korea, covering January 2016-December 2024, to compare the adjusted odds of the 20 most frequently recorded diagnoses between purebred and mixed-breed dogs. Records were standardized

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are increasingly used in oncological therapy. Ocular immune-mediated adverse events are rare but may involve the cornea and progress to corneal melting or perforation. We report two male patients with metastatic malignancies who developed severe corneal disease under ICI therapy. In a 65-year-old patient with metastatic renal cell carcinoma, recurrent conjunctivitis and epithelial defects initially occurred under pembrolizumab (programmed cell death protein 1 inhibitor, PD-1 inhibitor). During the further course, bilateral anterior stromal thinning with sube
