Spontaneous polycystic kidney and liver disease in an inbred herd of Springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis) was studied by light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and microdissection. Collateral lumbar arterial blood supply to an autotransplanted kidney was angiographically documented in a patient with bilateral Wilms' tumor and postoperative transplant renal artery stenosis. During autotransplantation, most collateral pathways are interrupted. The development of a collateral circulation after autotransplantation may be postulated to begin with a vascular response to postoperative inflammation and adhesions. The small anastomotic pathways so formed may then dilate in response to ischemia resulting from renal artery stenosis.

The authors present their clinical experience in conservative surgery for renal cell carcinoma, which was performed in two cases of simultaneous bilateral tumours, in a case of neoplasm in solitary kidney, in two cases of cancers with damaged contralateral kidney and in two cases of association between cyst and small tumour. All patients are alive and without evidence of residual or recurrent malignancy with a followup ranging between 6 months and 7 years. Imaging studies on six patients with known angiomyolipomas were reviewed to determine the contribution of each imaging modality to the preoperative diagnosis. A spectrum of clinical presentations from asymptomatic patients with tuberous sclerosis to acutely ill patients with flank pain and hypotension was included. A number of well known complications and disorders force operative correction of cryptorchism, once the diagnosis of true cryptorchism is certain. In order to perform a successful orchiopexy, an extensive mobilization of the testis, up to the kidney, is sometimes needed. Recordings were made of the discharge of single fibres from renal sympathetic efferent nerves in the anaesthetized dog. Half plasma disappearance time (HDT) of endogenous erythropoietin (Ep) was measured in single rats, using an in vitro assay system for EP. In rats treated with the hepatotoxic agent d-Galactosamine-HCl (GalN), a small but significant elevation of HDT was found as compared with control rats (164 and 105 min, respectively). Extravascular lung water (EVLW) and cardiac output (CO) were determined in 21 mongrel dogs using the thermal-green dye double indicator dilution technique.
