Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome Type II with Fused Kidneys in Pelvic Cavity: A Case Report.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKH) also known as Müllerian agenesis, is caused by embryologic underdevelopment of the Mullerian duct, with resultant agenesis or atresia of the vagina, uterus, or both. Patients usually present with primary amenorrhea with normal growth and pubertal development. Here we present a case of a 29-year-old woman presented with primary amenorrhea. Secondary sexual characteristics and hormone evaluation were normal. Ultrasound and MRI were conducted and revealed complete absence of uterus, small vaginal canal. Bilateral renal fossa were empty and both the k

Desmoplastic small round cell tumor of the kidney: a case report and discussion.

A 13-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital with 1-month history of neck pain and a 2-week history of bilateral hip joint pain accompanied by low fever. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) revealed the presence of a malignant tumor in the left kidney with metastases to the left renal hilum, retroperitoneum, para-aortic lymph nodes, and multiple bone sites throughout the body. Given that the patient's left kidney capsule was intact and the boundary with surrounding tissues was clear, left nephrectomy was performed. Postoperative pathological diagnosis showed desmoplasti

Drug-Induced Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Rare Presentation of Hydralazine-Induced Lupus.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by the production of autoantibodies directed against nuclear and cytoplasmic antigens. SLE can be induced by various medications, such as hydralazine, procainamide, isoniazid, methyldopa, chlorpromazine, quinidine, and minocycline. Hydralazine-induced lupus syndrome was first reported in 1953, and only occurs in 5-10% of patients taking hydralazine. We present a case of a 76-year-old female with a past medical history of chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage II, hyperlipidemia, primary hypertension, and type II diab

A Case Report on 46,XX Male Difference of Sex Development.

The 46,XX male syndrome is a very rare disorder/difference of sex development (DSD). Characterized by a 46,XX karyotype with a male phenotype and various abnormalities, including virilized external genitalia, small testes, hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, and azoospermia. Primarily described in small population studies and clinical reports, much remains to be understood about the prevalence of clinical manifestations, treatment outcomes, and long-term follow-up in this disorder. Here we describe a 24-year-old male who sought medical attention due to a history of erectile dysfunction, associated

Ectopic adrenocorticotrophic hormone syndrome in a 10-year-old girl with a thymic neuroendocrine tumor: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Thymic neuroendocrine tumor as a cause of Cushing syndrome is extremely rare in children. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 10-year-old girl who presented with typical symptoms and signs of hypercortisolemia, including bone fractures, growth retardation, and kidney stones. The patient was managed with oral ketoconazole, during which she experienced adrenal insufficiency, possibly due to either cyclic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secretion or concurrent COVID-19 infection. The patient underwent a diagnostic work-up which indicated the possibility of an ACTH-secreting p

Multicystic renal dysplasia, a histomorphological spectrum: Seven years experience from a tertiary care hospital.

OBJECTIVES: Multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) is defined as the presence of multiple noncommunicating cysts of various sizes, detected sonographically, without evidence of functioning renal parenchyma on dimercaptosuccinic acid renal scan. It has an incidence of 1:4000 live births. They are more commonly diagnosed in boys, usually on the left side, but may also be bilateral. There is the presence of primitive ducts surrounded by fibromuscular connective tissue. These are because of the disturbed connection of the ureteric bud with renal blastema and abnormal division at the stage of metanep

Advanced Calciphylaxis in a Patient With End-Stage Renal Disease: A Case Report Highlighting Diagnostic and Therapeutic Challenges in Late-Stage Presentation.

Calciphylaxis, also known as calcific uremic arteriolopathy, is a rapidly progressive, rare, and severe condition characterized by vascular calcification and skin necrosis. The pathophysiology involves cutaneous arteriolar calcification followed by subsequent tissue ischemia and infarction, which eventually causes extremely painful skin lesions. The condition is associated with substantial morbidity due to severe pain, non-healing wounds, increased susceptibility to infections, and frequent hospitalizations. Calciphylaxis is a highly fatal condition with one-year mortality rates greater than 5

Pharmacokinetics of small hyperbranched polyglycerols as an osmotic agent for peritoneal dialysis: Plasma exposure, organ distribution and excretion in rats.

BACKGROUND: Small hyperbranched polyglycerol (HPG) has been recently of interest for peritoneal dialysis, but its pharmacokinetics is barely understood. This study investigated the absorption, distribution and excretion of 1 and 3 kDa HPG. METHODS: Rats (naive, 5/6 nephrectomy (5/6 Nx) or bilateral nephrectomy (BNx)) received a single dose of 3H-labelled HPG-containing solutions intraperitoneally (IP) or intravenously (IV). Radioactivity in tissues, urine and faeces was counted using a scintillation counter. Pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated using WinNonlin software. RESULTS: During

Subcostal transversus abdominis plane block for postoperative analgesia in liver transplant recipients: a before-and-after study.

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative pain management after orthotopic liver transplantation is complex due to impaired liver function and frequent acute kidney dysfunction. Subcostal transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block may be of interest in this population. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of subcostal TAP block on opioid consumption after liver transplantation. METHODS: We conducted a before-and-after single center study. During the first period, we included patients whom did not receive an analgesic TAP block. During the second period, we included those with bilateral ultrasound-

Comparison of sonographic and CT findings for the identification of renal nodules in dogs and cats.

Ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT) are used to diagnose neoplastic and non-neoplastic focal renal lesions in dogs and cats; however, comparative studies between these two diagnostic tools are lacking. The aim of this retrospective, methods comparison study was to evaluate and compare the performance of US compared to CT in identifying at least one renal nodule in animals with confirmed focal renal lesions. Imaging studies of animals with uni- or bilateral renal nodules smaller than 3 cm that underwent both US and CT and that had a pathologically confirmed diagnosis were reviewed

Nodulisporium Fungal Brain Abscess In Early Post-Renal Transplant: A Rare, Unexpected, Mysterious Pathogen.

BACKGROUND Central nervous system fungal infections are rarely encountered in current medicine, with fungal abscesses even less commonly seen. Clinical entities and their development largely depend on the interplay between the host's immune system and fungal virulence factors. Due to the large size of fungal organisms, they are prevented from entering the meningeal circulation. Hence, they cause focal diseases like cerebritis, abscesses, vasculitis of larger vessels, vascular occlusion, cerebral infarcts, and aneurysms. CASE REPORT A 34-year-old male patient of Indian descent diagnosed with st

A Rare Cause of Hypergonadotropic Hypogonadism: Transaldolase Deficiency in Two Siblings.

Transaldolase deficiency is a rare inborn autosomal recessive disorder caused by biallelic mutations in the TALDO1 gene. It is characterized by intrauterine growth restriction, dysmorphism, cytopenia, hepatosplenomegaly, liver cirrhosis, endocrine problems, and skin, renal and cardiac abnormalities. We present two siblings of Turkish origin with an early-onset form of transaldolase deficiency and hypergonadotropic hypogonadism in both sexes. The girl (index) was followed-up for cryptogenic cirrhosis, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, skin abnormalities, congenital heart defects, hypercalciuria,

Laparoscopic Ureterolithotomy and Single-Use Digital Flexible Ureteroscope For Unilateral Large Ureteral Stone and Small Renal Stone.

BACKGROUND The removal of concurrent ureteral and renal stones within a single procedure has always been a challenge for urological surgeons. The incorporation of single-use digital flexible ureteroscopes into laparoscopic ureterolithotomy procedures has demonstrated effective removal of concurrent stones with a good clearance rate and decreased risk of bleeding and trauma. We report the successful removal of a unilateral upper ureteral stone and a smaller renal stone with this procedure. CASE REPORT A 60-year-old man visited the outpatient clinic with an ultrasonography report that revealed a

Adult-Onset IgA Vasculitis Associated With Pulmonary-Renal Syndrome Following COVID-19 Infection: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Immunoglobulin A (IgA) vasculitis, also known as Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP), is an immune complex-mediated inflammation of small blood vessels that leads to tissue destruction with or without organ damage. We described a case of a 41-year-old otherwise healthy female who presented with an ascending rash distributed on both lower extremities and arthralgia. Blood testing revealed high blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, and inflammatory markers, as well as a negative autoimmune panel. Urinalysis revealed proteinuria and hematuria. A kidney biopsy was performed, which revealed abnormaliti

The Effectiveness and Safety of Acupuncture on Suicidal Behavior: A Systematic Review.

In situations where death by suicide is a major global issue and effective prevention and management approaches are lacking, acupuncture improves some risk factors for suicide, including depression, and it has been used for a long time in clinical settings. Herein, we aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of suicidal behaviors. Fourteen electronic databases were searched for studies published up to 7 September 2022. Original interventional studies of acupuncture in suicide prevention were included. The primary outcome was the validated measure of suicidal

Rac1 inhibition protects the kidney against kidney ischemia/reperfusion through the inhibition of macrophage migration.

Kidney ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, a common cause of acute kidney injury (AKI), is associated with the migration of inflammatory cells into the kidney. Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate 1 (Rac1), a member of the Rho family of small GTPase, plays an important role in inflammatory cell migration by cytoskeleton rearrangement. Here, we investigated the role of Rac1 on kidney I/R injury and macrophage migration. Male mice were subjected to either 25 min of bilateral ischemia followed by reperfusion (I/R) or a sham operation. Some mice were administrated with either NSC23766, an inhib

The protective effect of H151, a novel STING inhibitor, in renal ischemia-reperfusion-induced acute kidney injury.

Renal ischemia-reperfusion (RIR)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common renal functional disorder with high morbidity and mortality. Stimulator of interferon (IFN) genes (STING) is the cytosolic DNA-activated signaling pathway that mediates inflammation and injury. Our recent study showed that extracellular cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (eCIRP), a newly identified damage-associated molecular pattern, activates STING and exacerbates hemorrhagic shock. H151 is a small molecule that selectively binds to STING and inhibits STING-mediated activity. We hypothesized that H151 attenuates e

Liquid Biopsies Poorly miRror Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is the rapid reduction in renal function. It is often difficult to detect at an early stage. Biofluid microRNAs (miRs) have been proposed as novel biomarkers due to their regulatory role in renal pathophysiology. The goal of this study was to determine the overlap in AKI miRNA profiles in the renal cortex, urine, and plasma samples collected from a rat model of ischemia-reperfusion (IR)-induced AKI. Bilateral renal ischemia was induced by clamping the renal pedicles for 30 min, followed by reperfusion. Urine was then collected over 24 h, followed by terminal blood and
