A comprehensive review of resistome profiles in ocular pathogens: Insights into Pseudomonas aeruginosa and emerging resistance trends.

Eye infections are a significant area of microbial adaptation and therapeutic challenge, as antibiotic resistance threatens vision. In the last ten years, our knowledge of the ocular resistome has expanded through genomics and molecular epidemiology. An analysis of global evidence from 2015 to 2025 on the resistance architecture of major ocular pathogens will be presented, with a focus on Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa). The organism shows remarkable genomic flexibility by incorporating intrinsic resistance elements, biofilm-mediated tolerance, and by acquiring ARGs such as blaVIM, blaG

Shared genetic architecture of psychiatric disorders and ocular diseases: Evidence from genome-wide analyses.

OBJECTIVE: Psychiatric disorders are frequently comorbid with ocular diseases, yet the shared genetic basis and potential causal links remain unclear. This study aimed to systematically investigate the shared genetic architecture, bidirectional causality, and implicated biological pathways between common psychiatric disorders and ocular diseases. METHODS: We analyzed four psychiatric disorders and eight ocular diseases using an integrative genome-wide analytical framework. We used linkage disequilibrium score regression (LDSC) to estimate genome-wide genetic correlations and local genetic cor

Anatomical Reconstruction of Severe Ectropion With Lazy Pentagonal Wedge Resection: A Case Report.

Involutional ectropion is defined as the acquired eversion of the eyelid margin, most frequently affecting the lower eyelid, that occurs due to age-related changes in the eyelid supporting structures. We present a novel application of the lazy pentagonal wedge resection technique as a stand-alone procedure for the correction of severe involutional ectropion. While the technique is traditionally described for excising eyelid margin tumors or lesions, its use as a primary method for involutional ectropion repair has not been substantially documented in the current literature. This case, therefor

Pigmented Allergic Salute Sign in an Adult With Dark Skin: Clinical and Dermoscopic Features.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation due to chronic mechanical friction is well recognized in individuals with darker skin types, yet the pigmented variant of the allergic salute sign remains rarely documented. We report a 40-year-old woman with a persistent transverse hyperpigmented band over the nasal dorsum, associated with long-standing allergic rhinitis and recurrent conjunctivitis. She described habitual upward rubbing of the nose due to intense pruritus. Clinical examination revealed a sharply demarcated dark linear band above the nasal tip. Dermoscopy demonstrated a homogeneous dark pse

Update on allergen immunotherapy for asthma.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The usefulness of allergen-specific immunotherapy for asthma is controversial. Publications from 2024 and 2025 on allergen immunotherapy for asthma will be reviewed. RECENT FINDINGS: A trial of house dust mite for asthma was strikingly positive for a subset of patients with variant alleles in chromosome 17q12-21. A trail of cockroach immunotherapy for asthma was negative based on nasal challenge. However, there were promising effects on T cells. New allergen-specific vaccines using allergoids and adjuvants are being developed in Europe and look promising for reducing the nu

BACKGROUND: Inborn errors of immunity (IEI), previously referred to as primary immunodeficiencies, are a heterogeneous group of genetic disorders affecting immune development and function. While once considered rare, IEIs are increasingly recognized, particularly in regions with high consanguinity rates. Cutaneous manifestations, as well as ocular and hair abnormalities, may provide early and clinically relevant diagnostic clues. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, types, and diagnostic value of cutaneous, ocular and hair manifestations in patients with IEI. METHODS: A total of 386 pat

In situ Hybridization to Study the Pathogenicity of North American Avian Metapneumovirus Subtypes A and B in Turkeys.

Avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) is a highly contagious upper respiratory pathogen that causes significant economic losses in both chickens and turkeys. Globally, there are four antigenically distinct subgroups, A, B, C, and D, based on the sequence of glycoprotein G. Subgroups A and B emerged recently in the US, causing several outbreaks in chickens and turkeys, resulting in high morbidity and mortality rates, as well as a decline in egg production. aMPV primarily infects the upper respiratory tract and eyelids/conjunctiva. In-situ Hybridization (ISH) is a molecular tool that localizes specific n
