Endoscopic Examination of Mitrofanoff Channel Findings and Subsequent Surgical Change of Management-Observations From a 2-Year Patient Cohort.

INTRODUCTION: A Mitrofanoff channel is a continent catheterisable channel, most commonly constructed from the appendix or small bowel (Monti channel) to provide an alternative to the urethra for intermittent catheterization. It is imperative for patients to be counselled on the risks of channel complications, including stomal stenosis, recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTI), and, less commonly, incontinence. Endoscopy of the Mitrofanoff (Mitrofanoscopy), is a diagnostic tool employed in these scenarios to visualize the channel and bladder. Herein, we aim to characterize the findings of Mitr

[A CASE OF MALIGNANCY ARISING IN A NEOBLADDER MORE THAN 50 YEARS AFTER RECONSTRUCTION].

A 75-year-old woman who had undergone right nephrectomy, total cystectomy, and orthotopic neobladder reconstruction using a free intestinal segment in 196X (precise diagnosis and surgical details unknown) presented with discomfort during urine storage and pain during urination. She was referred to our department in October 202Y, and urine cytology was positive. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed direct anastomosis of the free intestinal segment to the bladder neck, with a nodular tumor in the lumen. Cystoscopy revealed a nodular tumor with an abnormal surface vasculature inside the neobladder

Using intravesical botulinum toxin as an adjunct during urologic surgery: a systematic review.

PURPOSE: Intravesical onabotulinum toxin-A (BTX-A) has been studied as a curative therapy for overactive bladder (OAB), neurogenic bladder, and interstitial cystitis. Limited evidence supports adjunctive BTX-A during urologic surgeries to reduce bladder spasms and improve outcomes. This study examines the role of adjunctive BTX-A at the time of urologic surgery. METHODS: A literature search of four databases (MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) was performed for studies describing adjunctive BTX-A during urologic surgery and its impact primarily on quality of life and urina

Transvaginal vesicovaginal fistula repair-high success with low morbidity despite radiation or prior repair.

INTRODUCTION: Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) surgical repair can be done transvaginal or transabdominal, laparoscopic, or robotic. Controversy exists regarding optimal approach, especially in those who have had prior radiation treatment, and those with prior VVF repair. We aimed to review our large fistula cohort to determine the success of transvaginal VVF repair. METHODS: Between 1995 and 2022, 83 women with VVF underwent transvaginal VVF repair. All data were captured in a prospective database. Transvaginal approach involved multi-layer closure with monofilament absorbable sutures and local fl

Use of fibrin glue versus martius flap interposition in Trans-vaginal vesicovaginal fistula repair: A prospective randomized trial.

INTRODUCTION: In vesicovaginal fistula repair, studies have shown the utility of fibrin glue as interpositioning layer. Our goal in this study is to determine the effectiveness of fibrin glue as an interpositioning layer versus martius flap interposition and primary healing alone. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We prospectively analyzed 64 patients over a period of 24 months from February, 2023 to January, 2025 and divided them as group-A in which fistulas were repaired anatomically using fibrin glue interpositioning, group-B in which fistulas were treated using only primary repair and group-C in whi

Recurrent Diverticulitis Complicated by Colovesicular Fistula and Multiloculated Abscesses Formation: A Bounce-Back Case Emphasizing Diagnostic Pitfalls and Multidisciplinary Management.

Diverticulitis complications, though rare, carry high morbidity. We present a 64-year-old male patient with multiple comorbidities who returned to the emergency department (ED) 27 days following hospital admission for acute diverticulitis with recurrence of the same, now complicated by colovesicular fistula, prostatitis, and multiloculated abscesses despite initial antibiotic therapy. Initial exam findings of tachycardia, and an appreciated boggy and severely tender prostate prompted timely/aggressive diagnostics and treatment. Computed tomography (CT) with intravenous (IV) contrast revealed a

Prognostic Factors of Transvaginal Repair for Vesicovaginal Fistulas: A 5-Year Single-Center Study.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) causes significant physical and psychosocial morbidity. Transvaginal repair, although generally safer than the abdominal route, lacks guideline-defined predictors of surgical success. However, recent trials have suggested that certain factors may influence surgical success. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted in a single-center hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia, between January 2020 and December 2024. Fistulas were classified using the Goh and Waaldijk systems. Data on patient demographics were collected preoperatively, and dat

Aortoesophageal fistula caused by Mycobacterium bovis following intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guérin therapy: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy is an established treatment for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, involving direct instillation of a solution containing attenuated Mycobacterium bovis into the bladder. Although generally well-tolerated, rare vascular complications, including mycotic aneurysms and aortoenteric fistulas, have been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 76-year-old Japanese man who developed an aortoesophageal fistula three years after completing intravesical BCG therapy for superficial bladder carcinoma. The patient initially prese

Improving obstetric fistula care in Africa: A scoping review of key components of repair programs.

Obstetric fistula is a preventable childbirth injury caused by prolonged labor without timely care, primarily affecting women in sub-Saharan Africa, resulting in incontinence, stigma, and social and economic consequences. While surgical repair is essential, post-repair support and community reintegration are critical for recovery. The purpose of this scoping review was to assess key elements of obstetric fistula repair programs in Africa, including outreach and program delivery. A search of four databases and relevant websites was conducted to identify primary research published between 2014 a
