INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Vesico-vaginal fistula (VVF) is an abnormal bladder-vagina communication causing continuous urinary incontinence. This prospective study compares the efficiency and outcomes of pneumovesicoscopy (PV) versus laparoscopy (LA) for repairing simple to intermediate fistulas.
METHODS: Fifty female patients, primarily with iatrogenic simple and intermediate VVF following hysterectomy, were assigned to either the PV group (N = 25) or the LA group (N = 25) at a tertiary care center in India. Evaluated outcomes included operative time, blood loss, hospital stay length, and

Vesico-cutaneous fistula is a rare complication following prostate cancer treatment, often involving a complex interplay between prior radiation and subsequent instrumentation. We present a case of a 71-year-old male presenting with acute medial thigh sepsis. Imaging revealed a vesico-cutaneous fistula tracking from a posterior-inferior bladder defect, through the pubic symphysis (causing osteomyelitis), and into the adductor compartment. Though a salvage cystectomy was not feasible, urinary diversion alone was successful in ameliorating the patient's symptoms and achieving clinical control. T

Urological involvement in Crohn's disease is rare and most often associated with enterovesical fistulas. However, reactive thickening of the bladder wall without true fistulous communication is rarely described and may suggest a malignant bladder tumour. We report the case of a 63-year-old man presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms and gross haematuria. The results of imaging and cystoscopy initially suggested a bladder tumour. Further examinations revealed fistulous Crohn's disease with an inflammatory collection above the bladder causing marked reactive thickening of the bladder dome,

BACKGROUND: Vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis (VUAS) is a rare but complex complication following radical prostatectomy (RP), with an incidence ranging from 0.5% to 33% depending on surgical approach, surgeon experience and prior radiotherapy. Risk factors include intraoperative bleeding, urinary leakage, infection and adjuvant treatments. Despite advances in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, VUAS remains a significant cause of morbidity, often compromising urinary function and quality of life. Our objective is to evaluate the surgical and functional outcomes of perineal vesicourethral

Radiotherapy of the pelvis and abdomen can have significant negative long-term effects on the bladder and urethra. Applying the PICO criteria, we reviewed the MEDLINE/PUBMED databases over a 10-year period for literature on the incidence and prevalence of late adverse effects of radiotherapy on the lower urinary tract; the work-up and management of these adverse effects. Overactive bladder, hemorrhagic cystitis, fistula, stress urinary incontinence, bladder neck contracture, urethral stricture, and secondary malignancy were investigated as late complications of radiotherapy on the bladder and

BACKGROUND: Vesicosigmoid fistula is a rare and complex pathological connection between the urinary and digestive systems, most often caused by calculi, diverticulitis, or malignancy. In elderly patients, surgical repair of the fistula and stoma reversal carry high risks, particularly when complicated by dysfunction of multiple organ systems such as the heart, lungs, and kidneys. This case aims to summarize the perioperative risk assessment and comprehensive management strategies for an elderly patient undergoing stoma reversal after vesicosigmoid fistula repair. CASE PRESENTATION: A 73-year-o

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Urethral diverticula have various morphological patterns, and in complex cases, a transvaginal approach can be difficult.
METHODS: Here, we report a case in which a urethral diverticulum originating from the ventral (posterior) side of the urethra penetrated the bladder through the diverticular wall. A 54-year-old premenopausal woman was diagnosed with a urethral diverticulum on the ventral side of the urethra and a communicating branch penetrating from the diverticular wall to the bladder, triggered by recurrent cystitis. Surgical treatment consisted of transvagi

Calcification of indwelling urinary catheters is a known complication of prolonged urinary catheterization. It is caused by the formation of a bacterial biofilm, which promotes the accumulation of calcium deposits around the balloon. These deposits can lead to recurrent urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and, more rarely, bladder wall damage that can progress in the long term to a vesicovaginal fistula. We report the case of a 56-year-old woman living in a rural area who presented with persistent vaginal urinary incontinence. The patient reported having a urinary catheter that had been

BACKGROUND: Vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis (VUAS) remains a challenging sequela of radical prostatectomy (RP).
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate endoscopic outcomes in men with VUAS using a patient-centred composite endpoint of concurrent urethral patency and continence.
DESIGN: Retrospective, single-centre consecutive case series.
METHODS: We analysed 60 consecutive men treated endoscopically for VUAS (2014-2023). Primary endpoints were urethral patency (passage of a 20F catheter at 6-month follow-up) and continence (0-1 pad/day at last follow-up; for men with an artificial urinary sphincter (A

Vesicovaginal fistulas occur in approximately one out of 1800 hysterectomy cases in Western world countries. Various surgical techniques for fistula repair are described in the literature. This research seeks to introduce our uniform operative technique and assess the results of minimally invasive robot-guided vesicovaginal fistula closure employing a peritoneal flap insert. From 2011 to 2022, surgery was performed on a total of 21 individuals. Nineteen patients developed vesicovaginal fistulas following hysterectomy, while two presented with more complex fistula formations. We evaluated surgi

A 71-year-old male patient with a history of bladder neoplasia underwent Bricker-type surgery, during which an iatrogenic rectal injury occurred. During surgery, an unsuccessful suture attempt was made, leading to the appearance of fecaluria after 48 hours. A computed tomography scan revealed a small continuity defect in the rectal wall, accompanied by a 25-mm adjacent collection. Percutaneous drainage was placed in an attempt to achieve spontaneous closure, but this was unsuccessful. A rectoscopy was performed, identifying a wall defect in the mid-rectum. A review with a paediatric gastroscop

Caudal duplication syndrome (CDS) is an extremely rare congenital anomaly involving variable duplication of genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and neural structures. We report a male infant with complete duplication of the bladder, urethra, prostate, penis, scrotum, and colon, associated with a tethered spinal cord and a colovesical fistula. The fistula was not identified on initial imaging and was detected only during intraoperative cystoscopy and cystogram, underscoring the diagnostic limitations of early radiologic evaluation in CDS. Management was staged and prioritized according to function

BACKGROUND: Midurethral sling placement is often performed during prolapse repair to treat or prevent stress urinary incontinence. However, some women experience persistent or new-onset stress or urgency urinary incontinence after surgery. It is unclear how prolapse repair, with or without a concomitant midurethral sling, alters urethral morphology and support, and how these changes relate to urinary continence outcomes.
OBJECTIVES: To compare postoperative urethral morphology (dimensions, angles, shape) and support (position, mobility) after transvaginal prolapse repair with vs without a con

BACKGROUND: Managing neurogenic bladder patients with low detrusor leak pressures remains a major challenge in pediatric urology. Bladder augmentation combined with bladder neck resistance procedures is frequently indicated, although outcomes vary according to the technique used. We report early to midterm outcomes of an original bladder neck closure method-the Longitudinal Inside-Out (LIO) technique-used at our center since 2008.
METHODS: A retrospective review of the bladder reconstruction database at NUPEP/CACAU Pediatric Urology Center (UNIFESP) was performed. All surgeries were conducted

INTRODUCTION: Rectovesical fistula (RVF) is a rare complication after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) (1), often requiring complex surgery (2). Robotic systems provide dexterity and visualization for deep pelvic procedures (3, 4). We report the first RVF repair using the Hugo™ RAS System.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 76-year-old male developed fecaluria one week after catheter removal following RARP. MRI revealed a 1.3 cm fistulous tract between the bladder and rectum. Initial management included transurethral and suprapubic catheters, plus a loop colostomy. Robotic repair was perform

BACKGROUND: Posterior bladder-associated pelvic cystic lesions in male infants are diagnostically challenging, particularly when congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract coexist. Deep pelvic cystic lesions may mimic mesenteric cyst, bladder duplication, bladder diverticulum, ectopic ureter-related pathology, seminal vesicle cyst, or Zinner-spectrum malformation.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a male infant born at 39 weeks' gestation with severe right kidney atrophy, a functionally solitary left kidney with hydroureteronephrosis, a posterior bladder-associated pelvic cystic lesion,
