A Case of Bladder Rupture Initially Misdiagnosed as Ascites Due to Alcoholic Liver Disease.

Bladder rupture is a rare condition, typically associated with trauma but occasionally occurring spontaneously. Non-traumatic bladder rupture is particularly challenging to diagnose due to its non-specific symptoms. This case report presents a bladder rupture initially misdiagnosed as ascites due to alcoholic liver disease. A 59-year-old man presented with progressive abdominal distension without abdominal pain or urinary symptoms. His medical history included diabetes, asthma, dyslipidemia, and chronic alcohol consumption. Laboratory tests showed renal impairment but no significant liver dysf

Radiotherapy-Related Bladder Fistula: A Hidden Cause of Recurrent Abdominal Symptoms.

BACKGROUND Non-traumatic bladder rupture, a rare yet potentially life-threatening condition, can stem from diverse factors such as malignancies, bladder inflammation, or bladder diverticulum rupture. Pelvic radiotherapy, in extremely rare instances, can lead to radiation cystitis and subsequent bladder fistula formation. Patients with such conditions often present with abdominal pain, hematuria, oliguria, and urinary ascites. The diagnosis of radiotherapy-related bladder fistula poses significant challenges, particularly in patients with protracted illnesses and atypical abdominal symptoms, as

Spontaneous rupture of bladder diverticulum with pseudo renal failure:A case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous or non-traumatic bladder rupture is rare but can be life-threatening. Bladder rupture caused by a diverticulum is extremely rare, with only a few case reports in medical literature. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 32-year-old woman admitted to hospital complaints of abdominal pain, oliguria and ascites with no history of trauma. Laboratory tests revealed an elevated serum urea nitrogen(UN) level of 33.5 mmol/l and an elevated creatinine levels of 528 umol/l. X-ray cystography confirmed the rupture of a bladder diverticulum. Subsequent transurethral catheteri

The diagnostic challenge of non-traumatic bladder rupture: a pictorial essay.

Non-traumatic bladder rupture (NTBR) is relative rare pathology including spontaneous rupture and iatrogenic injury. As increasing the medical intervention for the pelvic malignancy or elderly population, NTBR will be encountered more frequently. There are few previous studies summarizing the imaging features of NTBR. We reviewed imaging characteristics of 18 previous cases of NTBR experienced. In addition, 3 presentative cases that can be a pitfall to differentiate from NTBR. The aim of this article is to clarify the key CT findings of NTBR and its pitfalls.

Spontaneous bladder rupture after non-traumatic vaginal delivery: a rare case report.

Spontaneous bladder rupture (SBR) is a rare condition and often missed diagnosis, especially after a non traumatic vaginal delivery. A 32-year-old para 3 woman, consulted for abdominal pain and anuria two days after instrumental vaginal delivery with forceps for foetal distress in second sate of labour. Blood tests were suggestive of an acute renal failure. An abdominocentesis revealed a clear fluid looking like ascites. The ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) scan showed a large abdominal effusion. An exploratory laparoscopy revealed a bladder perforation which was sutured after laparotom

Delayed Iatrogenic Bladder Rupture Diagnosed by POCUS in the Emergency Department.

Bladder rupture is an uncommon injury that leads to significant morbidity and mortality. Though occurring mostly due to trauma, this life-threatening pathology may also occur spontaneously or after a procedure such as transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). Computed tomography (CT) cystography is the standard imaging modality for diagnosis. However, this test is unlikely to be ordered in a patient with undifferentiated abdominal pain unless there is specific suspicion for this diagnosis. In our emergency department, a 48 year-old male with history of bladder cancer and TURBT two week

Non-traumatic bladder rupture.

Spontaneous bladder rupture, while rare, carries a high risk of morbidity and mortality if left untreated. Here, we describe a case report of spontaneous bladder rupture in a patient initially presenting with foley malfunction. Despite foley replacement, the patient continued to endorse abdominal pain and clinically deteriorate, thus raising our suspicion for possible bladder rupture. Recognizing and understanding the different variations of spontaneous bladder rupture is paramount for timely appropriate intervention.

Spontaneous ureteric rupture due to high pressure chronic retention.

Spontaneous ureteric rupture is a rare phenomenon which can be traumatic or non-traumatic that may arise from ureteric obstruction, trauma, mucosal inflammation from urolithiasis, connective tissue disease or retroperitoneal fibrosis. High pressure chronic retention is characterised by noctural enuresis, a tense palpable bladder, hypertension, progressive renal impairment, bilateral hydronephrosis and hydroureter on imaging. Obstructive urological symptoms are typically absent in uncomplicated cases. We report the case of a 69-year-old male who presented with high pressure chronic retention an

Successful resolution of urothorax secondary to non-traumatic uroabdomen in a cat managed with peritoneal dialysis as a bridge to surgery.

CASE SUMMARY: A 9-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair cat was presented for evaluation of severe hemodynamic collapse and suspected lower urinary tract disease. On admission, severe metabolic acidosis, hyperkalemia and azotemia, and electrocardiographic findings consistent with cardiotoxicity were identified. The diagnosis of uroabdomen was made based on abdominal fluid to plasma concentration ratios of creatinine and potassium. A central line catheter was placed percutaneously into the abdomen for peritoneal drainage and used for peritoneal dialysis as a bridge to surgery. Retrograde co

A Rare Case of Pelvic Abscess Due to Spontaneous Non-traumatic Bladder Rupture.

Spontaneous bladder rupture is an uncommon and life-threatening urological emergency, and early diagnosis is often challenging. Herein, we report a case of intraperitoneal bladder rupture in an 81-year-old male with neurogenic bladder-the case of intraperitoneal bladder rupture required late laparotomy for pelvic abscess following initial conservative treatment. An eighty-one-year-old male presented to our emergency department with deterioration of consciousness, fever, and hematuria. He denied previous trauma history and had been treated for neurogenic bladder. Physical examination revealed s

Spontaneous rupture of the renal calyx secondary to a vesicoureteral junction calculus.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous urinary collecting system rupture is caused by increased ureteral intraluminal pressure secondary to an obstruction. Rarely, a small stone exerts high intraureteral pressure especially if it is located distally. Many management modalities with good outcomes have been implicated. PURPOSE: Herein, we present a case of nontraumatic rupture of the renal calyx due to a 4 mm obstructing stone at the vesicoureteral junction. BASIC PROCEDURES: CT scan of abdomen and pelvis without contrast, CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis with intravenous contrast, Cystoscopy, Double-J uret

A case of spontaneous urinary bladder rupture secondary to urinary retention due to an urethral stricture.

A spontaneous, non-traumatic, urinary bladder rupture is a rare condition. We describe a case of a 23-year-old male with a spontaneous bladder rupture secondary to urinary retention, due to an urethral stricture. He presented to the emergency department with voiding difficulties, severe abdominal pain and renal failure. Abdominal ultrasound revealed large amounts of ascites. After an unsuccessful attempt to place a Foley catheter a cystoscopy was performed which showed an urethral stricture. On CT-cystogram an intra-peritoneal bladder rupture was diagnosed and the patient underwent laparoscopi

Nontraumatic urinary bladder rupture presenting as renal pseudo-failure and ascites.

A 24-year-old man, with past medical history significant only for nocturnal enuresis until the age of 12 years, presented to the emergency department with acute abdominal pain after an episode of difficulty with micturition in the middle of the night. On presentation, physical examination was suggestive of ascites and laboratories revealed an elevated serum creatinine of 1.88 mg/dL. He was subsequently found to have a ruptured bladder, without any inciting trauma, which required surgical repair. His only surgical history is an unknown, apparently urologic, surgery when he was 11-12 years old.

Rupture of a non-traumatic anterior communicating artery aneurysm: Does location of aneurysm associate with functional independence following post-acute in-patient neurorehabilitation?

OBJECTIVE: Patients with non-traumatic rupture of an aneurysm located at the anterior communicating artery (ACoA) often experience cognitive disabilities. It is unknown whether location of aneurysm also affects the possibility for improvement in functional independence compared to patients with an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (a-SAH) located elsewhere. The aim was to explore the association between location of aneurysm (ACoA versus other) and level of functional independence, measured by Functional Independence Measure (FIM), at discharge from rehabilitation. Additionally, age and FIM at

Spontaneous Bladder Rupture and Pelvic Fracture Due To Bladder Cancer.

Bladder rupture is a rare complication following bladder cancer, but has a high mortality rate. Since bladder rupture is an emergency, the diagnosis and treatment of the cancer is usually delayed. Here we report a 56-year-old male patient who presented to our emergency department with severe abdominal pain, abdominal distension, left leg pain and difficulty in walking without history of significant trauma and ended up with diagnoses of spontaneous bladder rupture and non-traumatic pelvic fracture caused by bladder carcinoma.

Spontaneous Perforation of the UPJ: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Spontaneous rupture of the ureter is an uncommon condition defined by non-traumatic extravasation of urine. Causative factors leading to rupture include urinary calculi, malignancies, instrumentation or trauma. Ureteral rupture can lead to numerous complications, including abscess formation, urinomas, and urosepsis. Minimal literature is available regarding spontaneous ureteral perforation, especially at the ureteropelvic junction. We present a rare case of spontaneous perforation of the ureter at the ureteropelvic junction caused by an undiagnosed non-compliant bladder. This case illustrates
