AIM: The pathological outcome after radical cystectomy and orthotopic bladder substitution in women and the possibility of genital sparing are studied in a prospective way.
METHODS: Between January 1995 and June 2003, 180 women with bladder cancer (mean age 50.6 years) underwent orthotopic neobladder reconstruction. Histopathologic assessment of the cystectomy specimens was performed. Involvement of the internal genitalia by primary or secondary cancer was evaluated by preoperative CT or MRI. Histopathological evaluation of these organs was made in the cystectomy specimens.

PURPOSE: Many institutions have reported varied levels of success with ureterocystoplasty. Recently, there have been concerns regarding the efficacy of ureterocystoplasty as a form of bladder augmentation. We report our long-term functional outcomes with the procedure based on the experience of a single surgeon.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 17 procedures were performed during a 12-year period. Of the patients 10 had posterior urethral valves, 3 had bladder exstrophy, 2 had a neuropathic bladder, 1 had a cloacal anomaly and 1 had a left ectopic ureter. Mean patient age at operation was 5.

PURPOSE: One measure of a successful outcome of meatoplasty for symptomatic urethral meatal stenosis has traditionally been witnessed voiding and subjective assessment of urinary stream. This evaluation is flawed by nonobjective criteria and potential differing interpretations by different clinicians. Rectourethral fistula is a potentially devastating disease for the patient and difficult management problem for the physician. We report a case of radiation and salvage cryoablation-induced rectourethral fistula for treatment of prostate cancer successfully repaired with a combined endorectal advancement flap with Alloderm graft. The surgical technique is described in detail. The patient is now one year post-repair with no evidence of recurrence.

We report the case of a 78-year-old man with metastatic transitional-cell carcinoma with squamous differentiation that responded dramatically to the monoclonal antibody agent, bevacizumab. OBJECTIVE: To compare the results of a one-stage penile flap or graft urethroplasty.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Sixty-three patients had a penile urethroplasty using one-stage techniques; 18 (29%) had a one-stage flap urethroplasty and 45 (71%) a one-stage urethroplasty using skin (23) or oral mucosal (22) grafts. PURPOSE: There is limited literature examining urethral reconstruction in patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunction. We describe our experience of urethral reconstruction in men with concurrent neurogenic bladder.
