Contrast-Associated Acute Kidney Injury in Oncology Patients During Active Chemotherapy: A Saudi Arabian Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND Contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) is a recognized complication in oncology patients undergoing contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) during chemotherapy. Limited data exist on CA-AKI incidence in patients with preserved baseline renal function, particularly in Middle Eastern populations. MATERIAL AND METHODS We conducted a retrospective analysis of 146 adult oncology patients with baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) greater than 50 mL/min/1.73 m² who underwent CECT within 45 days of chemotherapy at a tertiary cancer center in Saudi Arabia (Janu

Vitamin B12 Intake and Diabetic Kidney Disease: A NHANES-Based Cross-Sectional Study with Transcriptomic Identification of P2RY14.

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a major diabetic complication, and the association between vitamin B12 intake and DKD remains unclear. This cross-sectional study included 8,218 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2018. Multivariable logistic regression showed that participants in the highest vitamin B12 intake quartile had lower odds of DKD than those in the lowest quartile (Odds ratio (OR): 0.70; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.50-0.97). Restricted cubic spline analysis indicated a significant nonlinear association between vitamin B12 intake a

Evaluating Gates' GFR accuracy in renal tumor patients through integration of standalone CT-derived renal depth estimation via deep learning segmentation: a preliminary study.

BACKGROUND: Gates' Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) measurement via SPECT dynamic renal scintigraphy is common in clinical practice. However, its accuracy is limited by the variability of renal depth (RD) estimated by the conventional height- and weight-based Tonnesen formula, particularly in patients with renal tumors. This study compared a novel standalone CT RD estimation via deep learning segmentation and GFR measurement method against the Tonnesen formula between renal tumor and non-tumor groups, using the double plasma sample method (DPSM) as the reference standard. METHODS: A retrospec

Caregiver-implemented standardized-to-individualized behavior-analytic toilet-training package for preschoolers with autism.

Children with autism often face challenges with incontinence and may benefit from more structured toilet training relative to neurotypical children. In the current study, we evaluated a standardized-to-individualized behavior-analytic toilet-training package with caregivers as the interventionists. We used telehealth to train caregivers remotely to support their implementation of the procedures and obtain additional data on implementation and outcomes. Four preschool-aged children with autism and their caregivers participated. Three of four participants met mastery criteria with a standardized

Genomic Landscape Underlying Biofilm Formation Diversity in Nakaseomyces glabratus Clinical Isolates.

Biofilm formation is a key determinant of persistence and pathogenicity in fungal infections, yet the genetic basis underlying its variability among clinical isolates remains poorly understood. In this study, a collection of 95 N. glabratus clinical isolates was analyzed in terms of biofilm formation capacity, revealing large phenotypic diversity. Interestingly, urinary tract associated isolates were found to produce, on average, twice as much biofilm as the remaining isolates. A more in-depth analysis was carried out focusing on a selection of three of the lowest biofilm producing and four of

Oleanolic Acid Alleviates Diabetic Nephropathy by Inhibiting Ferroptosis Involving the Activation of the NRF2/HO-1 Pathway.

Oleanolic acid (OA), a pentacyclic triterpenoid found in agricultural products such as grapes and olives, exhibits potential in alleviating diabetic nephropathy (DN). We validated its renoprotective effects using high-fat diet/streptozotocin (HFD/STZ)-induced diabetic mice and high glucose-stimulated HK-2 cells. Network pharmacology predicted ferroptosis and the NRF2/HO-1 axis as key targets, which was supported by molecular docking and dynamics simulations indicating stable binding. Mechanistically, OA treatment upregulated the NRF2/HO-1 pathway, which was associated with the inhibition of fe

Nephrometry scores differ in their association with warm ischemia time during robot-assisted partial nephrectomy: comparison of RENAL, RPN, PADUA, and SPARE.

Nephrometry systems are widely used before robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN), but their relation to intraoperative complexity may differ. We compared RENAL, RPN, PADUA, and SPARE using continuous warm ischemia time (WIT) and assessed whether the scores added information beyond tumor diameter and routine clinical variables. We retrospectively analyzed 579 single-tumor RAPN cases with complete data for all four scores (2016-2023). Associations with WIT were assessed using Spearman correlations and patient-level paired bootstrap comparisons. Tumor diameter was evaluated as an additional c

Co-delivery of siPD-L1 and Tat-HSPB1 by G5PBA Enhances the Efficacy of Antitumor Therapy in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common subtype of renal cell carcinoma and remains challenging to treat at advanced stages due to immune evasion and inefficient intracellular delivery of therapeutic agents. In this study, we synthesized a modified generation 5 (G5) poly(amidoamine) dendrimer (G5PBA) to co-deliver small-interfering RNA targeting programmed death-ligand 1 (siPD-L1) and the antitumor peptide Tat-HSPB1, forming the G5PBA/siPD-L1/Tat-HSPB1 nanocomplex. The agarose gel retardation assay demonstrated that G5PBA efficiently condensed siPD-L1. Furthermore, the pepti

HucMSC-EVs attenuate renal fibrosis via miR-874-3p-mediated inhibition of cGAS-STING signaling.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by progressive renal interstitial fibrosis, which is closely associated with tubular epithelial cell injury, mitochondrial dysfunction, and aberrant inflammatory signaling. Our previous studies demonstrated that extracellular vesicles derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HucMSC-EVs) effectively alleviate renal fibrosis in a unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model. Based on these findings, the present study further investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the anti-fibrotic effects of HucMSC-EVs. Using a cisplatin-ind
