European Urogynaecological Association Position Statement: Implantable Devices for Female Stress Incontinence Surgery.

The European Urogynecological Association (EUGA) convened an expert group to address the surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) using implantable devices. Midurethral synthetic slings (MUS) remain the gold standard, demonstrating high efficacy and an acceptable safety profile. The choice of surgical approach should be tailored to individual patient needs and risk factors. Retropubic MUS may offer slightly higher efficacy but carry specific risks, while transobturator slings are associated with a higher incidence of chronic pelvic and groin pain. Single-incision mini-slings (SI

Incorporating Perineorrhaphy into the LeFort Colpocleisis: A Modified Surgical Approach.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Perineorrhaphy with levator myorrhaphy is considered a standard part of colpocleisis. Typically, this is done through a separate incision after colpocleisis is completed. We present a video to demonstrate a modified approach to LeFort colpocleisis incorporating perineorrhaphy into the procedure. METHODS: A rectangular piece of anterior vaginal mucosa is dissected off the underlying fibromuscular tissue starting from 2-3 cm distal to the cervix and ending proximal to the urethrovesical junction. Similarly, a symmetrical posterior vaginal mucosa is dissected startin

Preoperative Analgesia in Midurethral Sling: A Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common condition among adult women in the USA, with its prevalence expected to rise owing to an aging population. Midurethral sling (MUS) procedures are a well-established surgical treatment for SUI. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols advocate for multimodal pain management strategies, including preoperative analgesia. However, limited data exist on the effectiveness of preoperative pain medications in MUS procedures. This study examines the impact of preoperative analgesia on postoperative pain scores and opioid

Investigating the Risk Indicators of Urinary Incontinence Among Young Nulligravid Women: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Urinary incontinence (UI) and associated lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are well documented in older, multiparous women, with established risk factors such as menopause, neurological disorders, and diabetes mellitus. However, emerging evidence indicates that young, nulligravid women without these traditional risk factors may also be affected. This study explores the prevalence, risk factors, and impact of UI and LUTS in this population. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted using an anonymous online questionnaire adapted from the International Consultation on Inconti
