We assayed prostatic specific antigen and prostatic acid phosphatase serum levels in 1,383 patients using a double antibody radioimmunoassay (RIA) 125I. Establishing the upper normal limit in 10 ng/ml for prostatic specific antigen and 2.5 ng/ml for prostatic acid phosphatase, the false positive results were only 1.9 and 5.1% in men with nonprostatic benign or malignant pathology and 0 and 2.2% in women, respectively. Ten patients with prostatitis were administered with Enoxacin (ENX), and the changes in its concentration in the seminal fluid were studied. For acute prostatitis patients, 600 mg/day of ENX was administered for 5 to 7 days, and for chronic prostatitis patients, 400 to 600 mg/day was administered for 7 to 17 days. Seminal fluid was obtained in the morning of examination and frozen until measurement. ENX was measured by the agar well method using E. coli. Magnetic resonance imaging was utilized in 18 patients with prostatic cancer and compared with the findings in normal volunteers (Pontes et al., 1985), benign prostatic hyperplasia (Hricak et al., 1983), acute prostatitis (Walsh and Jewett, 1980) and chronic prostatitis (ACS, 1986). We measured the NAG level in patients with urinary tract and seminal tract diseases and evaluated its clinical significance. A suggested relationship between stress stimuli--a reduced prostatic blood flow--and non-acute prostatitis, was investigated. Blood flows in the major genital organs of male Sprague-Dawley rats were measured after they had been subjected to standardized experimental short-term and protracted (10 days) stress stimuli. The author reports a case of rare malformation affecting all of the elements derived from the Wolffian duct, the embryology of which is briefly reviewed. The clinical picture, as in the majority of previously published cases, was initially suggestive of acute prostatitis, but clinical, radiological and ultrasonographic examination revealed the malformation. The treatment is surgical and most authors prefer an intra-peritoneal transvesical approach.

NAG was measured before and after treatment and compared in 11 acute prostatitis patients, 13 chronic prostatitis patients and 10 healthy volunteers. Cefoperazone (CPZ) was intravenously administered to rabbits and the concentration of CPZ in the accessory male genitals was determined. The epididymis, prostate and testicles had a high enough concentration of CPZ to kill various kinds of bacteria. Eosinophiluria is considered a useful marker of drug-induced acute interstitial nephritis.
