Toward a Unified Multidimensional HIV Cure: Integrating Virologic, Clinical, and Immunologic Perspectives.

Despite major advances in antiretroviral therapy (ART), a definitive cure for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains elusive. This review aims to propose a unified, multidimensional framework for HIV cure that integrates virologic, immunologic, and clinical perspectives to guide future research and therapeutic strategies. A structured narrative review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar to identify relevant literature on HIV cure research. Articles published primarily between 2008 and 2026 were screened based on relevance, scientific rigor, and contributi

Association of the monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio with HIV viral load and anemia in HIV-positive patients: a retrospective cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: HIV is a chronic viral infection characterized by persistent immune activation and various clinical complications, including anemia, which has been associated with accelerated progression to AIDS. The monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) is an emerging complete blood count (CBC)-derived inflammatory biomarker, but its relevance to HIV viral burden and HIV-associated anemia remains insufficiently explored. This study evaluated the associations of MLR with HIV viral load and anemia among HIV-positive patients in Saudi Arabia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Demographics, clinical, and laborato

Awareness, knowledge, and accepting attitudes toward people living with HIV in Egypt: a secondary analysis of a nationally representative sample.

BACKGROUND: Although human immunodeificency virus (HIV) prevalence in Egypt remains low, the number of people living with HIV (PLHIV) has increased in recent years, highlighting the need for nationally representative evidence on HIV awareness, knowledge, and accepting attitudes toward this poulation. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of the 2015 Egypt Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) to assess HIV awareness, knowledge, attitudes, and their sociodemographic and media-related correlates. Data from 16,671 respondents aged 15-59 years were analyzed. Analyses were weighted for national

Ambulatory and Unattended, Automated Office Blood Pressure in People With and Without HIV in Tanzania: A Cohort Study of Repeatability and Regression to the Mean.

Sub-Saharan Africa (sSA) bears a high burden of hypertension and HIV, yet blood pressure measurement often relies on single-day, conventional office readings, prone to measurement error. We assessed the short-term repeatability of unattended, automated office BP (uAOBP) and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), and whether reproducibility differs by HIV status in Tanzania. We analyzed data from the Mwanza HIV&CVD cohort study, using measurements from enrollment and 1-month later. Bland-Altman plots visualized mean differences and limits of agreement. Reproducibility of hypertension clas

Rethinking Postmigration HIV Vulnerability Through Migrant Networks and Whiteness: Race-Conscious Conversations With Newly Arrived Asian-Born Gay Migrants in Australia.

Migrants do not only acquire HIV in their home countries; a significant proportion acquire HIV postmigration. Newly arrived Asian-born gay migrants in Australia have been identified as having low HIV risk but still being vulnerable to HIV. In this paper, we qualitatively examine their postmigration HIV vulnerability embedded within migrant networks, drawing from race-conscious conversations with 11 newly arrived Asian-born gay migrants in Queensland. The formation, composition and power dynamic in their migrant networks reveal the centrality of Whiteness, as a dominant cultural capital rooted

Evaluating mental health integration in PrEP programs to reduce HIV incidence among US gay and bisexual men: a network modeling study.

BACKGROUND: Despite advances in HIV prevention, achieving elimination in the United States (US) remains challenging, particularly among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). Psychosocial barriers, including stigma and mental health challenges, influence sexual behaviors and hinder engagement in HIV prevention and care, suggesting that integrated interventions may improve HIV-related service uptake and reduce HIV incidence. METHODS: We adapted a stochastic network model simulating HIV transmission dynamics in a southeastern US metro to include individual-level sexual stig

Digital health innovation in HIV prevention and sexual health promotion: current applications and future prospects of mobile health and telehealth.

Digital health is now a delivery strategy for HIV prevention and sexual health promotion, not simply a channel for health education. Mobile messaging, web-based testing, HIV self-testing (HIVST) support, mobile applications, social media recruitment, telehealth, tele-pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and chatbot-assisted workflows can reduce barriers related to stigma, distance, clinic capacity, and confidentiality. These tools also create an opportunity for primary HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention before high-risk patterns are established, using positive, age-appropriate

Long-acting HIV treatment and prevention: a bibliometric analysis and science mapping.

Long-acting antiretroviral therapy and long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) have rapidly become prominent areas of HIV research. To our knowledge, as of June 30, 2026, no previous bibliometric study had jointly mapped the long-acting HIV treatment and prevention literatures within a single Scopus-based science-mapping framework. We conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of English-language research articles and reviews indexed in Scopus, with no restriction on publication year. A total of 1573 publications met the inclusion criteria. Publication output, citation patterns, colla

Association between tuberculosis, HIV infection, and diabetes mellitus: should we integrate screening and care? A systematic review.

Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS are among the leading infectious diseases worldwide, while diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major chronic endocrine and metabolic disorder. Together, these conditions contribute substantially to the global burden of disease and mortality and are increasingly recognized as interconnected comorbidities. The combination of these three diseases can worsen patients' health conditions, increase mortality risk, and complicate treatment, which is why this study aims to summarize the relationship between HIV, TB, and DM. To achieve this, a systematic literature search was cond

Use of HIV Phylogenetic Analysis in Public Health in Victoria, Australia: Regulatory Considerations.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) phylogenetic analysis has been introduced in a select number of jurisdictions globally for the purposes of HIV public health surveillance. Using this epidemiological tool in this way can enhance public health efforts aimed at managing HIV transmission. This application, however, presents many legal and ethical concerns that may counter such efforts, particularly in regulatory environments where HIV transmission can be subject to criminal prosecution. This article uses Victoria, Australia, as a case study and analyses the current regulatory frameworks relevant

From social stigma to physical health: mediation effect of internalized stigma and mental health among people with HIV in rural China.

People with HIV (PWH) in rural China continue to experience multiple forms of stigma that threaten their overall wellbeing. This study explored how internalized stigma and mental health distress mediate the relationship between social stigma and physical health using baseline data from 800 PWH (42% women; mean age 54.8 years) from the Rise-Up Project in Guangxi, China. Social stigma was modeled as a latent construct composed of perceived and anticipated stigma, while mental health distress was represented by depressive, anxiety symptoms and perceived stress. Physical health included general he
