PURPOSE: Our understanding of the etiology of Peyronie's disease (IPP) as well as the diagnostic and therapeutic approach is suboptimal. In order to improve this situation, we conducted a comparative retrospective analysis between the clinical symptoms of 50 patients with IPP and their histopathological results after radical plaque excision.

Peyronie's disease is characterized by the formation of a plaque of the tunica albuginea that leads to a mainly dorsally directed penile curvature and penile shortening due to scarification. The exact ethiopathology remains unclear. The natural history of the disease is variable, ranging from spontaneous remissions to chronic, and including severe penile curvature. Peyronie's disease is an aetiologically poorly understood disease of the tunica albuginea, characterized by pain during erection, development of fibrous plaques and penile curvature. Due to incomplete understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease, no causal treatment exists. In the literature, there are many conservative treatment proposals. This report describes the conservative and minimally invasive treatment options for Peyronie's disease.

The pathogenesis of Peyronie's disease (induratio penis plastica) is unclear, but immune phenomena appear likely to be involved. Two cases are presented where the condition developed in temporal association with a virological response to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in men with HIV infection. It is suggested that this may represent another manifestation of immune restoration disease.

Peyronie's disease (PD, induratio penis plastica) is uncommon. Its etiology is unknown and the incidence is stated to be 1%, although more recent data suggest that it is higher. The symptoms are penile deviation and painful erection in association with penile plaques. The diagnosis is performed by palpation of the penis. A 62-year-old patient was referred with the suspected diagnosis of Peyronie disease. The patient showed the clinical picture of a beginning malignant priapism with hematogenous metastases from an recurrent prostatic carcinoma. The penile metastases were misdiagnosed as Peyronie disease. Although both clinical pictures show some superficial similarity, Peyronie disease usually fulfills classical criteria which help to clearly distinguish it from neoplastic diseases.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the benefit of radiotherapy with fast electrons in induratio penis plastica (IPP).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Within 7 years we treated 58 patients with manifested clinically induratio penis plastica. We applied single dose of 3 Gy 2-3 times weekly and a maximum dose of 24-30 Gy. Induratio penis plastica (IPP) is a degenerative disease, which consists in a thickening of the albuginea tunica of cavernous corpora, especially on the dorsal aspect. In 25% of the cases a calcified deposit is present. This disease can determine a bending of the penis, usually upward, pain during erection and impotentia coeundi.
