Molecular characterization and phylogenetic analyses of virulent infectious bronchitis viruses isolated from chickens in Eastern Saudi Arabia.

Prostate cancer (PC) remains a deadly disease that requires urgent attention. It's the second most frequent cancer type that affects men globally, with over 1.4 million cases and 358,989 deaths recorded so far. Despite the several available treatment options ranging from surgery (prostatectomy) to chemo- and radiation therapy for PC patients, associated side effects such as risk of excessive bleeding after treatment, erectile dysfunction, risk of infertility, and incontinence, among others, necessitate the need for a safer and highly effective anti-prostate cancer medication, especially from n

Scrotal Abscess, an Unusual Manifestation of Crohn's Disease.

Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the alimentary tract, usually involving the ileum and proximal colon, which is sometimes associated with extra intestinal manifestations. Urologic complications of CD are rarely reported in literature. CD-related complications involving the urinary tract include infections and urolithiasis as the most common manifestations. Rare more serious occurrences associated with penetrating type disease include ureteral obstruction and enterovesical fistulization. Here, a rare case of CD complicated with a recto-scrotal fistula and the scrotal a

Pyoderma Gangrenosum in the Urologist Clinic.

Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare non-infectious skin disorder. It is often associated with systemic diseases, like the inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatological disease and (hematological) malignancy. The diagnosis is affirmed through a process of elimination and is principally based on clinical presentation and course. We present a 59-year-old male with T-cell large granular lymphocyte leukemia and pyoderma gangrenosum of penis and scrotum. Finally the patient was successfully treated with systemic prednisolone.

THE ACUTE SCROTUM IN CHILDREN.

The acute scrotum syndrome is a medical-surgical emergency and the recognition of this condition by both healthcare professionals and the general population may result into the patients' coming in earlier for medical examination and into the preservation of the gonad in case of torsion. The purpose of this retrospective analytical research is to point out specific epidemiological aspects in pediatric patients suffering from acute scrotum, and to review the existing diagnosis and treatment options. The study included 208 patients, of whom 16 with vanishing testis and 192 with acute scrotum (tor

Factitious Disorder Presenting with Attempted Simulation of Fournier's Gangrene.

Fournier's gangrene is a severe polymicrobial necrotizing fasciitis of the perineal, genital, or perianal regions. The classic presentation is severe pain and swelling with systemic signs. Crepitus and cutaneous necrosis are often seen. Characteristic CT findings include subcutaneous gas and inflammatory stranding. Unless treated aggressively, patients can rapidly become septic and die. Factitious Disorder is the falsification of one's own of medical or psychological signs and symptoms. Many deceptive methods have been described, from falsely reporting physical or psychological symptoms, to ma

Pyogenic Arthritis, Pyoderma Gangrenosum, Acne, Suppurative Hidradenitis (PA-PASH) Syndrome: An Atypical Presentation of a Rare Syndrome.

BACKGROUND Pyogenic arthritis, pyoderma gangrenosum (PG), acne, and suppurative hidradenitis (PA-PASH) syndrome has been linked to an auto-inflammatory pathway. We report a case that is an atypical presentation of a rare syndrome, which supports literature suggesting that different phenotypes of PG-related syndromes may be a variation of the same pathogenic spectrum. Interestingly, our patient displayed a positive proteinase-3 antibody (PR-3). The clinical relevance of this is unclear. In recent literature, antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies (ANCA) positivity has been reported in variou

[Multiple epidermolytic acanthomas of the genitalia].

BACKGROUND: Epidermolytic hyperkeratosis presents a particular histological image common to several clinical pictures, including that of keratinopathic ichthyoses. It may also occur fortuitously in various tumoral and inflammatory lesions. It is the elementary histopathological lesion of epidermolytic acanthoma, which may either be single or multiple, and when it occurs in the genital area, is known as epidermolytic hyperkeratosis of the genitalia or multiple epidermolytic acanthoma of the genitalia. Herein, we report two characteristic cases of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis of the genitalia.

Primary cutaneous actinomycosis of scrotal skin: A rare entity often misdiagnosed.

Lichen sclerosus (LS) is a rare disease affecting the skin and the mucous membrane, and it is chronic inflammatory in nature. It occurs in both males and females, but mainly affects females in the fifth or sixth decade of life. It mainly involves the genital and perianal areas but can affect any part of the body and the involvement of the oral mucosa is exceptionally rare, but sometimes it affects only the oral mucosa. It requires differentiating from other lesions of the oral cavity which looks similar to this lesion. In considering the rarity of the reported cases, the present article report

Solid tumors of the peritoneum, omentum, and mesentery in children: radiologic-pathologic correlation: from the radiologic pathology archives.

Intraperitoneal solid tumors are far less common in children than in adults, and the histologic spectrum of neoplasms of the peritoneum and its specialized folds in young patients differs from that in older patients. Localized masses may be caused by inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, Castleman disease, mesenteric fibromatosis, or other mesenchymal masses. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is a mesenchymal tumor of borderline biologic potential that appears as a solitary circumscribed mass, possibly with central calcification. Castleman disease is an idiopathic lymphoproliferative disorder t

The investigation based on a retrospective analysis of the treatment results of Fournier's gangrene (FG) in 27 patients aged from 34 till 82 years old. There were 27 patients. Diseases of colorectal zone were the nosological reasons of FG in 15 patients. Diseases of urogenital tract had 10 patients with FG. The development of FG was determined by closed trauma (1 patient) and a gunshot wound of the perineum and the scrotum in one patient. The slowly progressive (limited) forms of the disease were noted in 15 patients, although the rapid progressive (extensive) forms were in 12 patients. All the

MR Imaging of the Penis and Scrotum.

Traditionally, due to its low cost, ready availability, and proved diagnostic accuracy, ultrasonography (US) has been the primary imaging modality for the evaluation of scrotal and, to a lesser extent, penile disease. However, US is limited by its relatively small useful field of view, operator dependence, and inability to provide much information on tissue characterization. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, with its excellent soft-tissue contrast and good spatial resolution, is increasingly being used as both a problem-solving tool in patients who have already undergone US and as a primary mod

Idiopathic scrotal calcinosis: the incorrect terminology of scrotal calcinosis.

AIM: Scrotal calcinosis is a rare and benign condition characterized by multiple calcific deposits occurring in scrotum and formed as nodules and lumps within scrotal skin with any systemic metabolic disorder. The so-called idiopathic scrotal calcinosis does not appear to be idiopathic, but rather a process of dystrophic calcification of epidermal cysts. Histological examination shows calcium deposites with in the dermis that may be surrounded with histiocytes and an inflammatory giant cell reaction. The aim of this paper was to detect dystrophic calcification of epidermal cysts and to take at

Psoriasis with extramammary paget disease in a male: a case report.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that is characterized by erythematous, sharply demarcated papules and plaques covered by scales. Extramammary Paget disease (EMPD) is a uncommon neoplastic condition of apocrine gland-bearing skin and its occurrence in combination with psoriasis is very rare. We report an interesting case of a 61-year-old male with extensive psoriasis presented with penoscrotal EMPD, which was confirmed by histopathological stain.

Urological Manifestations of Henoch-Schonlein Purpura: A Review.

Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) is an immune-mediated systemic vasculitis generally found in children. The standard manifestations of HSP are palpable purpura, arthritis, abdominal pain, and renal complications. Although less common, there are significant urological manifestations associated with HSP. The primary objective of this review is to encourage better understanding and management of HSP by emphasizing the common and rare manifestations of HSP, how they are diagnosed, and the latest treatment options for mild to severe complications. Medline searches of HSP and its urological manifestat

Testicular ischemia-reperfusion may alter micro-rheological parameters in laboratory rats.

Ischemia-reperfusion-caused hemorheological alterations have been widely studied but the effect of testicular ischemia-reperfusion has not so far. In this study 14 Sprague-Dawley rats were involved. In the ischemia-reperfusion group under general anaesthesia the left testis was explored by opening the scrotum then the deferent duct and vasculature were clamped for 30 minutes. Testicular microcirculation was monitored by laser Doppler flowmetry. The right testis was untouched. In the control group: only anaesthesia was induced. Blood sampling occurred before and after ischemia, at the 60th minu

Development and validation of an animal model of prostate inflammation-induced chronic pelvic pain: evaluating from inflammation of the prostate to pain behavioral modifications.

BACKGROUND: Chronic prostatitis/Chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is the most common type of prostatitis. Due to the lack of a suitable animal model partly, the pathogenesis for this condition is obscure. In the current study we developed and validated an animal model for nonbacterial prostatitis and prostate inflammation-induced chronic pelvic pain in rats with the use of intraprostatic injection of λ-carrageenan. METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 250-350 g were used for the experiments. After intraprostatic injection of 3% λ-carrageenan, at different time points(after 24 h, 7

Management of rare, low anal anterior fistula exception to Goodsall's rule with Kṣārasūtra.

Anal fistula (bhagandara) is a chronic inflammatory condition, a tubular structure opening in the ano-rectal canal at one end and surface of perineum/peri-anal skin on the other end. Typically, fistula has two openings, one internal and other external associated with chronic on/off pus discharge on/off pain, pruritis and sometimes passing of stool from external opening. This affects predominantly male patients due to various etiologies viz., repeated peri-anal infections, Crohn's disease, HIV infection, etc., Complex and atypical variety is encountered in very few patients, which require speci
