Diagnosis-to-surgery lead time and future-health worry in women with primary breast cancer: a longitudinal Swedish registry-based cohort study.

PURPOSE: The interval between breast cancer diagnosis and surgery is psychologically demanding, and meeting the Swedish standardised care pathway target has remained challenging. We examined whether diagnosis-to-surgery lead time is associated with patient-reported psychological outcomes. METHODS: We conducted a longitudinal cohort study using Swedish National Quality Register for Breast Cancer data (2020-2024). The cohort comprised 2,906 women with primary invasive breast cancer undergoing surgery, with patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) data at baseline (n = 2,906), 6 months (n = 2,638

Associations of surgical breast cancer treatment at regional or community hospitals with patient-reported experience measures.

PURPOSE: High-volume hospitals deliver improved outcomes for patients with breast cancer, supporting referrals for breast cancer surgical care to high-volume regional facilities. This retrospective cohort study investigated how multidisciplinary cancer care trajectories and patient care experiences varied by surgical facility classification (regional vs. community as a proxy for high- vs. low-volume) and whether effects differed by rural-residence. METHODS: We used Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results-Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (SEER-CAHPS) data for Medicar

Examining Breast Cancer Patients' Use of Emotional Expressions in Clinic Discussions of Sexual Health: A Mixed-Methods Study.

OBJECTIVE: Sexual concerns are reported by many women with breast cancer (BC) and are often highly emotionally distressing. However, little is known about how BC patients express negative emotions during sexual health discussions. We examined emotional expressions used by BC patients during clinical discussions of sexual health, including whether expressions were explicit versus implicit, and identified whether use of such expressions was associated with demographic/clinical factors, sexual health topics and length of discussion, level of sexual concerns, or psychological distress. METHODS: U

When words reveal risk: a mixed-method study on autobiographical narratives of breast biopsy results disclosure as early markers of psychological distress.

Background: Autobiographical memory theory suggests that how stressful events are encoded and recalled, particularly in terms of centrality to identity, emotional intensity, and retrieval frequency, can influence mental health. In breast cancer care, the disclosure of biopsy results may represent a psychologically impactful moment, regardless of diagnosis type. Objectives: This mixed-method study aimed to determine whether and how narrative features of breast biopsy result disclosure, analysed by both content (what was said) and form (how it was said), are associated with psychological distress

Antibody-drug conjugates and tumor immunity in breast cancer.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) combine antigen-directed delivery with cytotoxic or immunostimulatory payloads. Their antitumor activity can involve direct tumor-cell killing, but the extent to which conventional ADCs remodel human breast-cancer immunity remains incompletely defined. This review critically separates established cytotoxic mechanisms from immune-mediated effects and incorporates emerging STING agonist ADCs, neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) trafficking, and quantitative antigen measurement. A focused narrative synthesis of mechanistic, translational, and clinical literature was perfor

Profiling protein post-translational modifications in plasma-derived extracellular vesicles as fingerprints for breast cancer subtypes.

BACKGROUND: Addressing tumor heterogeneity in breast cancer research is crucial, given the distinct subtypes like triple-negative, luminal A/B, and HER2, requiring precise differentiation for effective treatment. This study introduces a non-invasive method by analyzing post-translationally modified proteins in plasma extracellular vesicles, which play a role in immune regulation and intercellular communication. Examining modifications like phosphorylation, acetylation and glycosylation in extracellular vesicles provides insights into breast cancer dynamics. One hundred and one plasma samples f

The intratumoral microbiome in breast cancer: an actionable component of the tumor immune microenvironment.

Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in women. The discovery of a breast tumor microbiota has deeply changed our understanding of the breast tumor microenvironment, identifying microorganisms as active players in tumor progression. Increasing evidence suggests that intratumoral bacteria may influence multiple hallmarks of breast cancer, including chronic inflammation, immune modulation, metabolic reprogramming, epithelial plasticity, metastatic dissemination, and therapeutic response. Distinct microbial communities have been associated with specific breast c

Reprogramming tumor-associated macrophages in breast cancer: from myeloid plasticity and tumor-promoting programs to CAR-macrophage therapy.

Breast cancer develops within spatially organized, multicellular microenvironments in which particular tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) states can influence immune access and stromal remodeling. Conventional M1/M2 classification and total macrophage density fail to capture the developmental, transcriptional, metabolic, and spatial heterogeneity that determines TAM function. This macrophage-focused review examines breast cancer within its multicellular microenvironment, integrating lineage-tracing, single-cell, spatial, mechanistic, and clinical evidence while distinguishing breast-specific fi

Dietary supplementation with methionine and/or turmeric oil enhances carcass cuts, economics, meat quality, and antioxidant status in broilers: insights into DNA methyltransferase transcripts.

Dietary methionine (Met) and turmeric oil (TO) may influence downstream gene transcription via DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs), which are fundamentally associated with DNA methylation pathways. This study evaluated their individual and interactive effects on carcass traits, meat quality, antioxidant status, gene expression, and economic outcomes in broiler chickens. Two hundred one-day-old male broilers were assigned to four dietary treatments, with five replicate pens of 10 birds each, for 35 days: control (Con),1.0 g DL-methionine/kg (Met), 200 mg turmeric oil/kg (TO), or their combination (M

Total and beverage-specific alcohol use at mid-life and all-cause and cause-specific mortality: a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: While detrimental health impacts of excessive alcohol use are well-established, potential effects of low-to-moderate drinking remain controversial. We examined the associations between total and beverage-specific alcohol intake and mortality, including cardiovascular disease (CVD), cancer (e.g., 20 site-specific cancers), and other mortality. METHODS: We included 340,924 participants from UK Biobank (2006-2022). Alcohol use was categorized as: never or occasional alcohol consumption (≤ 20 g/week), low consumption (> 20 g/week to ≤ 20 g/d for men, > 20 g/week to ≤ 10 g/d for women)

From Variant Detection to Clinical Actionability: Expanding the Clinical Perspective on Targeted NGS Profiling in Breast Cancer.

Plain Language SummaryBreast cancer is not a single disease. Each tumour carries its own set of genetic changes, and reading these changes can help doctors choose the most suitable treatment. A recent study from Ukraine used a modern genetic test to examine tumours from breast cancer patients - one of the first efforts of its kind in that country. It found that certain gene changes were common, especially one that tends to appear in slower-growing, more treatable tumours. In our letter responding to that study, we make one main point: finding a gene change is only the first step. What matters

Effectiveness of cardiac resynchronization therapy in cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Advances in cancer treatment have increased the number of survivors, making cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction (CTRCD) an important concern. While cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is established for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and conduction disorders, its role in CTRCD remains unclear. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the benefit of CRT in patients with CTRCD. METHODS: We performed a literature search of studies showing CRT outcomes in the specific group of CTRCD patients. The outcomes of interest were left ventricular ejection fraction (LV
