BACKGROUND: Supracervical hysterectomy is seldom performed and there are few reports of tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) after supracervical hysterectomy.
CASE: The case of a 49-year-old woman with a right TOA is reported. This patient had received a supracervical hysterectomy 16 years earlier due to rupture of the uterus. We describe the case of a 42-year-old woman who was a follow-up case of incompletely treated pelvic inflammatory disease, and presented with menorrhagia and bilateral ovarian masses. Subtotal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed. Purulent material was obtained from the cystic masses, which grew Staphylococcus aureus. Recently a few articles have been published concerning the long-term follow-up of vaginoplasty of cloaca. However, no postoperative evaluation has been fully described and, in particular, the late complications are still unknown. We report a case of tuboovarian abscess after colonic vaginoplasty for high cloacal anomaly in a 13-year-old girl. She required a left salpingo-oophorectomy and postoperatively showed regular menstruation. Therefore we stress that tubo-ovarian abscess is one of the important late complications after colonic vaginoplasty for high cloacal anomaly.

Neurotropic interference therapy (NIT) was studied as monotherapy and in combination with iodine-bromide water in 50 patients with chronic nonspecific salpingoophoritis. NIT was found effective in the above disease as it improved clinical picture, reproductive function, psychoemotional condition of the patients. The addition of iodine-bromide water to NIT potentiates and prolongs neurotropic, endocrine, analgetic and anti-inflammatory effects of NIT.

A case of xanthogranulomatous salpingitis and oophoritis in a 47-year-old woman is presented. Xanthogranulomatous inflammation is an uncommon form of chronic inflammation that is destructive to affected organs; it is characterized by the presence of lipid-filled macrophages with admixed lymphocytes, plasma cells, and neutrophils. Only a few cases of xanthogranulomatous salpingitis and oophoritis have been reported to date. The case presented here is associated with Escherichia coli infection, endometriosis, and an intrauterine device.

97 females at reproductive age with chronic nonspecific salpingo-oophoritis (CNSO) were examined and treated. The results of the treatment (vaginal and external impact) demonstrate positive effects of various cryotherapeutic techniques on CNSO clinical course, on hormonal and immune unbalance, functional activity of the uterine tubes, regional hemodynamics, psychoemotional status. Thus, cryotherapy is an effective adjuvant in combined therapy of CNSO.

The effect of including transcutaneous low-intensity magnetic-laser radiation of blood in combined antiinflammatory therapy of salpingo-oophoritis was studied. Poultry species--chickens, ducks, geese--are becoming increasingly popular as pets. As such, requests for accurate diagnoses and treatment are being received by the veterinary community from the public. Unlike the food animal and production-oriented aspects of poultry medicine, success with these pet birds is contingent on preserving the human-pet bird bond, as defined by the individual client. This article presents some of this author's observations in diagnostic profiles on some selected disorders of backyard poultry.

OBJECTIVE: The significance of C-reactive protein (CRP) in assessing the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) was established and compared with body temperature (BT), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and serum leukocyte concentration (L).
METHOD: In 51 patients with PID, 20 (39%) of them with tubo-ovarial abscess (TOA), measurement of BT and laboratory investigations were carried out on admission and during treatment on days 3-4, 6-8 and 18-21. The changes in these values were compared with the changes in clinical condition.

Massotherapy in different regimens has been used in 30 patients in remission of chronic salpingo-oophoritis (CSO). The massage produced positive changes in blood coagulation, immune status, regional hemodynamics of the small pelvis, bioelectric activity of the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall and lumbosacral region. A strong anesthetic and antiinflammatory effect of intensive massage in 78%, recovered reproductive function in 33% of the patients allow to recommend intensive massage as possible monotherapy of patients in remission of CSO.

The studies of 116 females with chronic nonspecific salpingo-oophoritis demonstrate that combination of low-frequency magnetic field with iodine-bromine water effectively corrects immunological indices, i.e. improves T- and B-cell immunity, production of IgM and IgA, proportion of immunoregulatory subpopulations of T-lymphocytes.
